Terrell Owens said he and Donovan McNabb made each other better. (Ron Cortes / File photo)

It's been nearly four years since Terrell Owens was a member of the Eagles, but the wide receiver says he still misses Philly.

"I do miss you guys," he said during a Friday interview with ESPN 950's Mike Missanelli. "I had a year and a half of my best career there in Philly. It was short-lived but I did enjoy the fans there. They were fanatics. I know when I came to that stadium and I drove up to that stadium, they got me psyched, they got me ready to play ball. I'm very fortunate to have played for that organization."

Owens abstained from taking any shots at Donovan McNabb during the interview, which also included model Joanna Krupa, who T.O. is partnered with for the upcoming ABC show Superstars.

Instead, he said the problem arose with the Eagles' management, who refused to discuss a new deal after the Super Bowl.

"Of course," Owens answered, when asked if he would have remained an Eagle if the team offered to rework his contract. "I work hard for what I do. I put in a lot of hard work into my body to keep my body the way it is during the season, during the offseason. I feel like I jeopardized my career given the injury that I sustained, people just don't know. Had I injured myself any further...I went against the doctors' orders."

"I wouldn't say they owed it to me," he continued. "But I thought out of respect and for what I brought to the team and what I did, it would have been considered."

Looking back on his time with the Eagles, T.O. first said he wouldn't change a thing in terms of how things played out. But when pressed by Missanelli, he quickly changed his tune.

"Looking back on it, there is a few things that I would have done differently, maybe interviews or what not," he said. "But the things that came from those interviews, trust me, and I have said it time and time again, people overreacted to what was being said, what was being reported. Again, not to harp on football too much, and go back to that and relive that, if people were to read the transcript of what happened and what I said, it would be clear to them."

Owens added that he's been successful everywhere he's played. Missanelli pointed out that critics would say he hasn't been successful in terms of his teams winning.

"My stats speak for itself," Owens said. "And teams' records prior to me getting there and after I've gotten there speaks for itself as well, so I think they're basically speaking off opinion and that's fine. Sometimes they're speaking out of anger. Just as well as a quarterback can make me better, I can make a quarterback better. And if you want to check the stats with that too, maybe they'll be able to reevaluate their opinion."

Did he make McNabb better?

"We both made each other better," Owens said.

And finally, Missanelli asked T.O. if he considered coming back to Philly after the Cowboys released him.

"Honestly when everything happened, it happened so fast," he said. "I didn't really have enough time to ponder that situation. It was a matter of 24 to 48 hours before things got to where I am now. We obviously talked about team possibilities, options, what have you. I think things ended so badly with myself and management, I never even thought they would even consider it, even though since then Donovan and I, we've talked, we've hung out and things are very amicable with us right now."

Lonewolf4-we did pay him, lots, and after one year he wanted more. he says he risked it all for the team and that is why he deserved more. BS. Its his job. Does a fireman who saves someone from a burning building refuse to go o=into a new burning building unless they pay him more? What did he get us? One extra win, and no TDs in the Super Bowl. He is a cancer, and a selfish player.

I don't remember Jerry Rice doing pushups in his driveway, asking for mo' money. Rice, Irvin and Harrison played for 1 team their whole careers. Why is it that 2 can't stick with one team and always has a problem with his QB?

He is missed and anyone who says different is delusional. It is just too bad for whatever reason, TO didn't handle himself different, he would have still been an Eagle, and we would have had one or two Super Bowl wins under our belts.

He put his career in jeopardy by playing in the Super Bowl an on ankle that needed rehabilitation. He made McNabb look amazing, just like Randy Moss made Cunningham look in Minnesota. The media blew everything out of proprotion with T.O., and ran him out of town. I would take him back in a hearbeat, and hope that he considers us when his one year deal with Buffalo is up. This guy is a player.

If you didn't like your contract, why did you sign it? Almost nobody re-does contracts after Year 1 of 7 years. Sounds like you more had a problem sharing your star T.O., but that's not new either.

Lets go back in time, flex capaciter style, T.O. was told to apologize to the QB for saying that Brett Favre would've had led the eagles to a 7-0 start (as opposed to 4-3), he wore a Mike Irvin Jersey to the cowboys 33-10 win gm, NOW HOW LUDACRIS IS THAT? Now I almost believed him when he made that real apology and then it all was ruined for good when Drew Rosenhaus stepped to the mic, remember T.O. you couldve played with Mike Mcmahon, funny how NFL dot com has you rated as the 15th! best wr, behind roy williams, classic.

This subject is completely played out and I can't believe it still gets attention. But, with that said, it amazes me how much this LONEWOLF character continues to de-value whatever remaining credibility he/she might have had. Of all the QB-WR comparisons noted, only one player remotely resembles the type of cancer that T.O. has become off the field - and that was Irvin. Yet, Irvin really only caused sideshows with his drug use and womanizing. Every other QB mentioned (even Aikman, though I hate the Cowpatties) are class acts. Not even Moss is that much of a pain and Plaxico is just moronic for shooting himself. So, before you try to rationalize a comment, it's good to think first!

Philly hates you, T.O. A lot. More than a lot. We want you to get hurt or retire and go away from football. Forever. You're a cancer on the sport, and you were a cancer on our Eagles, and you will never be forgiven for that. Go away and never look back!

BHite15, you forget he didn't play in the playoffs, so how could he of gotten them over the hump if he wasn't playing?...now he played in the Super Bowl and they lost. not saying it was his fault, I'm just saying he wasn't a "missing link"...one other thing - no duh the Eagles haven't won a SB, but how does getting rid of Reid and McNabb get them closer? These teams led by Reid and McNabb have been the best Eagles' teams ever and they both still have plenty left in the tank. Where is your logic man?
Posted 07:29 PM, 06/20/2009
Nothing but the truth
Whiff the key to winning the Super Bowl was defense which the eagles have yet to accomplish in any final game. In regards to T.O. the fact of the matter is that he has very child like behaviors. He was suppose to be a free agent back in 2004 but he didn't get his paperwork submitted in time and was subsequently traded to the Baltimore Ravens. After he whined and moaned about not being a free agent the Eagles jumped in and worked out a trade with the San Francisco 49'ers and signed him to a 7 year deal. If he didn't like the 7 year deal he should not have signed it at that time. If he wanted to be a true free agent he should have submitted his paperwork in time. While he was in SF he complained about the offensive coordinator the head coach and the QB. When he was in Philly he complained about the offensive coordinator, the head coach, and the QB. When he went to Dallas he complained about the offensive coordinator and the QB. Do you see a pattern? He is very childish in his antics and it has greatly diminished his team's success. When he and Donovan played together they had the best QB+WR combo in the game hands down. He threw all that away because he wants to constantly have things done his way all the time. Do you really think that if the Eagles paid him he would have fell in line? Look at what he did in Dallas. They paid him and he still went over the line. T.O. is what T.O. always was a selfish but talented player who brings teams down. Remember you can not build a city in 1 day, but it can burn in 1 day.

Lonewolf sounds like a poor politician, rewriting history. Rice, Harrison, Irvin and Burris are not cancers like Owens. Montana, Young, Manning didn't have to put up with his s---. And oh, by the way, their teams won the Super Bowl. Your argument is groundless.

T.O's *skills* are missed, but T.O. himself is not missed. He's a malcontent who is going to continue getting bounced around the league spreading his me-first cancer throughout teams who can him when they're sick of it.

T.O. was the best receiver the Eagles have had since before Carmichael. The front office knew what they were getting when they signed this guy and they mis-handled the whole thing. Just like Lindros...yes, Management will take poopies every now and then. We always wonder why somebody didn't get in this dudes face? Maybe, nobody was bad enough to do it. Either way, Owens had more to offer to the team than the team had to offer to him. Just that simple.

The Eagles got lucky with the rookie last year. Lets see.... pinkston mitchel, thrash, and the likes. TO has an attitude because he is good He has a big ego because he makes big plays. Don't get me wrong I love the eagles but they should have paid TO. If they had kept the money issues in house and paid him Donavan and TO would be dominating the league. Not waiting for next year to come. Yesiree we will get them this year. Well the eagles don't know how to draft bit play guys consitantly. McNabb, Westbrook, Jackson pure luck. I love the Eagles but you all know they blew the TO deal

Eagles Phan in LI
I blame management more than I do T.O. although both were to blame. There was absolutely no reason for Joe Banner to go public calling T.O. crazy. The whole point of upper mgmt ESPECIALLY in the FO is emotional detachment. Instead the Eagles went on the offensive. how well did that work out? We paid Kevin flippinn Curtis 6 MM plus but didn't think TO, a hall of famer was worth more than 7MM when he was THE ONLY player who showed up during the SB. I will rework the "CONTRACT" of any player who breaks the team record for touchdowns. Top performers are rewarded in the business world. When someone tops his sales number or brings in a huge client, he is rewared with a huge bonus or he takes the client of moves on. The Eagles and anyone running a football team knows that the same rules do not apply to everyone. They should have redone the deal back then. Instead we had to suffer through 2 years of blown opportunities. Thanks Joe.

F-TO. He's a punk and I'm glad he'll never be able to say he was a part of winning a Super Bowl here. We'll win one without him, and he'll be left to wonder what if he'd kept his Super Bowl sized mouth and ego in check. He's old now too... And Lonewolf 4, your comments as usual are the stuff of comedy. My suggestion is you move to NY and become a Lonewolf Ginas fan (Giants spelled the Philly way). Why do you come here if you want to bash what we have to work with? It won't change for you, so either get on board- or PLEASE actually go be a Lone Wolf. Your tirades are tired and uninspired. Go find Lone Wolf 1, 2 and 3 and be Giants fans.

TO blew it. If it was money that he wanted he could have had any amount he wished. Do you remember how popular he was after that season and the super bowl performance? He had everyone amazed. He was a hero n Philly AND around the country. Imagine all of the product endorsements he would have had! That's where the best athletes make the real money. TO could have had all of that. But what did he do? He started shooting his mouth off just a month or two after the superbowl ended. He bad-mouthed his own teammate for the sole reason of trying ot make himself look better. WHat he never realized is he looked great to everyone and had the world at his feet. Bottom line is he had all the money coming his way. I don't think he's telling the truth when he says he wanted more money because it was coming. He wanted his ego stroked plain and simple. You just can't win with a guy like that.

T.O. the player= Awesome...T.O. the teammate= trouble. Notice his response to his 'team wining' was to talk about his stats. He is no different from the jerks who run companies into the ground by looking out for their own bonuses. Those CEO's just don't get a microphone on ESPN every night or you would see how self-absorbed they are. T.O. represents the ugly part of society...A nice guy, good to hang out with, hard worker - but - completely selfish. It takes humility and working for something bigger than ourselves to achieve true success.

Look, Owens was not guiltless in all this but anyone who doesn't understand how arrogant this EAGLE management team is with regards to both players and fans is not watching closely. TO was a big mouth with a big EGO but also a great performer. All it would of took was a few "stroking words" and very little money to satisfy him at the time. But they would not even discuss it, thats insulting. They treat Donavan like a King and everyone else like "exchangable pawns". Wonder why no superbowl yet? I don't. Re-write contracts - never - oops - last week I read something about 5 million for Donavan. Great management team, isn't it. Respectable results is all we will ever get. Satisfied? Not me? Sorry...

Really, all it came down to was the contract. The Eagles offered T.O. a contract that the Players Association advised him not to sign. He did anyway because he just wanted to win. You knew he wouldn't want to play more of that contract than he had to. It was badly done on both sides, T.O. for signing the original contract and the Eagles for offering it, though I can understand their thought process because it was created as a "low risk" contract if they grew tired of his act after two years, which they did.

water under the bridge....you can can't go home again. He drops too many in key situations anymore, shows up his QB and coaches on the sideline and cares only about himself. How happy will he be when they can only run he be when it is 6 degrees in Buffalo, with a 30MPH wind and and the Bills are running every play ?

TO gave us his all here in Philly. He just wanted his money, and since he had never been taught the correct method of contract renegotiation, he went about it all wrong. It was the worst decision of his career to leave Philly. He was on national commercials (Deodorant, soft drinks), the cover of video games, and even caused a buzz with a Monday Night opener with a star on the hottest TV show at the time. He goes from all of this to Dallas (no playoff exposure, bad QB) and now to Buffalo (small market, should be in Canada, like Green Bay w/o the winning). TO should not be in control of his career. He should have begged his way back to Philly; for his career's sake.

i.e. I only have a one year contract with Buffalo, you guys want me and I need me to play in the NFL since, in all likelyhood, my career (team first as always) is over after 2009.

After I read some of the comments: we still wouldn't have won after giving TO what he wanted because: Westbrook would have wanted more money than TO and McNabb, arguably more valuable than TO and West36, would have wanted more than TO and 36. And since TO get's his deal reworked after just 1 year then everyone else with any market value would want their deals redone, etc, etc. Now, if you don't understand that then you do not understand the NFL. The only thing I can say is, yes we do need a stud WR. We have the entire McNabb tenure (excluding when TO was here). Everybody in Philly knows that so why can't the dang front office get it right (I'm looking right at you Andy!).

No way. Never. This guy has created bad juju everywhere he has been. Sometimes it is more important to have a team that functions well rather than a bunch of stars that hate each other. Remember the Phils five years ago? Lots of talent, no playoff appearances because of no chemistry.

An excellent player, but truly believes too much of his own hype. The best athletes are humble and not spending their time bragging on their accomplishments. Don't get me wrong, you should acknowledge your talent, just the arrogance is bad. Most of us can't do what he does, but humility is much more pleasing. Having him back may or may not help the team get to the Super Bowl, but at what price? Philly paid a heavy price for his arrogance before. How can you ask for more money after only one year of a negotiated contract and they didn't even win? Can we all do that, ask for a raise even though the goal hasn't been accomplished? Where is that job, I want to work there!

TO's presence on the Eagles in 2004 gave them *ONE* more regular season victory. In the previous 2 years, they'd gone 12-4. That year, they went 13-3. TO didn't play in the playoff games they WON. So for all the offensive stats he provided throughout the year, at the end of the day, he gave the Eagles ONE REGULAR SEASON VICTORY over what they had the previous years. So no, I don't miss him.

P Even, Jerry Rice played for Oakland, Seattle and got cut by Denver. Harrison is trying to find a team if anyone wants to pay him. WRs are not loyal creatures by nature because once they have a big year they go for the payday. Owens made it an easy regular season for McNabb and we went to the Super Bowl that year.

T.O. - got paid in Dallas, but No Super Bowl appearance, or even a single playoff win... It's amazing that T.O. has ultimately thrown almost every QB he's worked with under the bus (Garcia, McNabb, Bledsoe, Romo), and EVERY team he has been on has had problems with him (49ers, Eagles, Cowboys), but when it comes to Philadelphia, so-called "Eagles Fans" think it is somehow the fault of McNabb and/or the front office. Even the arbitrator (Richard Bloch) ruled on the Eagles behalf... the ultimate irony was that the Eagles organization was concerned about Richard Bloch as the arbitrator, as he had a history of ruling on the players' behalf. But that's right... these are the crazy Philadelphia Eagles fans that we're talking about... and the only team that they hate more than the Cowboys or the Giants... is the Philadelphia Eagles. Do I miss the talent T.O. brought to this team? How could I not? Does I miss the headaches he brought to our team? No... just like the 49ers, Ravens, or Cowboys don't miss T.O.

To all you delusional McNabb haters check the stats. McNabb was a 5-time pro-bowler before T.O. ever arrived. He did it with the likes of Freddie Mitchell, James Thrash and Todd Pinkston. You so called philly fans have no support and constantly riducule your franchise quaterback even though he has been one of the most productive and successful qbacks of the last decade. You love Jaws n wat he "accomplished as and eagle yet he never one a sb either and McNabb has now passed him in almost every statistical category. Whats it gonna take for you phony a@# "fans" to realize we got it made. You guys are a disgrace to eagles fans and should keep you mouth shut since I know good and d@#n well you all will be hanging on McNabb's n#$ sack when he retires. Idiots all of you!!!

T.O. was the Eagles best shot at a Superbowl. I don't think they will get there with this team either. I dn' think it was too much of a big deal giving him what he was asking for. Most players would call it a season if they broke their ankle. The team didn't care that much when he put his playing career on the line to come back and help the team win. They only cared when he wanted to be compensated for after he did it. Typical cheapness of the organization. THAT is why Philly is a long way off from being a Championship Franchise.

I loved when T.O. was here but he blew it himself and it was not McNabb's fault. T.O. was fine after the Super Bowl, then momey-hungry rosenhaus got him to fire his agent. The T.O. all of a sudden wants a reworked contract, why because drew gets no commission off of the old one. Then, Mcnabb is supposed to be his friend and the idiot T.O. makes the throw up in the Superbowl comment. Then he keeps talking and talking and talking and talking and it just got jacked up. Had he shut his face and just played, he may have been offered more anyway. so lonewolf, Mcnabb wasn't jealous T.O. acted like a stupid Alabama porch monkey. I still would take him back if he shut up!

Yes he has talent-no one can dispute that-but the behavioral problems make him more trouble than he's worth. Can all the teams he's been at be wrong? I doubt it. Maybe if he didn't have all the media, his attention-seeking behavior would go away. But I doubt it. Let Buffalo have him-I give him one year there if they are lucky.

Wow. Lots and lots of revisionist history here. T.O. started the whole mess. All his fault. Completely and entirely. He said and did horrible things for one reason and one reason only: more money, ego and more money. And ego. As for the tired old argument that we'd have a ring by now if we kept him: the Cowboys kept saying that, too.

We have never seen the type of football we saw in '04, not before and not after...at least not yet, maybe in a year or two when Jackson and Maclin are both seasoned vets, and thats as long as 5 is still here...either way you spin it, T.O. is a great WR, but there is obviously something wrong with him...I mean San Fran, Baltimore, Philly, now dallas...this is a trend not a coincidence

Let's see now. TO blew up the Niners. TO blew up the Eagles. TO blew up the girls. And now he wants us to go back and look at the stats? The only scary part of any of this is that some of you nit-wits want the guy back. The problem with TO has NEVER been the numbers he puts up. The only reason he gets any consideration at all is because of the numbers. If it wasn't for that, he'd just be another Freddie Mitchell. The guy's a cancer and you should all know it.

T.O. was a perfect fit for Eagles on football field and any who says otherwise are lying to themselves. But he has been own worst enemy and it has displayed through his team hopping and suicide attempt. He needs professional help, but he refuses to take it. Reed would have taken care of him, like he takes care of his sons with chemical dependencies. T.O. refuses to accepted his limitations in personal life and it makes you wonder how much better he could have been if he worked on his limitation.

How many SB trips did T.O. had since leaving Eagle? Zero. How much money did he have since leaving Eagle? Way more than most NFL receivers. What is he missing in NFL carrier? A SB ring. T.O. should have throught about these consequences before he started bad mouthing the team that gave him the best chance to win SB year in year out and more than enough money. Ealges are taking care of DM, they would have taken care of TO.

Don't want him and don't need him. People like T.O. are a cancer, they kill all the good in a team after a while, so the good he did one year was not worth the bad he did the following year. Past behavior is a barometer for future behavior.

Should have made T.O. happy. We would have a Lombardi Trophy by now in this city. Cowboys have 5, Giants and Redskins have 3 each. Eagles...zero. NFC East bridesmaid...as always.

His year here was awesome. That offense wrapped up 1st place in 14 games. He beat down the Ravens, had that sick game against the Browns. No better receiver in Eagles history based on one year alone. You couldn't realistically expect him to repeat that performance. McNabb still would have gotten hurt, and there'd have been no Garcia. Who would have thrown him the ball? He's a lot older now. He had decent numbers in Dallas but he was nowhere near the impact player he was in SF and then here. Had the Eagles kept him (and paid him) there'd still be some other antics. He just can't help himself. Would is performance been worth it? Dallas didn't think so.

lonewolf ur and idiot lol.... Did you really try to throw Steve Young into the discussion lmao... T.O. played with Steve Young how many seasons? and won how many sb's with him. Your so delusional I can't believe it lol. T.O played at the beginning of his carrer with Steve way after he had already sealed his place in the HOF. What the h@ll was he gonna say to Young. Thats like Donald Brown trying to tell LT how to run the ball in the NFL lol... Granted T.O. is stupid I dont think even he would be dumb enough to come in as a rookie and talk about one of the quarterbacks of all time. N I think you are just as stupid for even bringing that up. You should move to Dallas n stay of the philly websites all together cause you sir are an idiot!!!

I finally agree with something Lonewolf has to say...that is, of course, until he started his typical "time to bash McNabb" rant. He is a 5 time pro bowler and he and McNabb did have something special. Brady had Moss but he also had Welker, the Super Bowl MVP and one of the best offensive lines ever assembled. McNabb had T.O. and .....L.J. Smith? He is crazy but crazy still catches touchdown passes. They should have paid him.

Donovan Mcnabb has never had a solid WR core to throw to until T.O showed up. Once he had a premier WR to throw to, we made it further than we ever have with him at the helm. His success with what he had to work with, is outstanding overall. Philly fans, like myself, are fanatical when it comes to the birds and we don't step back to see the amount of success he has brought to our city; we expect too much. With Jackson, Maclin, Celek, Curtis, Avant and Ingrim, I believe we have the BEST core we've ever had for Donnie. Young, fast, aggressive, and motivated. Not to mention weaver is familiar with a west coast offense, and was a TE in college(good hands for the flats and he can truck for runs or blocks on the goal line and/or 3rd and shorts). If we don't win within the next 2 years, we never will.
