What Andy Said, What Andy Meant

POSTED: Monday, December 3, 2012, 7:02 PM

Did you speak to Michael (Vick) about the decision to make Nick Foles the starter for the rest of the season?

What Andy said: ``I did. He was very positive about it. He’s on board.’’

What Andy meant: ``I did. He asked me if he still needs to bother coming to practice.’’

With Jim Washburn gone, will you still use the Wide-9?

What Andy said: ``It won’t be as prominent.’’

What Andy meant: ``I’m going to use it slightly less than I use the Wishbone.’’

Whose decision was it to make Foles the starting quarterback for the rest of the season?

What Andy said: ``This was my decision. The one great thing about the Philadelphia Eagles organization is they’ve allowed me to make the decisions.’’

What Andy meant: ``His initials are J.L.’’

Have you had any discussions with Jeff Lurie about your future?

What Andy said: ``I haven’t even gone there. I’m sure we’ll talk about it at some point. But we’re trying to win football games right now.’’

What Andy meant: ``Jeff asked me how I’d feel about spending the final year of my contract working in the NovaCare cafeteria. I told him I’d get back to him.’’

What was Jim Washburn’s reaction last week when you released Jason Babin?

What Andy said: ``What he told me was he was fine with it.’’

What Andy meant: ``The SOB tried to run me down with his motorcycle.’’

Why did you decide to fire Washburn now?

What Andy said: ``It wasn’t all about this game. That’s not what it was. It was just something I had been pondering and working through. I just thought it was the right time now.’’

What Andy meant: ``Did you miss the part about him trying to run me down with his motorcycle?’’

In the span of the last month-and-a-half, you fired your defensive coordinator, Juan Castillo, you released your best pass-rusher, and now, you’ve just fired your defensive line coach. How difficult is it for a franchise to get through that?

What Andy said: ``It’s not how you draw it up. I think Juan is great person and fine football coach. Juan will have long career in NFL, and rightly so.’’

What Andy meant: ``Hasn’t been my finest moment, has it?’’

I really think these moves indicate Reid is coming back next year. I think these were all points on his plan to fix the mess and he is doing the right things now towards the future.

If Andy comes back, the Eagles should expect a fan rebellion. That would be the worst Public Relations move I have seen in my lengthy life.

The only people that have fired Andy have been the fans and the media. The only person with his name on the checks that can fire Andy, Jeff Lurie, hasn't said a peep. I wouldn't get worked up over intense speculation. Jeff Lurie is the only person that can fire Andy and as far as we know for sure, is that Andy is still under contract one more year. The fans have never run the Philadelphia Eagles and it won't start today. I happen to agree with you Dan, I think Andy is doing his job because he hasn't been fired, he's still in control and he is working like he is coming back. If you think the fans or the media can fire Andy you must be on bath salts. Just wait until Lurie speaks to the media.

Andy Reid is not as much to blame as the fans and the media dump on him, but he won't be back because the organization cannot put up with the fan reaction. The injuries have been the biggest problem for the team and no Coach can overcome the loss of so many key players. It will take 3 year for the Eagles to rebuild.

Andy will COACH his last game on 12/30/2012. Andy however, will keep his job as Executive VP of football ops. Lurie and VP Reid will introduce John (CHUCKIE)GRUDEN as the new Eagles Coach on New Year's Eve. Ed Rendell will tip this off on Eagles Post-Game Live after the Final-Game Loss when he shows up wearing a Chuclie-Mask.

It sure does seem like the Eagles are setting us up for a return of Reid. Laurie did say that injures could have an effect on his dicision in his press conference last year and you have that. WHy would anyone go though all of this firing and changing for the next guy. Oh well if he gets rid of Morningwig and brings in people that are proven it might not be that bad unless we can get Gruden or one of the other established Super Bowl winning coaches. DOn't wnat to start with a new college coach.

Reid will not be back, he couldn't get a defensive coordinator the last 2 years, how will he get a DEE coordinator with a 1 year contract. You would have to be unemployed with no prospects to accept a 1 year gig.

You're overestimating the worth of the fans. They could play in a half full stadium and still make money from TV. (See Miami)
Reid is coming back. Why else would he be making all these changes? What's the point if he's gone? You think Brasher signed on for a 4 week gig?

Jeffie isn't going to give him 6 mil. for doing nothing. He'll be with the organization in some capacity or he'll be coaching another team for more money and get Jeff off the hook.
