Robert Griffin III discusses February meeting with Andy Reid, possibility he could have been on Eagles

The Eagles evaluated quarterbacks at February's NFL Scouting Combine and were intrigued enough with the possibility of Robert Griffin III that they met with the former Baylor quarterback, who was a surefire top two pick. The Eagles were armed with draft picks as ammunition to trade higher into the draft, but it was unlikely the could match the offers that ultimately yielded the No. 2 pick, including the three first-round picks and a second-round pick that Washington surrendered.

"I met with the Eagles and coach Reid told me they were very interested in me and you never know what can happen," Griffin III said. "I really enjoyed my meeting with them. But obviously things didn't work out and I'm here with the Redskins. I'm proud to be here."

The Eagles spent a third-round pick on Nick Foles, who will be the sixth rookie to start at quarterback this season. Griffin III and Foles spent time with each other at the Combine.

Eagles coach Andy Reid said the team knew they were taking a quarterback, so they met with many of them. But Griffin III did not consider the Eagles a possibility until that meeting. Reid said Wednesday that the Eagles weren't in a position to be picking him, but "we wanted to see what he was all about; I liked what I saw."

"I think that was the first time that I thought that they were even thinking about drafting me or moving up to pick me," Griffin III said. "Other than that, I tried to keep an open mind so wherever I went, I'd be happy."
