The tumultuous saga of Tony Romo's bad back continues.

The Cowboys announced Saturday afternoon that Tony Romo suffered a broken bone in his back. Romo had an MRI on Friday, which revealed the broken bone.

Machota is reporting Romo could be out "6 to 10 weeks."

The Eagles face the Cowboys in Week 8 and Week 17 this season. If Romo only misses six weeks, and is able to return and play, the Eagles could theoretically face him in Week 8. According to MMQB's Peter King, that is the team's goal. The Cowboys have Week 7 off with a bye.

During the Cowboys' preseason game against the Seahawks on Thursday, Romo left the game early after Seahawks defender Cliff Avril hit him in the back as Romo scrambled out of the pocket.

Romo, as you might recall, has a history of back injuries dating back to 2013. He suffered a herniated disk that season, and faced the Eagles after undergoing back surgery that December.

He suffered another back injury in 2014, and missed one game, but otherwise led the Cowboys to a 12-4 record that year.

According to Garrett, Machota said, this recent injury is unrelated to the previous back injuries he suffered.

Last year, Romo was injured by a hit from the Eagles' Jordan Hicks in Week 2. He missed eight games, and played just four games last year.

Romo, 36, has started 127 career games with the Cowboys. He's the franchise's leader in passing touchdowns and passing yards.
