Vick: 'I'm the One Who Lived It'

POSTED: Wednesday, September 12, 2012, 1:16 PM

We don't know that Michael Vick suddenly will start seeing his progressions better, or will stop trying to make impossible throws, when the Ravens visit the Linc Sunday.

We do know that Vick didn't need to hear the blistering criticism that followed his four-interception performance in the opener to want to do better.

Asked about criticism motivating him this week, Vick said Wednesday he is not one to for external motivation. (Plus, it's not like the critics were saying anything untrue.)

"I watched the film," Vick said to a huge throng of reporters pressing in on his locker stall. "I'm the one who lived it. Everyone else just kind of watched it from afar, they're just speculating about it ... I'm the one that's got to deal with it and go out there and make it right.

"This is a game that I love ... every game is not going to be easy, every game is not going to be what everybody thinks [it should be]. Sometimes, it just may not be easy on the eyes."

Meanwhile, Eagles coach Andy Reid said WR Jeremy Maclin (hip) will not practice today. Reid said Maclin is not yet ruled out of Sunday's game, but we sure seem to be heading in that direction, with the Eagles adding WR Mardy Gilyard Tuesday.

Reid said 2011 second-round pick Jaiquawn Jarrett, whom the Eagles cut to bring Gilyard aboard, ought to do better in another type of system. Reid would not discyuss why things didn't work out for Jarrett here, apparently not wanting to harm Jarrett's chances at another chance elsewhere. But he seemed to be saying a team that plays a more traditional box safety might be able to use Jarrett, the 54th player selected in that draft and the earliest-cut high draft pick of the 14-year Reid era.

Vick has been allowed to live in a dream world re his professional QB skills. He has been told since high school that he is an amazing athlete with an unusual blend of speed and arm strength. What he has never been told is that he is NOT a very good QB. Facts and stats over 7 years don't lie. The only way he will have success is if he is told to MANAGE the game, not try to WIN the game. 3 step drops, 5 step drops, quick reads, quick throws, play action for the long ball, 25-35 passes max, no rolling pockets, no long developing plays, quick, simple, safe. If he will do that, the Eagles can win. If Andy and Michael refuse to implement that system, Vick will not be the starter by week 6.

I'm not a huge Vick fan, but can't really consider his QB play during the entire 2010 season a fluke.

If I was is coach it would be simple: You have 2 weeks to demonstrate that you have learned. If after 2 weeks you haven't proved it, you're gone.

Forget the Ravens front four, Vick can't handle blitzing cheerleaders with tape recorders. "I'm freaking out as best I can."

Man, Vick must be smoking something! He's believing he's living in Camelot, and playing like he's in hell.

My neighbor, who is 5'3" and weighs 321 pounds thinks she can be a model. Vick thinks he is an elire quarterback. Andy Reid thinks he can pick good quarterbacks he was in Green Bay when Bret Favre was there. What are these people smoking???????????

Vick is not the answer, many fans know and understand that. The real problem is Reid. Reid makes the decisions on who plays at QB and what plays are in the game plan. Reid has a direct radio hookup to both Morhinweig and Castillio. Reid, Reid, Reid, Reid a thousand times. Its Reid!!!!

Vick's main problem (okay, one of several) is he holds onto the ball too long. I made note during the game this weekend when he dropped back. The majority of the times he held the ball 5 - 7 seconds. Way too long. WCO is drop back, one...two...three...throw! I'm not sure if it's Reid/Mornhinweg trying for the bomb all the time or Vick trying to make ESPN Top 10, but either way - throw it! Regardless of why, holding onto the ball for that long leads to one of two things: the pocket crumbles and the throwing lanes evaporate or the secondary totally blankets the receivers and there is no hope to make a play. Look what Cleveland did with that (*d@mn*) quick slant across the middle! 8 - 10 yards per attempt!

That is what I liked when I watched Foles in pre-season (and to a lesser extent Edwards). He dropped back found his target and released. Step...step...step...zip - that's it! Foles lacks some polish, but with the short drop and high tempo/high percentage passes, I think he'd be killer with the targets he has.

Jason Whitlock is one of the FEW black journalists that is critical of blacks when warranted. Never saw him as one who blames white people. Found him to be fair with most issues. Think you might have him confused with someone else.

What a load of presumptuous, self-righteous, patronizing, smug nonsense from a felonius whiner. Cue the blind conVicktim sycophants, stubborn in mindless enabling and apologizing for a lowlife who's won exactly how many playoff games? How many SBs? An overhyped creation of blowviating talking heads. The truth's taken too long to reveal itself but finally has, in spite of the knee jerk defenders (few & fewer all the time) who continue to make excuses for a dysfunctional, bad decision making, less than mediocre QB who's too lazy & too self-inflated to change. Or just not smart enough. And where were all these apologists when 5 was around? Too busy running him out of town when he was winning playoffs with far less talented receivers. Don't remember him talking dynasty either. conVicktim is not just an unrepentant felon but a con who brags about lying with a straight face & then proceeds to lie some more. Why not? Can always count on the groupies to lap up the blather & condemn anyone else who dares critique their fading (not fast enough) false idol. By the most despicable means. But true fans know the truth is revealing itself. The conVicktim Experience (in what? Incarceration?) is thankfully coming to a long overdue end. The ineptitude & hypocrisy is close to over. The turnover machine is running himself out of town. Good riddance.

Id like to know if Reid would have benched McNabb in the Browns game? He finally admits to Jarrett...will he ever admit that the Vick experiment is a disaster ...that he can never be a true QB in the league especially in a west coast offense? Man up Red..time to admit all the mistakes....Marty, Vick, your pass happy game plans, time management ..oh and lets not forget ...promoting Juan.

The problem that Vick faces isnt that he cant read a defense.. Its he refuses to throw the nessasary checkdown pass. If he doesnt get Desean, Maclin, Celek/Avant.. he doesnt even consider McCoy to be a option. Once he gets over that he'll be fine. He threw checkdowns his entire career in altanta and he complained about the offense his entire time there. Thats probably why he doesnt want to throw the checkdown. Alge Crumpler was the only guy designed to get the ball in atlanta thats why there was no need to study Greg Knapp's peas and popcorn offense. But now he has a bigger problem. Trying to stay alive with a paper mache interior of a offensive line. Good luck Vick. Run for your life. Its Ray Lewis this week.

I'm guessing that Vick will be using whatever the "critics" say as motivation this week vs Baltimore, a game where the Eagles are set up perfectly to win. Baltimore is likely to be feeling high and mighty over their Monday night blowout win, while the Eagles(who love the idea of being portrayed as an underdog even when they're favored)will very likely be more ready to play this week. The Eagles better win this week because this week isn't even the REAL test; the real test will be when the Eagles face a hungry, capable team in the playoffs and the Eagles are EXPECTED to win. Vick should not be held to a lower standard than McNabb, just because MANY fans consider McNabb to be a whiner, and Vick to be a gritty warrior(a la Iverson, who had other warriors on the 2001 Finals team that he takes credit for). Fans should hold these players to the same standard - were they championship players?

Andy will just say one of his usual cliche things "I have to put
my players in positions to make plays" so that means Vick throwing
75% of the time with a line that can't hold back water, and then
not let his best offensive weapon Shadey McCoy touch the ball?

How bout this cliche "dumb as bricks" for fatty?

Most of the people pulling out the pitch forks and burning crosses just have an agenda. Bottomline is if the interior of that line can take some hgh or something maybe Vick can throw some decent games. Until then, run for your life. The people pulling out the white hoods with the fire sticks and crosses on their chest dont like the rookie too much if they are trying to put him in with this version of the eagles offensive line.

Any pale faced QB will do. Vick led Eagles to comeback win with minutes left in the game and gets attacked. When white QBs like Rodgers, Brees, Manning and others lose klansmen masquerading as fans blame the RBs, the defense or anybody else. How biased can you be? Let the Eagles play the season out and pull your shets from over your eyes. Go Birds!

    Lol@mikey...

The NFL just started entertaining the black man playing qb. The so called minority has had a 100 year start. lol clown.. Vick was the first qb EVER that was black selected with the first overall pick. The guy that held the title of highest selected black qb ever was well.. Donovan Mcnabb. And that was only 10 years ago. lol Brees, Manning and all those other guys have another thing in common with those superbowls as well. They had the opportunity to play the position. Before that black kids werent even allowed to play qb in pee wee warner. They tried to turn Warren Moon into a running back lol. And he wasnt even a athlete lol. Talk about racism? Really? find some ground first.
