Tuesday's NFL coaching rumors round-up
Update (2:40 p.m.) - The Eagles have announced that they will interview former Bears coach Lovie Smith on Thursday.

Key targets like Doug Marrone (Buffalo), Andy Reid (Chiefs) and Chip Kelly (Oregon) have found homes for 2013, but here are the latest reports from the NFL coaching rumor mill:
- Rex Ryan, still firmly in charge in New York, is hoping for former Chargers coach Norv Turner or former Ravens offensive coordinator Cam Cameron to fill the role vacated after the recent firing of offensive coordinator Tony Sparano. The Jets also let go QB coach Matt Cavanaugh.
- With their first choice Kelly no longer an option, the Eagles have a versatile collection of names linked to them. The team has completed interviews with Broncos offensive coordinator Mike McCoy, Falcons defensive coordinator Mike Nolan, and Falcons special teams coach Keith Armstrong. They have plans to interview offensive coordinators Bruce Arians (Colts) and Jay Gruden (Bengals), as well as Seahawks defensive coordinator Gus Bradley.
- The Eagles seemed to have no proven interest in higher profile candidates liek Jon Gruden and Bill Cowher, but ESPN analyst and former Eagle Ron Jaworski has become a vocal advocate for a union between Gruden and the Birds.
- The Browns are linked to a number of names since the collapse of their deal with Kelly, one of whom is Canadian Football League coach Marc Trestman. Trestman has previously won consecutive league championships (2008-09) as head coach of the Montreal Alouettes, and been named coach of the year in 2009.
- It's been said that Jon Gruden wouldn't leave his ESPN analyst gig unless it was for an "ideal situation," and the Cleveland Browns don't provide exactly that. But there are enough connections between Gruden and Browns' owner Jimmy Haslam to spark some rumors.
- Assistant general manager George Paton is a six year veteran of the Vikings, but his name has come up enough for a potential change of scenery. Both the Browns and Panthers have reported interest in Paton as a GM. Meanwhile, former Browns GM Tom Heckert was scheduled to meet with the Jets about thier GM opening, but has since canceled.
- The Bears, with the longest "short" list of anyone, have added another name to their search: Former 49ers head coach Mike Singletary, who was fired by San Francisco with one game to play in 2010. Currently an assistant coach with the Vikings, Singletary is joined in the rumor by Mike Priefer, Minnesota's special teams coach.
-Packers offensive coordinator Tom Clements has been somewhat of a darling in the head coach searches. The team most commonly linked to him--the Bears--does not have his attention as his current team continues their playoff run.
- One family is dominating the NFL coaching search, as another Gruden has plans to meet with the Cardinals in Arizona this week: Jon's brother, Jay. A number of teams have shown interest in the Bengals' offensive coordinator--including the Eagles--and the Cardinals have been casting a wide net, interviewing Broncos offensive coordinator Mike McCoy, their own defensive coordiantor Ray Horton, and have received permission from the Steeler to talk to offensive coordinator Todd Haley.
- The Chargers are also interwoven in this saga, as their interests overlap in the form of Bruce Arians. They've also been linked to former Packers and Seahawks head coach Mike Holmgren and UCLA coach Jim Mora. Like the Browns, San Diego is simultaneously hunting for a GM, turning to their own director of player personnel Jimmy Raye and Colts' Tom Telesco, who fills the same position in Indianapolis.
- After making Ron Rivera sweat through a few extra days, the Panthers have decided to keep their head coach on through 2013.
