Union reportedly looking into Eagles' trade
Daily News staff
The NFL Players Association is looking into whether a trade between the Eagles and Cardinals this week was a means to get around paying money into the rookie salary pool, the Associated Press is reporting.
The Eagles traded fullback Charles Scott to Arizona for cornerback/returner Jorrick Calvin. Scott was selected with the 200th pick in the April draft; Calvin was chosen at No. 201.
The Eagles said they had Calvin in for a visit before the draft and had been monitoring his progress. The Cardinals were in need of a fullback after an injury.
According to the report, "under collective bargaining rules, if a drafted rookie is cut by the team that drafted him, that team is required to pay 85 percent of that player's salary into a rookie pool. The money from that pool will be distributed to rookies early next year based on the number of downs played in the 2010 season. The way the rule is written, teams could circumvent the rookie pool payment by trading a drafted player they were going to cut to another team — and have that team cut the player."
Union spokesman Carl Francis declined to comment to the AP on the Eagles-Cardinals trade.
The union also is reportedly looking at a deal between the Redskins and Rams. The Redskins sent sixth-rounder Dennis Morris to the Rams for a conditional, undisclosed draft pick, and St. Louis sent fifth-round pick Hall Davis to Washington, also for a conditional, undisclosed pick. Davis was cut after one practice with the Redskins.

Been a rough couple of days for DeSean Jackson, and he is feeling the effects. Jackson strained his neck/upper back on the first series against Kansas City and did not return. Coach Andy Reid said that was just a precautionary move.
Jackson then had his wisdom teeth removed Monday. Anyone who has had that done knows how painful it is in the immediate aftermath.
Unable to sleep at about 5 a.m., Jackson took to Twitter for an update, "Just 4 ur info .... I don't wish this pain on no 1 ... [Stuff] woke me up outta my sleep kicc'n my [butt]. Can't wait for this [stuff] to be gone."

In case you were wondering, Fox has assigned its No. 1 announce team to the Eagles-Green Bay season opener. Joe Buck, Troy Aikman and Pam Oliver will be at the Linc.

Eagles Stink so who really cares... Big Ragu
Awesome, We get to listen to Joe Buck kiss Aikman's arse for 3 hours. barefoot- Oh great!! I can't decide what excites me more: Getting to hear Pam "Forehead" Oliver's take on how much water is left in the water bottles!! Or getting to hear Joe Buck consistantly trash the Eagles...and while he's at it...I'm sure he'll tell us how the Braves will win the division and the Phils stink. Thank the good Lord we have Merrill Reese!!
I know I'm in the small minority but this Twitter thing is out of control. It's so egotistical to think anyone cares about mundane details of every day life. DennyP- Little buddy's teeth hurt, aww. Twitter at it's worst... gho_matt
What? Pam Oliver won't be covering McNabb? Could.It.Really.Be...ColonelAngus

Yet another inane report of some injury (my favorite was when Asante Samuel missed a morning practice due to an upset stomach reportedly because of a new breakfast cereal he had tried...). Covering training camp has got to be one of the more professionally embarrassing assignments for our crack football reporters. That is, until the season starts, when they then get to sit with Comcast personalities to further the minute and mundane until the cows come home. In a world now dominated by a TMI media, pro football might be the worst offender. That said, keep me posted if Stew Bradley's tweets about an in grown toe nail, or where he gets his car washed. bobcitydoc
I agree DennyP, although, one may consider posting one's opinion on a message board is egotistical as well. I know that is why I post, to feed my wonderful ego. The Reddgie
where else would the haters go...this is thier life you know......... nuggett
Funny thing about Twitter is you dont have to follow it. As far as ego's go, I am sure Desean Jackson does not have one...yeah right. jphil
Great. So I have to watch the season opener on mute. Fozzie27
People are funny. I watch all the local teams and have seen every eagles game that aikman/Buck have done and I see all the saturday fox baseball games that Buck has done with the phillies. Not only does he never trash the philly teams, Ive heard him several times speak of his admiration for the local fan base and how passionate we get. He's also called our sports complex one of the best in the country. He's also said that he couldnt think of a more electric sports experience than an eagles playoff game at the linc. These are things said almost word for word from Buck. Its funny how people are. Its like Microsoft and Bill Gates, John Madden, Joe Buck. People seem to get on the bandwagon with the hatred of these guys and automatically jump on them when its likely they actually have no idea why they trash them. All they know is that they hear everyone else doing it so it must eb the thing to do. Now someoen like Tim McCarver, you can see why everyone gets mad at him because he can be long-winded and tries to romanticize every little aspect of the game and he overanylizes everything. These are the things that everyone rips McCarver for and when you watch its obvious that they are true charges, but Buck? Give me a break. I ahte the cowboys as much as anyone but Aikman and Buck do a great job and Buck does a great job on baseball. Yes, he can come off as pompous at times but I honestly think he's never lived down becoming a #1 broadcaster at such a young age. I remember people having a problem with that and I think that negativity towards him si still there. Sewellmatt
