What they're saying about the Eagles
Sheil Kapadia, Philly.com
Before we get started on the Memorial Day links, thank you to all those who have given their lives to protect this country.
And also to all the service men and women who read MTC and have e-mailed over the years.
If you're looking for the usual Five Eagles numbers that matter feature, which usually runs on Monday, that will be posted Tuesday because of the holiday.
Here's a roundup of what the national media are saying about the Birds:
Dan Graziano of ESPN.com paints the best- and worst-case scenarios for the Eagles:
In the Eagles' nightmare scenario, though, the turnover problem doesn't get fixed, the downgrade from Peters to Bell at left tackle messes with the entire offensive line dynamic, Vick gets hurt again and someone like Mike Kafka or Nick Foles has to start a half-dozen games. In the nightmare scenario, 2011 turns out not to have been just one down year for Nnamdi Asomugha but rather the start of a decline. Maclin can't regain his 2010 form the way he's expected to now that he's fully healthy, and Jackson remains a deep downfield decoy who keeps the safeties back and limits Vick's offense to smaller chunks of yardage instead of backbreaking big plays.
Trent Cole is the latest Eagles player to be named to NFL Network's Top 100 list. Cole comes in at No. 57, ahead of Michael Vick (No. 70), DeSean Jackson (No. 71) and Nnamdi Asomugha (No. 79).
ESPN.com attempts to take a peek into the future with power rankings for how teams project in the year 2015. They've got the Eagles coming in at No. 7:
The Eagles do a great job of keeping their roster young and competitive by constantly turning it over, drafting well and making some smart free-agent decisions. Offensive skill players such as RB LeSean McCoy, their key wide receivers, a fairly young offensive line and a defensive line with a deep rotation of young players -- including a youthful group of linebackers -- will keep the roster elite. Questions must be answered down the line about the secondary.
Vick's promotional appearance at a Las Vegas area car dealership was met with a fair share of opposition, according to the Las Vegas Sun:
Commenters on Findlay Toyota’s Facebook page called Vick a “dog killer” and threatened to beat him up. Others posted that they planned to boycott the car dealership for sponsoring Vick for promotional and charity events, including a May 29 youth football clinic at the Henderson International School. In response, the dealership began deleting comments and ultimately shut down the page Friday night.
Daniel Jeremiah of NFL.com runs through the league's top duos, including Jason Babin and Trent Cole:
If you love an attacking brand of football, there is nothing prettier than watching these two guys crouch down in their four-point stances and explode off the line of scrimmage. They are both polished pass rushers and pursue the quarterback with a relentless passion. They combined for 29 sacks last season.
You can follow me on Twitter or become a fan of Moving the Chains on Facebook.
With Fletcher Cox and Cullen Jenkins in the middle, and Vinny Curry as a sub DE, this has the potential of being the best Eagles D-Line since Reggie, Jerome, Clyde Simmons, and Mike Pitt. If Jerome hadn't died so young and tragically, that may have rivaled the Fearsome Foursome, Purple People Eaters, and Steel Curtain in terms of D-Line lore. topwonk
I also would like to thank all those who gave their lives to keep us safe.
By the way, what's wrong with the following phrase?
'Commenters... called Vick a “dog killer” and threatened to beat him up.'
These people should be memorialized, too... for utter stupidity. I'm not much of a Vick fan either, but this... SMH

You called a 42yr old QB but not Plaxico who scored a lot of TDs in the redzone last yr. Same players on offense. Our top receivers are 6ft and under. No Playoff wins in 3years. Please Call Plaxico before the Giants do!! He's 6'5 and could really help get those short yards.

Eagles fan. Sure. It's his war and he should have been in on the front lines. Let's see the children of all those senators and congressmen and presidential aids on the front lines too. If they pass the law for war, it's their war. mario1239
Words cannot describe how awful combat really is. As a Nation we must honor our troops by not wasting their heroism! Warhound- mario - interesting thought. Would you really want George W. Bush leading the infantry on the battle field?
In ancient times, the leaders of a country would lead the army in battle at the front of the line. We should go back to those times and then see how many wars they want to fight. I am a world war II vet, fighting the most powerful and most evil nation in history. Now we fight third world countries who have no navy, no airforce and 35 year old weapons. mario1239
They didn't mention LeSean being abducted by aliens in their 'nightmare scenario'. techdiver
Comment removed.- and yet, the franchise is the Gold Standard of the NFL and the fans are the biggest bunch of smack talkers ever assembled.
go figure! ekw555 - No sh*t, sherlock.

After 18.5 sacks, Babin should be there too. baxter81
snydz...its a countdown...they didnt get to the lower ranked players yet. psualum
Snydz, NFL Net is still rattling them off IIRC (keep the suspense going). Shady should be in the top 20 fo sho. JBirks
What about LeSean McCoy in the NFL Network's Top 100? And Jason Peters? Snydz
I would like to thank all of my fallen brothers and sisters for the sacrifice they have made. I also would like to that the families of the fallen because they live 'without' everyday. Tron_from_Philly
Well said, mccloudmj.Football is just a game, God bless all of our brave troops who keep us free and safe where it truly matters, the game of life. antmry312
This military family thanks you for remembering the military men and women who face unique challenges that the casual observer never sees. When you see a man or woman in uniform eating at a restaurant, why not go up and offer a handshake and word of encouragement, and maybe find the waitress and pay for his meal. God bless and protect all our troops, and thanks for keeping us free. mccloudmj
