Vick delivers as Eagles' starter

Andy Reid said he made Michael Vick his starting quarterback beause Vick exceeded all expectations in six quarters of play against the Packers and Lions.
This afternoon against the Jaguars, he was even more impressive.
Vick threw for three touchdowns and ran for another as the Eagles beat the Jaguars, 28-3, in Jacksonvile.
The Birds improved to 2-1 and moved into sole possession of first place in the NFC East.
Vick completed 17 of 31 passes for 291 yards, and the numbers could have been even better if not for a few drops. For the second straight week, he connected with DeSean Jackson early on a 61-yard touchdown in the first quarter. Jackson finished with five catches for 153 yards.
Vick also found Jeremy Maclin in the end zone twice. The Eagles have converted seven of eight red-zone opportunities into touchdowns. Three of those have been LeSean McCoy runs. Three have been Vick-to-Maclin touchdowns. And the other was Vick's touchdown run.
Vick was sacked three times, but had more time to drop back and find his receivers for big plays than he did a week ago.
He has not thrown an interception in 89 attempts this season and has not turned the ball over in 30 offensive possessions.
Defensively, the Birds bounced back also. After allowing 59 points in the first two weeks, the Eagles' defensive line dominated as they held the Jaguars out of the end zone.
The Eagles had six sacks - two from Trent Cole. Juqua Parker picked up his fourth sack. Trevor Laws had his best game of the season, and Darryl Tapp, who was active for the first time, played very well, picking up his first sack as an Eagle.
Now we turn to McNabb week. Donovan and the Redskins fell to 1-2 after a loss to the Rams. Kickoff is set for 4:15 next Sunday at the Linc.
Should be a fun week.

Well, to put things in perspective. 291 yards passing is the fewest the Jaguars have given up in any game this year. So we don't all have to be impressed. As an average NFL QB over 6 years I think everyone assumed Vick could look good against defensive bottom dwellers like Detroit, Jacksonville and Washington (the 30th, 29th, and 31st ranked in pass defense). Who cares? He hasn't proven over his years in the league that he can consistently compete as a QB against the playoff caliber defenses. Feel free to get excited if the day ever comes that he does. If he isn't doing it in November, then the Eagles are just wasting their time and ticking off long-time fans to placate Reid's parental failings. jtj06
this game had a feel of a division II college game including the boring pitts and lynch calling the game on TV,jackonville stinks Temple would put a beatdown on them,,all that said conVick for the heisman trophy and a noble peace prize...LOL......wolf.

The Eagles did their job and Vick looked good. The second TD pass to Maclin was particularly impressive, as Vick put the ball between two defenders. But holy cow Jacksonville is terrible. If there's a worse team in the NFL, I'd be surprised. Gerrard is the pits. p-diddy
i haven't paid this much attention to the team since 2004. the most interesting part is watching the emergence of the Vick some thought was possible when burst upon the NFL. the next most entertaining is reading the bile spewed from out of town trolls stirring the pot and in-region haters gnashing their teeth at Mikey's success. barrywil
Comment removed.- Well, to put things in perspective, Andy was scared to put Kolb in the game with a comfortable lead late in the 4th quarter. He fully understood Kolb's new-found respect for NFL defensive linemen. Besides, in 4 years Kolb has only regressed, and his poor play is direction reflection of the Eagles' inability to choose No. 1 picks. While we're on the subject, riddle me this. If 291 yards is the fewest passing yards allowed by the Jags, what is the fewest points allowed by the Jags? I know it's a silly question, because the games are decided by total passing yards, not points. Uh-duh!!!!
- Fist Obama, now this!!!! I'm moving to Japan.
Soooo, no one can just be happy it's a win and just leave it at that. It's always sunny in Philadelphia. Fat-Andy
This is Vick's best chance at a SB. The opportunity likely won't happen again. As the Eag's QB, he's got weapons other than himself which he NEVER had at Atlanta. Let's see how he plays this. We could ALL be very surprised. On top of that, the NFC East S-U-C-K-S. Joe Blow
Please move to Japan. America will be better for it. Tks. Joe Blow
I will reserve my judgment until the big Vick/McNabb showdown. Win that one and we’ll have something to talk about. Guess it helps that the rest of the NFC appears to also be stinking it up early on and we’ve got as good a chance for Reid to pull off his usual Houdini act.... HighDrama- I'll go if you Joe Blow me.
- Well done Mike, well done! Please continue to make highlight plays so the haters will have something to refer back to when you have moved on to a city that appreciates a good athlete. Philadelphia, the city of brotherly love......unless you are Michael Vick.....
Go Easgles!!!
Fat Andy... you said it all brother! Sadly, the answer is "no" a win is never good enough.... after all, if it was what would there be to complain about? onedayer
Ummm i will be the first one to say it.......Nice win....am i the only guy who is a die hard eagles fan.....seems like it.....BYE HATERS illadelphiasfinest
Why can't we just enjoy the ride? Bobby62
Mike "Poochiman" Vick is my hero, I like him, he real good!!! SouthJerseyMike
jtj06 and lonewolf11 are just freakin' idiots. Please go away and don't ever come back. I hate when clueless, ignorant "fans" try to act as if they know sports. Morons. phillyinsd- Let's see - Michael Vick - 10 quarters (1 where he was running out the clock) 11 TDs 1 FG. Red zone - 7 TDs in 8 trips. The offense's rate of scoring has been consistent against all 3 teams. I don't care what Bill Simmons says, having the ball down 7 with two minutes to go in enemy territory is not "garbage time". Could you have imagined the criticism if Vick was limited to 3 FGs and a TD against the Rams? Next week will be interesting. Oh yea, Washington's offense? 7 FGs 5 TDs.
