DETROIT -- This was the Eagles offense everyone expected.
Of course, not many expected the 30-year-old Michael Vick to be the one leading the Young Guns.
But with starting quarterback Kevin Kolb out with a concussion, Vick stepped in and guided his team to a 35-32 victory Sunday as the Eagles held on for dear life and survived a late Lions push.
(A brief interruption: This might have been the Eagles defense everyone anticipated. The group nearly fumbled away the game despite a fourth quarter 18-point lead).
Vick, on the other hand, was impressive. The quarterback completed 21 of 34 passes for 284 yards and two touchdowns. He did not toss an interception. He also ran four times for 40 yards. Vick did all this while under constant pressure as the Eagles' leaky offensive line struggled against Detroit's front four and their blitzers.
Vick had help, though, most notably from running back LeSean McCoy. The second-year player eclipsed the 100-yard rushing mark for the first time in his career and became the first Eagles players to rush for three scores since Charlie Garner accomplished the feat in 1995.
Vick spread the ball around connecting with eight different receivers. DeSean Jackson led the team with four catches for 135 yards. He also scored a 45-yard touchdown in the first quarter. Jeremy Maclin had three catches for 26 yards, including a 9-yard touchdown right before the half that gave the Eagles a 21-17 lead.
Kolb is expected to return to practice next week. He and linebacker Stewart Bradley, who was also held out with a concussion, were cleared by the Eagles' medical staff, a team spokesman said Sunday.
Eagles coach Andy Reid has said Kolb is his No. 1 quarterback. If Kolb can go next week against Jacksonville it will be interesting to see how patient Reid will be with his young quarterback, who struggled against the Packers last week.
- these guys coasted after the 4 th down stop.they are not as good as they think they are-PLAY 60 FRIGGING MINUTES.Very dissapointing finish, great they had win,but geez-hands team fumbles away onside with 90 seconds to go.leadership is lacking on that team, number 20 ,calling number 20 friar75
It is insane to think that Andy Reid is going to start Kevin Kolb next week. Mike Vick gives the Eagles a fighting chance. reveugene
What??? No bigoted comments posted yet? Is this Philly.com with all of its bigot posters? CommonSense in Philly
BABYARM is this era's version of Koy Detmer? Why not? BooDuhBud
If Kolb starts next week, the way the O-line is playing, we lose. Vick gives us a chance to win, hopefully Fat Andy will be able to put down the pork rinds for a minute and realize this too! Spuzzz
Vick gives us the best chance to go 10-6 and lose in the playoffs every year. I've already seen that movie. What can Kolb do? dragoon6- I say we play max protect for Kolb. Keep everyone in protection except DeSean Jackson. He'll get open eventually. jamesiri
Kolb is like a high school quarterback on a NFL team xNBD-BlackCharger94
Unbelievable. Does anyone remember this guy is a committed felon? Just because this guy can sling a football doesn't mean he should get a job with the NFL. If you or I committed a felony we wouldn't even be able to get a job at McDonalds let alone one making millions. Come on people do you forgive others that easily? Football is a game not life or death. Remember all the pitbulls when you think about this. badbadwifey- If Kolb can't play, how did he throw for 300+ yards 2 weeks in a row as a newbie last year, with one team being the Saints, the champs. C'mon. Give him a chance.

badbadwifey, you and I cannot throw 70 yard touchdown passes or break off huge gains against NFL defenses. If you could, you could go to jail and someone would sign you up the second they saw something they could use. How else do you explain Ray Lewis (murder) Kobe Bryant (rape) Don't get me wrong, I love dogs. Have two. But Ray-Ray and Kobe hurt PEOPLE and did NO TIME. Vick did his time. Let the man work. That's what you'd want for yourself if it happened to you, no? Performance today was awesome, he won us the game thealphawolf
go go Mikey!! you don't have a full time job here, but next year u gonna get paid and those of us who appreciate on-the-field action will get the pleasure of seeing you light it up every week. barrywil- Stop with the Kolb will start madness. Kolb is a back-up QB today and will be forever. If he played for the Browns, Chiefs, Lions, or any other bottom feeder team, he would be a back-up. Vick is an All Pro and a star in this league. He won that game single handedly today with one spectacular play after the other. If Reid starts Kolb, he should be fired at halftime.
- @Badbadwifey...Get a life. He served his time, disgraced his name and lost millions. It's people like u that makes society the way it is. He made a mistake and paid for it dearly. People like u just want to keep kicking him while he is down. Whether he is remorseful or not is between him and God. That's who forgiveness he needs, not yours. ewsavage

don't get too comfy on the bench tho' Mikey. Andy's line gonna get slowpoKKe mangled before the year is over. barrywil
Badbadwifey...give it a break. He paid his dues. I am from China where we eat doggies. Do you hate me too? phillyborn4- Ummm....yeah....."great" win over the, uhhhh.....Detroit Lions. An NFL powerhouse.
There is only one reason Vick has ever been questioned as to whether or not he should start for any team not having Brady, Manning, or Brees... Public Relations! The guy has alltime talent. Coach Reid will probably let Kolb start for a while to let him play his way out of Philly or prove he is the next Montana. The pressure on him is probably too much 4 most mortals but I wish him the best!!! ThaTruthHurts
Vick got what he needed. Some game film. Today's game will be his resume when he heads off for the starting job he covets. Grazman
Who is this Kevin Kolb guy I keep hearing about? Go birds!! Ghostface- Calling Bill20...Calling Bill20...(silence) LMAOLOLOLOLL. Shut your mouth boy!!!!!!!!!!!! What excuse you have now!!!!!!!!! elijah29
Its funny how society in America is today .. A man kills dogs and you wanna decapitate him or hand him a life sentence.. Im from the mean street of Philly where people, yes i said PEOPLE get killed on the regular .. Where are all the picket signs and protestors then ??? Murder is murder dont get me wrong and not to justify what he did in anyway but we're not talkin about poodles and chihuahua's here !! Badwifey I like to see u pet a vicious pit bull on the prowl hungry and angry while its growling at u .. The only people who should be angry are the people who fight for the cause all day and all year round.. PETA !! nOT YOU ALL OF A SUDDEN AMINAL LOVERS WHO JUST SEE A REASON TO OPT FOR ANY CAMERA THATS ROLLING !! LEAVE THAT MAN ALONE AND LET HIM PLAY !! AaronMc
And you all wonder why people say Philly fans are the worst? 1 bad half of football and Kolb is now a career backup? You all are ridiculous. Aaron Rodgers struggled at times during his first year; Peyton Manning ALWAYS struggles against 3-4 defenses. 1 bad half is not indicative of how successful Kolb will be as a qb. You all are the same illogical, impatient fans who hated on the Phillies, Charlie Manuel and Ruben Amaro in July. After Kolb has a big game against the Jags you all will be on here calling him the next Steve Young. phillypatrick3

I do like animals, but that wasn't the point. You commit a felony and try to get a job. Vick is a loser who can throw a football. He should not be in the NFL. badbadwifey- Actually Vick is the backup and will always be a backup for the rest of his career. Judging by the lack of interest from around the league, no team wants to build around him nor deal with the PR headache. He has not demonstrated anything that they don't already know. Kolb, on the other hand, is an unknown quantity at this point. Anyone that says otherwise either is a moron or has an ulterior motive.
Keep at 'em Elijah. BTW, you heard from wiff? I worried....heh heh heh. tpizza- badbadwifey you got plenty of felons wit J.O.B.S,white ones ,black ones, asians ones ,spanish ones ,hispanics ones ,persians ones, arabs ones ,jewish ones you get the point baby
dmac6419 - what about the good ole boy that wanna poach, hunt just to kill something, kill tigers just to see what they taste like,i can go on and on but i wont dmac6419
- kolb aint $hit, quote unquote and you can quote dat dmac6419
I'm not a Vick fan, but to me, you have to ride the hot hand. He's not turning the ball over, (he got real lucky today a few times), and they are scoring. They are doing well in the red zone, much better than the departed #5 did. Things at times look kind of reckless, but its not boring. watsonmr
Kudos to Vick, the Eagles were lucky to start him. Kolb or McNabb would have lost this game with the pressure from the Lions. Way to go Mike. benjluc
