Following up on my post from Saturday, there appear to be three nominations from MTC readers for what the Eagles' best move of the offseason was.

Revisiting the Eagles' best offseason move

POSTED: Monday, May 17, 2010, 10:07 AM

Just got back from D.C. to see 90 comments and several e-mails about Saturday's post that focused on the Eagles' best offseason move.

There appeared to be three moves that MTC readers thought warranted consideration:

1. The trade for LB Ernie Sims

As I said when they traded for him, I have seen very little of Sims during his four seasons with the Lions. But many of you seem to like what you've seen, read or heard about the Eagles' new linebacker. As I've mentioned before, I thought Akeem Jordan was very good at the WILL linebacker position early last season before he got injured. I'll have to get a good look at Sims before agreeing that dealing for him was the Birds' best offseason move. But since I'm projecting Brandon Graham and Nate Allen, it's fair for you to disagree and project Sims.

2. Shaking up the coaching staff

This was an interesting one. I'm not sure anything could better illustrate what an unusual offseason it's been than many of you nominating the additions of secondary coach Dick Jauron and special teams coach Bobby April as the best offseason moves. Don't get me wrong. I like those additions too. April has a great reputation, and I don't think it ever hurts to add an assistant like Jauron with head coaching experience. But given the dramatic roster turnover, I couldn't go with this one. If Jauron's able to get this secondary to overachieve, and if April's special teams unit is responsible for a couple wins, I'll admit I'm wrong.

3. Handing the keys over to Kolb

Thought I explained this one the first time around. While I thought the Eagles made the right move in beginning the Kevin Kolb era, they did not receive overwhelming compensation for Donovan McNabb. That's why I did not choose this one. And although I'm comfortable with banking on Kolb's potential, he's a relative unknown with just two starts under his belt. It's impossible to argue otherwise.

By the way, having spent the weekend in D.C., I got plenty of questions about McNabb, and I think they led to some moments of clarity. I'll share more on Monday.

Hahahhahahaa! TKIMS, you're a loser! Hhhahahahaa!

I think TKIMS is Wilma McNabb. Even if Kolb has the SAME performance of McNabb in his last few years of decline, it's a better move because guys like Celek and Jackson seem happier.

Friggin, you've overstated the obvious about TKIMS. I wonder if he got no attention, maybe he'd just go away, annoying as he is. On topic now, I read somewhere that Kolb forced the FO's hand to either start him (read: pay him) or he was going to test the FA market and the FO weighed the pros and cons and KK won. It does not need mentioning that Reid lied thru his teeth to us after Dallas, when he said "#5 is my QB next year". He'll have no scapegoat now with all his chips on KK.

...and puh-leeeze, enuf about Vick starting when KK looks like he's going south. We all know Reid is now married to KK, just like he was to Mc5 when he was under center.

Another comment stemming from my debate in the Flyers chat... McNabb Career: 29,320 yards - 58.9% completion - 194 TD - 90 INT - 86.5 QB rating Jeff George Career: 27,602 yards - 57.9% completion - 154 TD - 113 INT - 80.4 QB rating. To this point...McNabb's career numbers are only SLIGHTLY better than Jeff George's, George only started 10 games or more 8 times, and McNabb has started 10 games or more 9 times. Just saying...

You sound like a idiot. The Eagles dominated the division the whole decade but you compare McNabb to Jeff George. I love it. Keep it coming. If you thought what 5 did to the Ari & Dallas after he was benched wait till he gets around to the Eagles and their front runner fans and media. I for one can't wait till the season starts. Remember we were a playoff team so anything less is a failure!

Hey Dan, Just Saying. Here are Elway's stats from his first 10 years. 54.42 completion percentage, 30,216 yards(Elway's one advantage), 158 td, 152 int, 72.9 QB rating. To this point... McNabb's numbers are a lot better than John (I can't win without Terrell Davis or I don't want to play in Baltimore) Elway. By the way, John had lost 3 Super Bowls up to this point. How do you think Philly Fans would have felt if McNabb had lost 3??? How ya like dem Apples!!!

McNabb was very good last season and was one season removed from a Confernce Championship game where he played well enough to win. The D let them down that day and Curtis dropped a 4th down pass where there was interference that wasn't called. I am fine with moving on to Kolb. But, Kolb better be very good if there is going to be any improvement from McNabb.

uh no, that pass to kevin curtis was a bullet to his knee cap. you dont see brady, manning, or other elite QB's throwing crappy passes like that. McNabb missed a WIDE OPEN throw the play before that too. McNabb was average at best in that ARI game and Reids playcalling was horrible. you cant expect the D to shutdown a hall of fame QB with two of the best WR"s in the game twice in one season. They did it the first game, but the 2nd game they needed the O to do thier part and they didnt. as for comparisons to jeff george I agree completely, the only differnce is when Mcnabb was younger he made flashly plays which the national media fell in love with. besides that his numbers arent that great. really his numbers are almost identical to jason campbells or Gerrards if you simulate for them to play as many seasons as McNabb. Thats about how good he is, good but not great. thats it. he just had some flashy plays that people remember and think hes so great, but hes not that impressive overall.

He is gone.... get over it. Are you a birds fan our a McNabb fan? Lament the move all you want, but Montana, Favre, Steve Young, Esiason, just to name a quick few all were moved by their teams. It happens and for Aaron Rodgers it was the right move for favre to go. Who knows if Kolb is the same talent. But to argue productivity or stats is stupid. The Eagles havent won a title since 60. McNabb had 11 chances, it didnt happen. Why, who cares? Wr, choking, accuracy, def, fat coach too much chunky soup... whatever... NO RING, 11 years.... next please.

Dan - why don't you throw Aikman into that mix and let me know what you think. It's not always about stats, ya know.

EaglesBleedMoney.....Aikman has 3 Superbowl rings, which is why I am not throwing him into the mix. And here is what I have to say about Elway "at the same point of his career"....Elway was regarded as a good to very good talent, but not great because of the 0-3 Superbowl record, and there was debate about his legacy until he did find Terrell Davis and win the Superbowls, at which time the debate stopped and his legacy as a great was cemented. Even if McNabb does follow Elway's later career arc, he still won't be giving any rings to Philadelphia, so who cares.

Thank you for proving my point Dan :) "It's not always about stats, ya know."
