The Eagles reportedly will add to their coaching staff in what could be another sign that Jim Johnson will not be able to return as defensive coordinator.

The Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported Saturday that former Dallas Cowboys defensive coordinator Brian Stewart will join the Eagles staff, with an announcement possible this coming week.

Stewart was fired by the Cowboys in the staff purge that followed the Eagles' victory over the Cowboys in the final game of the regular season.

Sean McDermott, who was the Eagles secondary coach, has been handling the defensive coordinator chores while Johnson battles cancer. Johnson was not on the field for the Eagles' last round of workouts. Stewart has experience coaching defensive backs. He and Eagles coach Andy Reid also worked together years ago at Northern Arizona. Aside from any previous connection, Stewart would have recent knowledge of Cowboys personnel and defensive schemes.

Below is the link to the Star-Telegram story.

Like we need cheats on their Defensive scheme. Here's to praying that JJ gets through this. At this point it's not about coaching the Eagles.

I would hope its way to soon to think about replacing Jim,if they feel they need to this guy is the worst choice, hes not even close to running a D the way Jim does, this defence is doomed with a guy like him.Tey should go after a guy like Kiffen in tenn. His son wont be there long,he is the closest to J.J. in running a defence

I really hope they don't name Stewart as the new defensive coordinator. The Dallas D stunk. Hopefully he's being hired as an assistant.

All of those great d coordinators we let walk out the door, that are now coaching teams. 1st Gruden (i'd put his playbook against Marty's)and now another example of letting a problem fester till its hurts the team. Get well JJ!

Apparently Stewart used to work under Big Red at Northern Arizona University. This makes me nervous because it appears he hired him because he knew him not because of his crudentials. Stay strong JJ !!

this dude isnt comin in to run the D...if JJ cant do it Mcdermott's the guy...theres nothing wrong w/ adding a lil experience to the staff while JJ recovers..not only that but he gives us an edge on the cowgirls...he used to run their D and he knows the personnell and what they like to call in certain situations..

Some of these posts are the reasons that blogs are worthless most of the time... "We shouldn't have let Gruden and other d coordinators go and we let the problem fester until it hurt the team". Are you serious? Our coordinator has cancer and we have a valuable back-up in McDermott like the previous ones who have left for their own coordinator jobs. And for the idiot that says we should go after Kiffin, did you not see what happened to Tampa last year over the last 5 games? Do you not think the father wants to work with his son? Did you not follow what happened in Oakland with the Kiffins? We are simply hiring an assistant to fill the role of McDermott in case JJ can't return. If he does, then so what, we have another assistant. Get well JJ, this is more than a football issue but I fear the worst and hope for the best.
