Training camp questions

Eagles training camp is not that far away. The siren song of the long, hot days at Lehigh is starting to call.

And that means that the answers to Eagles fans' questions will start to emerge. The problem is, what are the questions?

That's where the Eagletarian audience comes in. As you look at this roster, this coaching staff, this division, what are the biggest questions you have? What needs to be answered for you to get a better sense of what this team is and can be?

We ask you this now, because the Eagletarian is going on vacation. We will be back in about 2 weeks to continuemax, blogging providing you the daily updates on everything Eagles. Until then, the time is yours. Max Bowen, pictured here hard at work, will continue to monitor comments, but he can't seem to get the hang of posting. And he keeps wanting to know why the Eagles cut Zak Collie.

We also want to say thanks ... Eagles fans have embraced our new Daily News Eagles blog since it launched on draft weekend. The response has been tremendous. We have much more in store for you as training camp and the season begins. Stay tuned.

And we leave you with a memorable Eagles moment to savor over and over again ...

one question that is a good one originated by comments from Andy Reid, when he did an interview with WIP (I believe). He mentioned something about how it is difficult motivating players with the same coaching staff and the same message. A very good point, and i wonder what he or his coaching staff could do different, or hopefuly are doing differently, to really pull the most from the players. It is funny because thinking of the difference over the years maybe this has become an issue. there are always obvious questions like #1 WR and such, but if the coach loses some of the motivation he used to have it would seemingly be a big deal. Is this an issue for the team, and what could be done to improve with the current team?

clearly first order of business is addressing the Scott Young issue since he was a no show at the OTAs.

I hope the Scott Young comment was sarcastic.....

here's a question - what are the chances the eagles do finish 8-8 or worse and the Panthers finish 8-8 or worse? That will leave the Eags with 2 picks in the better half of the first round. Imagine how many better picks they can get when they trade BOTH of those picks next year!! By 2011 they'll have 5-first round picks - and still no receivers.

Scott Young??? better said Scrub Young......or Seeya Young....I am weary of the same old AR speak....The club is not doing enough to ove this team forward...we need an impact player...instead we get the AR blah blah blah about McNabb...living in Steeler country it is hard to defend my team....3rd in NFC east at best....unless Mcnabb gets hurt! Oh I guess they have a good chance then.....

Will Reid run a more balanced offense? No, he'll pass. Will McNabb stay healthy? History suggests it's 50/50. Will the offense be able to convert in the red zone? That's the biggest question of all. Needs to be answered in the affirmative, because with more firepower on D, we'll be getting more turnovers, sometimes deep in opponents' territory.

They need to address the Young issue. if he wants out, they need to cut him ASAP. They can then evaluate the other reserves (JeanGilles, Nick Cole, Gibson, Dunlap, Stefan Rodgers, and Justice). they know what they have up front now (Thomas-Herremans-Jackson-Andrews-Runyan). Clarifying the Scott Young issue will provide better definition for the back ups.

Will the defensive line get the pressure needed to make the most of what should be an opportunistic secondary? Will Sheldon Brown see any time at safety? Is there enough quality depth on the o-line? All eyes on Reggie Brown -- are he and DMac in sync? They weren't pretty much all of last season.

If it was up to Andy Reid, he'd probably have cut Scott Young immediately, but there's probably some kind of a rule that says a player can't be cut for not showing up at a "voluntary" team workout. So Andy will wait until the first cuts in training camp to dispose of this "cancer" to the team.

I think one of the biggest questions that is kind of flying under the radar right now is how will the offensive line perform this year? In 2006 they had a great year and were a big reason for our run into the playoffs. Last year they were up and down. Too many dumb penalties and too many breakdowns (especially in the red zone). If the o-line can improve, especially in the red zone, this offense can return to its form from 2006 and 2004, no matter who the WRs are. http://www.santadeservedit.blogspot.com/

1. Will Akers have another terrible season? His last 2 have been awful; last year he was one of the worst in the league. 2. How many times will Les Bowen blast the Eagles for something stupid before the season even starts? You stink, Les. 3. Where will Domo's Power Rankings place the Eagles if they're healthy on September 1? My guess is around 18.

4. how many weeks will it take until a philly writer says "the season's over"?

Les Bowen reminds of Bruce Bowen. Irratating and painful to the very end

when was the last time the eagles drafted a reciever that turned out to be a legitimate #1 go to guy? Would the Eagles have made a play to get T.O. if that agent didn't mess up his chances for free agency? This team will never get a superbowl. I'm a diehard Eagles fan and after a few decades of hoping, I have a resolve to understand what a winner is ...and a loser. Jerry Jones ..I hate to say this with all my eagle heart "IS A WINNER" He cares about paying players, he cares about the fans...and he cares about making that money. "Winner" in every since of the word

Andy needs a new boss. Jeffery Lurie seemingly has no desire to win the SB, since the profits that he's getting from letting the front office (Can Andy PLEEEEEASE give the VP title up, and just do what he does best?) dupe us for the past ten years seems to get larger and larger. I'm sorry, but when you let your FO draft a guy who's already hurt and on barely anyone's radar anyway, you really have to question the man's cajones.
About The Daily News' Eagles Blog
Les BowenLes Bowen has covered the Eagles for the Daily News since 2002. Before that, he spent nearly 13 years covering the Flyers. It took Les only a few seasons after the switch to figure out that there was no penalty box at the Linc, and that the time really wasn't his, despite what Andy Reid kept saying. Les came to Philadelphia and the Daily News from Charlotte in 1983. In the intervening years, he has pretty much lost track of NASCAR, and his accent. He, his wife Barbara, and their two sons live in Haddon Township, New Jersey.

Rich HofmannRich Hofmann arrived at the Daily News in 1980 for a job whose status was officially designated as "full-time, temporary." A senior at Penn at the time, he was hired to fill in on the copy desk during a staff illness. The notion of him covering the Eagles or being a columnist did not exist in anyone's imagination. It was supposed to be six weeks and out, but he never left. It is only one of the reasons why so many people have concerns about him as a potential house guest. Rich has blogged the postseasons of the Flyers and Eagles.

Paul DomowitchPaul Domowitch has been with the Daily News since 1982. He has spent most of his 26 years at the paper covering the Eagles and pro football. A native of Wilkes-Barre and a graduate of Wilkes University, where he spent 3 years as the sports editor of the school paper and zero semesters on the dean's list, Domo came to the Daily News from the Fort Worth (Tx.) Star-Telegram, where he covered some very bad Texas Ranger baseball teams. His first beat at the Daily News actually was boxing, which he covered just long enough to lose two sports coats to blood spatter before moving on to football. Domo and his wife Shelley, who is a University of Oklahoma grad and is dangerous to be around following a Sooner loss, have been married 27 years and have raised 2 terrific daughters – Allison, 23, who attends Boston University School of Law; and Amy, 21, a sports marketing major at Clemson. When he's not writing about football, Domo enjoys reading Robert Parker, John Sandford and Harlan Coben novels and playing pickup basketball when his arthritic hip doesn't object.
