Reid: Vick has rib cartilage injury, no broken bones

POSTED: Monday, October 4, 2010, 12:40 PM

Which injury had you most concerned on Sunday?
Carlos Ruiz’s elbow
J.C. Romero’s back
LeSean McCoy’s ribs
Michael Vick’s ribs

Michael Vick has a rib cartilage injury between his second and third rib and his status this week is uncertain. LeSean McCoy broke a rib and may also be unavailable.

On Vick, Reid said, "The cartilage looks like it's cracked there a little bit." He said the bones were not broken.

Vick was sore today, Reid said, and is going to be "day to day, week to week."

"If he is as sore as he is today," then Kevin Kolb will be with the first team for Wednesday's practice, Reid said.

"We'll see how (Vick) feels and how he does along the way," Reid said.

Reid said Kolb "did some good things and has some things he has to work on."

McCoy cracked a rib in the second quarter, Reid said. The running back played the rest of the game, and Reid said it is possible he could play Sunday.

"It's really a comfort thing and they're doing a couple other tests on him," Reid said.

He said the team is fortunate to have Mike Bell as a back up, though Bell has made little impact in his few appearances so far this season.

Reid continued to take the blame for the delay of game penalty at the end of the first half, though he also implied that he was unhappy with the referees.

"It’s completely my responsibility there," Reid said to open his press conference. But later, when asked what he might have done differently, he said, "I would love to tell you everything, but I'm not going to do that, that would be an expensive answer."

He added, "I'm taking it as my fault."

Reid also took the blame for his team's penalties -- roughly 80 yards per game, including several costly ones Sunday.

"I take a lot of pride in having a disciplined, hard nosed football team and eight penalties for 80 yards is obviously too much," Reid said.

Asked specifically about $60 million signing Jason Peters, who now has five penalties after adding two Sunday, Reid deflected a question about being disappointed.

"He's working his tail off, that's the first thing. These aren't penalties that are loafing penalties or he's s not moving his feet, or he's tired, that's not what these are," Reid said. He later added, "If he weren't trying hard and didn't have the effort there might be disappointment there."

if i said i have to do a better job as much as reid, i would have been replaced several times over at this point. i actually think marty m. is the biggest problem. he is not a winner.

Fatman has to put himself in better position to call timeouts. But when you're morbidly obese it's hard to put yourself anywhere. The man's a genius - gives up 2 draft choices who could've had about 3 years in for the qb of the future. Now the qb of the future doesn't have trade value, and Dog Skull Smasher knows it, and will up his demands. Next year Fatman has who will probably turn out to be a career backup for one year, no talented psychopath and then what beyond that? It's obvious the man's a genius. Watch baseball to see a real, not self-proclaimed, gold standard.

Is it me or is the NFL just a horrible product? Technology has killed the game...

ZZZZZZzzzzz I hate reruns. Wake me up when theres something new to hear. Reid taking the blame for everything once again. Been there done that, move on. New coach please. Jason Peters was a stud, then he came here and the only thing he'll be leading the league in is holding penalties just like last year. Thank God for the Phillies.

mrsmax - based on ur comment i think it is safe to say you are an idiot. Stick to baking pies please. Vick is a QB and needs to be able to throw, McCoy is a running back. Like comparing apples to oranges with that kind of injury. We still should have won the game, too bad Kolb is a bad QB...with $12 million to boot.

Karma? Perhaps...or perhaps Karma would be for Andy Reid demand Vick to play and if Vick plays next go against the 49ers and if they are loosing at the half, then Reid should take Vick into the locker room, water him down, then electrocute him...and that would be the last we hear of Mick Vick...

I'm from Atlanta. I support this paper and follow Vick. To me, the Vick haters are dogs, two legged dogs that support the world's racists that order four-legged dogs to attack women, children and babies. Blog about that!

Brandon Graham was unstoppable in college and training camp but is now ineffective due to the D scheme or D line coaching. He shows no moves and has effectively been castrated. mcdermott does not know how to use Graham. If we had Clay Matthews we would see the same negative results. Fire mcdermott.

Face it. Yesterdays game was played by 2 sub par teams. The difference was one team asserted control in the run game and the other did not.. Times yours...

What kind of explanation did Reid give. Cartilage is torn and not cracked. Which one is it with Vick torn cartilage or a cracked rib like McCoy? Unless McCoy is wearing a flack jacket, I can't see him playing. If the Eagles can't get Garcia, I wonder if it is possible to sign and suit up Marcus Vick, who is even a younger version of his brother. I don't think that it would take to much effort to look better than Kolb or Kafka.

Cartilage damage can be worst than a cracked rib...Dr Max. The run that hurt Vick was simply awesome, so we should hope that he's back next wk.

Nice article, Tamari, but you wouldn't notice it from these comments. Honestly, I think the website should screen comments not only for lack of civility and use of foul language, but also for blatant idiocy.

Andy was an OL in his day---Juan Castillo is the so-called 'best' OL coach in the biz---and we pay top dollar for Andrews Bros and JPeters---sure looks like poor investment strategies. But wait ---there is King Dunlop and Austin Howard waiting to take over---a 7th rounder and an UFA-----unbelievable!

That's a relief. He'll miss a couple weeks at most. Just glad nothing is broken.

McCoy breaks a rib and finishes the game. Vick has a cartilage injury and spends the second half whimpering.

Things that make you go hmmm...
McNabb lobby's for Vick to have a second chance...Vick "pays" him back with a win. Agree with it or not...quite laudible. What's one game amongst friends for a renewed NFL career...hmm.
Oh..I'm a McNabb fan, but "game on" after his postgame comments. Especially after playing sooo subpar.
It's just a game right? Go Eagles and yes, go Greenbay next week!

It's always Andy's fault the day after a team is not prepared and doesn't execute...how about maybe addressing WHY this happens time and time again?

Did anyone else notice the four illegal blocks the Redskins got away with on the 50 yard punt return? The personal foul call on Sims, and the defensive hold on Hobbs, didn't help either. The refs were brutal. Good news is that Vick will not be out long, if at all.

Well, now Vick at least has more free time to devote to his reinvention tour where he tells kids that savagely torturing dogs for pleasure is just "a bad idea".

Undersized players equals soft play which is what we will see all year until we stop getting undersized players with "high motors".
