Vick: Eagles give me best chance to win title

Michael Vick thinks staying in Philadelphia gives him the best chance to successfully carry out the second phase of his career in the NFL.

He confirmed as much during an interview with John Clark of NBC10 that aired Sunday night.

"Absolutely, absolutely," Vick said, when asked if Philadelphia was the best place for him to play football. "I know we're only going to get better as a team. I would love to stay here, love to be here, and I think this team gives me the best chance of winning a Super Bowl."

But that wasn't always the case. Vick said two years ago, the Eagles were not at the top of his list of teams. As has been reported multiple times, Vick's camp wanted a one-year deal after he got out of jail, but the Eagles would only agree to sign him to a two-year deal.

"I didn't want to come here to be honest with you," Vick said. "I knew I was going to be behind Donovan and Kevin, and I wanted to play. I just didn't see myself playing a heavy role in the offense.

"After awhile, I said to myself, you know what, it's just a blessing to have a team want me right now. Got the opportunity, and last year, everybody kind of grew on me."

The Eagles have a decision to make this offseason. If they want to bring Vick back, which by all indications they do, they can either sign him to a long-term extension or hit him with the franchise tag (although those options could change, depending on what happens with the CBA).

Clark asked Vick if he'd be OK with getting the franchise tag. While the designation provides a huge one-year salary, it does not provide longer-term security as Vick would be in the exact same position after next season.

"Absolutely, absolutely. No problem," Vick said. "I think about my situation two years ago, and to me, it's about securing my future financially, but I was in a position where I didn'thave anything at one point after having everything. So now it's all just a blessing, so whatever it is, whether it's a franchise tag or long-term deal, or however my agent and the Philadelphia Eagles, or whatever team may be, work it out, I'm going to be happy. But hopefully it's here."

Over the weekend, analyst Charley Casserly said on CBS that if Vick and the Eagles can work out a long-term extension once the CBA is in place, it would likely be around $12M-$14M per season.

Vick said he's looking forward to improving in the Eagles' offense. Clark asked him what percentage of his potential he played at in Atlanta, what percentage he played at last season and what percentage he expects to play at next season.

"65 percent in Atlanta, 85 percent here this year, going for 95 to 100 next year," Vick said. "I think next year will definitely be the year. That's the only thing I can think about now. It's funny because two years ago, I never envisioned myself being in this position. Four days after the playoff game, I'm thinking about next year."

He added that he's already talked to Andy Reid about what he needs to improve on this offseason.

"I think I've got the blueprint on what to do," Vick said. "I sat down and talked with Andy yesterday. He had a whole list of things that he thought I needed to do. It's good because without that I wouldn't see it or I wouldn't know, so that gives me guidance, areas to work on."

Vick admitted that he tried too often to make a big play last season. He said he needs to make the plays he knows he can make and not always think so big. But he's optimistic about fixing those problems.

"Sky's the limit for me," Vick said. "I totally believe in myself and my abilities, and I'm thankful for what I have. But I know there's so much more that I can accomplish. There's so much more that I can do to help this football team accomplish that one common goal. And that's the responsibility that I'm going to take on. It's my job as the quarterback, as the leader, to get the other guys to follow. And that's what I'm going to focus on this year - making my teammates better, helping them step their game up."

I think he's right. But there's a big if. If he and the coaches will steer away from the 99% Vick offense, Mike throwing, Mike scrambling, Mike running the draw on 3rd and 1. It will be a very short career, less than one season, if they continue that. He has to throw the ball away sometimes, and they have to get a short yardage running game that has nothing to do with him.

Yeah! wiff is right! I'm sick of hearing about QBs with potential! I mean look at the body of work in KK's stellar career and that will surely put the argument to rest. That Vick has some nerve thinking he will be the starting QB when we have old "one win" Kolb on our side. To h@ll with all that excitement, talent and leadership. We want old "one win"! He has shown us what he can do...oh I just can't keep a straight face.

Reading this drible is a testament to adjust to the mentally fatigued. Vick got out of control on the last play of the game and it cost us a playoff spot. Remember that Jackson, MacLinn, Celek, Avant, et.al. are not going to forget this major diss when Mr. Ego tried to set himself up as the savior. Any one of the playmakers were looking at him like a dummy and Reid better address that issue. I would bet he lost the team on that move.

Vick plays everyone for a fool with setting up this OMG how can his body take such abuse. Favre played for twenty years getting hammered and he never missed a start. What a bunch of nonsense. Lift weights You Fool. All the other guys in the can lift and build some muscle mass but not this fool.

The vick we all saw the 2nd half of the season is the real vick. His legs got slower and each year he will get slower. He can't make reads or adjust or check downs. Its 50/50 odds he will be back in jail or involved in a shooting even before pre-season. Eagles will franchise him for a one year trial and work out a contract for Kolb.

    @JIM IAQUINTO

I bet Vick has more muscle mass in his pinky than you do in your flabby, beer guzzling excuse for a human body.

@wolf4, what in the world are you talking about? Vicks passing yrds and rating proved him not to be a run first QB. Look at QBs like Farve, Young, Elway etc. they would be considered in the same category athletic running QB's with dangerous arms and until they developed they performed much like Vick. When Vick develops, puts it all together (and he will) you will get the same performance as the afore mentioned QBs. Where ever Kolb lands outside of Philly why don't you JIM IAQUINTO and bill19666 pledge you allegiance with that team.

wtf? man, you guys are so fickle. this is what gives philly fans a bad name. we hate vick, oh now he's good we love vick, oh we lost a playoff game vick sucks.....grow a pair guys. make a decision and dtsnad by it instead of flip flopping around. i think vick is our best chance to win (if kolb is the other option, since he's clearly not the answer).

I'd send Vick to Clearwater next month, so that Jimmy Rollins can teach him how to slide. That will greatly reduce the risk of injury.

Calabrese10 is spot on. Vick is all about Vick, his comments and thoughts are always "me, me, me." McNabb was the same way only less so. I don't see an "I/me" QB winning any trophies. It isn't so much about talent, it's just being a team player. If the guy playing the key position isn't the ultimate team player, the team- any team- has a fatal flaw.

Vick would have a better chance if Reid was gone. Andy will get his QB hurt with his predictable pass 65% of the time offense.
Vick took way too many hits this year and Reid just keeps on throwing.
It's insanity. If they ran the ball 20 times vs the Pack with McCoy they would have won the game. Andy is not only the dumbest, easiest to beat coach in the playoffs, he's stubborn and arrogant to boot.
12 years and he can't manage the clock. Didn't Andy take a timeout on a national game after a challange on the goal line when the ball was spotted a half yard away from the end zone. On game days, especially in the playoffs, they should put Reid on the unable to perform list and ban him from the sideline.

To all the ignoramous commens about VICK being selfish the conversation is centered around VICK his potential contract and him being a free agent. How is he suppose to respond its a business actually its time he thought about himself. Statements such as ( 2 years ago I didnt invision myself in this position ) speaks volumes dosen't sound like someone holding the team hostage for cash to me!!!!!!!!

The usual haters woke up early. Now that McNabb is not here let's pound on another black QB, who btw, saved the Eagles season. What a bunch of morons. When KK goes to another team, please go with him.

Im not one of those who thinks a black QB cant win a Super Bowl. I think it Can happen and someday will happen , just not with Vick.
