Vick Doesn't Need Tebow Waiting in Wings

POSTED: Tuesday, March 20, 2012, 11:28 AM

Should the Eagles swing a trade for Broncos quarterback Tim Tebow?
Yes, he'd be a great backup for Vick.
No, he's all hype.

Yesterday, when news broke that the Broncos were getting Peyton Manning, I texted Eagles general manager Howie Roseman. "When's Tebow coming?" I asked. Ha-ha. Hee-hee. Yuk, yuk.

Didn't get a response. Didn't expect one. Howie is, after all, a Florida alum. But really -- Tim Tebow, a 46.5-percent passer last season in his "breakthrough" year, running Andy Reid's West Coast offense? Lotsa touch passing and reading? How would that work? How did it work with Vince Young last season?

Yet, some folks on the internets today are citing the Young debacle as a precedent why the Eagles might pursue Tebow. This often happens in such cases, and the logic always eludes me. Let's say I buy a used car, and it turns out to be a bad investment, breaking down a lot and costing me a lot of money. Then, later, after I get rid of it, somebody is selling a similar car. Am I a likely potential buyer? Or the least likely buyer?

But all of that aside, this is Michael Vick's team and locker room. If the Eagles are going to win the Super Bowl next season, it is going to be behind Vick. If you paid any attention to Tebowmania last season, you know that Tebow has a huge gravitational pull. I already have a tweet from somebody today contrasting the "dog killer" with the "clean-cut, God-fearing" Tebow. We really, really, really, really don't need this, after every loss. Really.

I am not a Tebow "hater." I was thrilled to watch him beat the Steelers in the playoffs. Generally, I like it when somebody runs roughshod over conventional wisdom. But my view, Tebow needs to go to a place with a run-oriented offense, where he will start. Yes, the Eagles need a good plan if Vick should miss three games again with injury, but bringing the circus to town to camp out next to Vick's locker isn't that plan.

If the Eagles had the Broncos defense, they would have won 11-12 games last year. If the Broncos had the Eagles defense, Tim Tebow would have made a career out of driving his team down the field on the last play of the game, scoring a touchdown, and still losing by at least two scores.

Well, McNabb didn't work for 11 years. Vick and Kolb didn't work in 2010 and Vick and Young didn't work in 2011. These were the quarterbacks you backed for the Eagles over the last 13 years Les. What sane man woiuld listen to you? Let's see, Tebow went to the playoffs and beat the number one defensive team in the NFL. Vick did not make the playoff, had a league leading 36 turnovers, 18 interceptions and was routed by the Steelers in preseason, looking like a bad sandlot team. Vick got sshuit out like McNabb was shut out in Dallas in 2009 when the Eagles were the number two tean behind the New Orleans Saints.
Hey Les, Joe Banner is one the phone asking you who they should sign in free agency. hahahahahaha

@autolimpos, since your brain is on 'off' let's see if I can explain to you how to use proper English. The Mike Vick Experience is better than the Tim Tebow Talent. Got it? Convict is spelled this way, idiot! Since you are a secret Cowgirl lover, please reply on that site and stay away from Eagles sites. Loser! GO EAGLES!

Time to get over the Vince Young thing. The guy was signed on a 1 year deal to be a BACK-UP QB. Calling it a "debacle" is going too far. Not like they made a major commitment to the guy or anything. They took a 1 season flyer on him to be a back-up, nothing more.

Tim Tebow plays with something very few of today's players do. He has heart and he never leaves the field without giving 110%. Notice how quiet Denver players are right now? Do you really think they are going to get the same effort out of a guy that has not thrown a pass for what , 2 years now? Tim Tebow, regardless of if he is starting or not, will make your team stronger. I would welcome him to this team with open arms, it has been a long time since the Eagles have picked up someone worth cheering for....

We don't need the drama if he is such a great back-up QB then why didn't Denver keep him? His teammates did not seem all that disappointed that he is gone. I have nothing against Tebow the person, but he is not a back-up QB, he is not a QB and this media here would just cause too many issues with a team that is set up to win and know each other. NO TEBOW IN PHILLY!!!!!!!

The money the Eagles just spent on DeSean Jackson will be wasted if they bring in a QB like Tebow, who makes Donovan McNabb look like the most accurate passer in the world by comparison. There is NO WAY Tebow in Philly is going to happen. No way at all.
