Reid talks win, Vick, McCoy and more

POSTED: Friday, December 3, 2010, 12:18 AM

Here are highlights from Andy Reid's postgame press conference:

Winston Justice has an MCL sprain and will have an MRI on Monday.

On why Max Jean-Gilles started at right guard: "I thought maybe we could give Nick a little rest on his knee and get him back fresh after a few days."

Overall: "I’m proud of the guys for pushing through, particularly on a short week and doing a good job. We had some highs and we had some lows. We have a lot of things we can learn from. We did better in the red zone, which is a plus … All in all, it was a good game … They are a heck of a team and explosive players on both sides of the ball."

On the challenge: "Our guys showed it on our board. I was able to get it from upstairs and down below. It didn’t look like his knee had touched when he spun. That’s a tough call for the official. It ended up working out in our favor."

On Vick: "He got knocked around a little bit. They have a real good defensive front. He got backed up and kept going. I loved his energy in the second half. Both sides of the ball he was firing them up. I thought he brought a lot to the table."

On Vick’s sliding: "I saw him go down tonight. Even though it was headfirst, he went down. I’m going to take that as a positive."

On a message being sent: "This is all about our team. We win as a team and we lose as a team. I thought collectively we played very well tonight. We worked through some adversity."

On the fourth quarter: "I think the guys just rallied … Professional athletes and coaches, when they really put their mind to something it normally gets done. We were a little embarrassed last week and thought we could have played well. Everybody just put their mind to it and there was a lot of positive energy during the tough times."

On Jason Peters vs. Mario Williams: Jason, you are talking about one of the best tackles in the National Football League. I’m partial. He answers the bell every week. He’s very consistent and did a nice job.

On McCoy not getting the ball after a fast start: We probably had five or six calls to him. They either doubled on him or Michael had pressure on him and had to run. That’s how it goes. His number was dialed up quite a bit. You get a little attention when you strike early like that.

How about...."Why does the defense keep getting torched on 3rd and long, and do you see this being a continued problem?"

This game really shouldn't have even been close but a win is a win. That defense is really struggling.

The Eagles have the NFL's worse red zone defense. Other teams score TD's at an alarming 77.4% rate. That percentage is the worse in the NFL since 1988. You figure out who to blame.
Penalties. W.T.F. 11 or 12 that were applied and 3 or 4 more declined. This is week after week after week. This time it cost us a TD on the opening kickoff, and another on a 5yd. defensive offsides that gave them a 3rd and 2 instead of a dropped pass and the ball back that turned into a TD drive. When a team is this undiciplined there's only 1 person to blame. Sorry Reid, but if the team is still shooting themselfs in the foot after week 12 you're the problem, not them.
And passing the ball on 3rd and long with 2:54 to go while Houston has no time outs is just plain moronic. And either you or Morhingweg are moronic! Probably both. You have a history of simple time mismanagement and that hasn't changed either. Again, refer back to that moronic thing.

I've got to stop reading these comments. Your negative attitude towards this team is unbelievable. They are a very young team. Young team's make more mistakes. The defensive coordinator only in his second year and he is young. Let them learn. Reid will find replacements if they don't learn. Plus the Eagles are 8-4 and in first place in the East.

The question about not getting the ball after fast start was in reference to DeSean Jackson, not McCoy. The Iggles may be 8-4, but without double digit penalties, horrible clock management and a stubborn refusal to run the ball in the red zone game after game, they could easily be 9-3, or even 10-2 and in line for playoff bye and maybe home field advantage throughout. Young players may get a pass, but the coaches don't.

I don't think we run the ball more in the red zone because McCoy is not as good running between the tackles as he is on the edges....

Jerome Harrison did nothing but run inside last year with the Browns in their closing games...He is good at it because he is short and gets lost amoung the big guys...he is also much bigger in his upperbody then shady and can stand the hits a little better.

dedhed -- you are aptly named. Hate to spoil your fun, but the eagles won and they are in first place. You probably didn't notice that. So who's the moron?

Cannot believe we are at 8-4 and in first place. As DeSean says, skys the limit!! Bring on Dallas!
