Sims beats the drum for pit bulls, Vick

New Eagles linebacker Ernie Sims loves dogs, especially pit bulls.

That love was clear when he hosted his first pit bull parade in Leon County, Fla. The event drew several hundred people and dozens of dogs.

"It's a different kind of love," he told WCTV. "I've got love for my mom. I've got love for my wife, but all those loves are different than the love I have for an animal. It's almost like they're helpless and always so kind and gentle. And they're always happy to see me. That's what I love about them."

Of course, the Eagles' most prominent connection to dogs at the moment is quarterback Michael Vick. Sims said he hopes to work with Vick on animal issues.

"I really want to get on the same page with him and assure the pit bull community that he really is trying to help our breed and what he did is in the past."

Vick electrocuted and drown helpless dogs and hung them from a tree for enjoyment. Jeffrey Lurie said Vick's actions were horrific and dispicable, yet Lurie said he was giving Vick one last chance last year and Lurie said he would have ZERO TOLERANCE.....now after Vick's dog killing partner was shot at Vick's party by another felon and ex-con...Lurie will keep his promise and fire Vick.

They will hold on to Vick until the end of training camp, hoping that another QB goes down somewhere, and they can move Vick.

Vick doesn't want to be here. Why keep a player that draws so much heat and clearly doesn't want to be here. What's the point? Why do we need to have soap operas with this team year after year after year. Its embarrassing. McNabb is gone. Owen is long gone. I really can't wait 'til Vick is gone. I'm hoping Jackson can show some self-control. Just play ball without the extra nonsense.

When will a fellow player speak up against Michael Vick instead of "getting on the same page" with him or giving him courage awards? I'm still waiting for someone with some guts to call it like it is.

Vick is gone as soon as another club cuts a guy who could be a viable back-up for Kolb. He never sees another regular season game as an Eagle.

the problem is also, who really knows (other than his gf, Lone Wolf) - how capable/good Kolb is for an entire NFL season? Not that this version of Vick (heck the old version wasn't a "master QB") is "the gold standard" (I couldn't resist), but he has a lot more experience than Kolb and some amazing athletic instincts (still?) ...I have to believe he's still got value here in Philly. Get over the dog thing, it was heinous, but it is a debt that has been paid.

He was lacking as a "dog owner" and is lacking as a QB.

Bill69, you said " DID HE SHOOT ANYONE?". I believe that's what they are investigating. Because he left before the shooting does NOT mean he wasn't involved and if Vick WAS involved in any way he should be banned for life and go back to jail. It's that simple.

tpizza he has been clear of any wrong doing the police said he is not a person of interest, so he should be left alone to play football, and i agree with mebphila, he paid his debt GET OVER IT

I would love to see this mistake purged. I feel like we will all feel better coming clean and starting the Kolb Era with a clear conscience, plus the guy is a waste.
