Vick impressive in win

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Miles to go yet, obviously. But Michael Vick gave Andy Reid and the Eagles everything they needed in his first game since being anointed the team's starting quarterback.

Against the godawful Jacksonville Jaguars, Vick was persistent and he was good. He stayed in the pocket and he dealt with the pressure and he delivered the ball in the first half -- and then he did the highlight reel stuff in the second half, completing a 45-yard touchdown strike to Jeremy Maclin up the left sideline, an efforless 42-yard flick off of his back foot to DeSean Jackson after that, and then scoring himself on a 17-yard scramble.

The final score -- Eagles 28, Jaguars 3 -- pretty accurately reflected the happenings. And now the Eagles will bring a 2-1 record and some momentum into the return of Donovan McNabb next Sunday to Lincoln Financial Field.

For the game, here were Vick's numbers: 17-for-31 for 291 yards, 3 TD and 0 INT. His quarterback rating was 119.2. Much of the first half, though, was a bit understated. Other than one throw -- a 61-yard touchdown strike to Jackson -- neither Vick nor the Eagles' offense could get much traction against the Jaguars. It was the kind of first 28 minutes that left you shrugging, for the most part, and wondering a little what all of this Vick-for-Kevin Kolb commotion was about.

But then came a nice 53-yard 2-minute drill to close the half. It featured a 22-yard completion to tight end Brent Celek on third-and-8, a play when the pass protection held up against a Jacksonville blitz. The touchdown came on a 16-yard pass to Maclin, a play in which Vick had all day and Maclin worked his way back to Vick from the back of the end zone to the goal line, dancing perilously close to the sideline as he did.

So it was 14-3 at the half. The long strike to Maclin made it 21-3, and then Vick's 17-yard scramble made it 28-3. That left all of us to deal with an entire fourth quarter of garbage time, and to wonder if Reid would bring Kolb off of the bench to get a little work at the end. He didn't.

A win against a terrible defense, good job. The Skins should pose a bigger threat, but seeing as they can't beat the Rams, well....Vick might be on easy street until the Colts.

So what, is Vick going to lead the Eagles to the playoffs only to lose in the first round? Is that progress?

Can't stand to watch the games, but the box score doesn't look like anything Kolb hasn't done already and as far as I know he hasn't been to jail, knowingly spread STDs, spent his off-field time organizing an illegal gambling ring- makes you feel sorry for Pete Rose-, etc. etc. People generally tune in to sports to relax, have fun, and feel good. Thinking about the Eagles makes me want to barf. Coming in to this week, Detroit was #30 and Jacksonville #29 in passing defense (Washington is #31). It would have been a great stretch to break in a young QB. I'd say talk to me when they play someone isn't horrible, but don't bother. I don't care.

The regular season champs are getting into full swing… beating up on the weak teams. Reid’s deception of the fans and media is on. Reid even enlisted Vick’s personal TV promoter Ron Pitts to relentlessly promote the scam that is unfolding. Pitts should never be permitted to do a Vick game ever again. Then to further humiliate Kevin Kolb… Reid was sending him in as a mop up QB. We already knew what a liar scumbag Reid is, but for him to embarrass Kolb by inserting him into the last series of the game is about as bush league as you can go.

Overrated. Woulda been 48-3 if KK started. Al that running around like a dope, TD throwing nonsense. You don't need that grandstanding to win a football game! Put Kolb back in and you'll really see this team play, like the 1st half against GB. THAT was eagles football, not this garbage. Can't wait to see D-mac take this team apart and show what a real QB does. On a more realistic note, still not convinced McDerment knows what's up, Jax ain't exactly good. Guess we'll find out. Good win for today tho.

What's sad is the fact, that the writers and some of you clowns tend to say things like "against a god awful defense" Shut the hell up and give your team some credit. Who thought we were be on top of the division at the end of week 3? Not many. Let's go Eagles!!
