Source: Dick Vermeil played a role in Reid to Chiefs
It is a well known fact that Andy Reid and Dick Vermeil are good friends. The two former Eagles coaches have been known confide in one another, and it wouldn't be a stretch to consider Vermeil as a mentor of sorts for Reid.
So should it come as a big surprise that the Chiefs, a team Vermeil coached from 2001-2005, are close to naming Reid their next coach?
A source close to the situation confirmed that Vermeil has in fact been in touch with the Chiefs about Reid as recently as Tuesday. The source also said that Reid reached out to Vermeil to discuss the Chiefs organization, and whether or not it would be a good fit for him.
With how rapidly the talks are progressing, it can be assumed that Vermeil thinks this would be a good union.
There have also been reports that hiring Reid would mean the end for Chiefs general manager Scott Pioli, potentially allowing Reid to reunite with former Eagles GM Tom Heckert. However, Heckert may not be a deal-breaker for Reid, according to the same ESPN.com report.
