In Wednesday's Daily News, Les Bowen will offer his midseason grades by position for the Eagles. Here is his take on the coaching:

This team should be at least 6-2 right now, probably 7-1 and cruising.

The fact that it isn’t I put right at the feet of Andy Reid.

The shortcomings remain the same: Not enough balance in the offense most days, inability to adjust on the fly, poor time management. Reid deserves credit, of course, for assembling a group that might be capable of being 7-1, a youngish bunch that has a future, even if that future comes with Kevin Kolb running the show. For that reason, if the Eagles make the playoffs, Reid will get, and probably deserves, a contract extension.

But we’re handing out a midseason coaching grade, and Reid is responsible for the coordinators and position coaches, since he hired them. Moise Fokou doesn’t know he can’t cut-block during an interception return? Jeremiah Trotter can’t just step right onto the field after nearly a 2-year layoff and cover a tight end deep? You often need a timeout to transition in or out of the Wildcat?

Grade: C-

Les, stfu. We finish with ANOTHER, winning season with a team that can get to the NFCCG, AGAIN. Potentially, a SB.

The problem is Andy has never had to step out of his comfort zone. He has been allowed to operate unchecked for far too long, resulting in the same mistakes being repeated over his tenure. Look Andy is very talented, and we don’t need to kick him to the curb; however, their needs to be a dramatic change in the organization. Andy can’t be the Head Coach and GM; he needs to one or the other.

C-? Maybe overall, but you have to give him an F- in close games -- like the kind of games that they will see in the playoffs. Who is really satisified that the Eagles can trounce bad teams and then lay eggs as the pressure mounts? Answer: Losers.

A C- and no Super Bowls after a decade, and Reid deserves a contract extension? Ridiculous. No mention of McNabb, the man most responsible for the Eagles losing close game after close game, when you talk about shortcomings? Doubly ridiculous.

Way too harsh of a grade. Year after year, Andy keeps this team competitive. You can't say that about other coaches in the league. You knock on the door long enough, eventually it opens

I THINK THE PLAYERS SHOULD TAKE 90% OF THE BLAME FOR BEING A INAFFECTIVE TEAM AS A WHOLE.COACH REID TAKES THE BLAME,BUT HES NOT ON THE FIELD,HE'S CALLING THE PLAYS LIKE HE'S SUPPOSE TO.

Hopefully, this is Andy McReid's and Dunno McChoke's last season here.

The problems facing the Eagles right now are easily correctable; first you need an offensive coordinator that can manage the offensive side of the ball, clock, and the last two minutes of the game. This person has to be quick on his feet and a proven track record of running a successful offense. Second, you need an experienced GM that will not allow Andy to get away with the same nonsense; lack of a running game, clock management, and neglecting the RB, LB & TE position. Finally, you need to develop a QB to replace McNabb.

This franchise should have stuck with Kolb from day one of this season and shipped McNabb off. He's been way too erratic and I don't think we're ever going to get the job done with him at the helm. I think it would have made sense to completely start fresh with Kolb running the show alongside our other youngsters. Time to insert a QB who can hit his receivers in stride and who's willing to take the hit even if it means making that game-changing last second pass.

Reid is best coach in Eagles history and coming of a great season in 2008. Until in he screws up for 2-3 years in a row he always gets A. Cowher won SB in his 12 years as well. Moronic haters on this board are just extension of the writers.

Hey Zeppelin. Who drafts, signs and coaches the players you think don't perform? Think it might be the fat man? Why does he get a pass in your misguided mind?

Reid does not control who gets injured on the field and he does not determine how quickly young players mature. Just a reminder, New England is 6-2 with a loss against JETS :-) All other top 3 teams from last year don't have any better result than Eagles. Get real and relax... morons!!

had the eagles had a slightly more balanced attack against the cowboys and raiders the eagles would be 7-1 right now...there needs to be more checks and balances as far as andy reid...their needs to be a real GM in place and a much better offensive co-ordinator...mcnabb takes the blame 4 all the close losses but he is not allowed to call his own plays in the eagles 2 minute offense..when a team looses a game by 4 pts or less you gotta blame the coach and 2 of the eagles 3 losses were by 1 and 4pts respectively....so a C grade is about right........

Les BowenLes Bowen has covered the Eagles for the Daily News since 2002. Before that, he spent nearly 13 years covering the Flyers. It took Les only a few seasons after the switch to figure out that there was no penalty box at the Linc, and that the time really wasn't his, despite what Andy Reid kept saying. Les came to Philadelphia and the Daily News from Charlotte in 1983. In the intervening years, he has pretty much lost track of NASCAR, and his accent. He, his wife Barbara, and their two sons live in Haddon Township, New Jersey. E-mail Les at bowenl@phillynews.com and follow him on Twitter.

For the last 10 years, he’s been a selector for the Pro Football Hall of Fame. A native of Wilkes-Barre and a graduate of Wilkes University, Domo started his career in Texas, working first for the Midland Reporter-Telegram (1976-78), and then for the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, where he covered some god-awful Texas Ranger baseball teams. His first beat at the Daily News actually was boxing, which he covered just long enough to lose 2 sports coats to blood spatter before moving on to football.
