Reid climbs Lehigh hill

BETHLEHEM, Pa. -- If you were at Eagles training camp and happened to be driving up the road in between the team’s practice fields and Lehigh University’s campus Monday afternoon, you many have spotted a man dressed in black with a bushy mustache climbing the hill.

And you may have asked yourself, “Was that Andy Reid?”

News flash: It was.

The familiar sight of Reid walking off the fields after practice and into a chauffeured SUV was replaced by one of the Eagles coach bypassing the black vehicle and walking the two-mile stretch in between the fields and the dorms where the Eagles are staying.

Reid has lost a considerable amount of weight this offseason. He apparently scaled the hill during one of his first camps at Lehigh and wanted to see if he still had the wheels to get it done again.

Sources close to the situation said he was successful.

Reid made the trek with Eagles scout Brett Veach, his former on-field assistant.

QUOTE OF THE DAY

David Culley was asked if DeSean Jackson has been hesitant going across the middle since his concussion against the Falcons two years ago. The wide receivers coach said that any hesitation seemed to come from the receiver’s concern about staying healthy in a contract year.

“Whatever things happened with him last year was more due to him, I think, trying to not get hurt as opposed to being scared going across the middle, because I never saw that in 2½ years,” Culley said.

PLAYER OF THE DAY

Cornerback Cliff Harris impressed in the first practice of training camp, intercepting two passes during team drills on Monday. Harris was making up for lost time after missing mini-camps because of Oregon’s academic calendar. One interception came on a deflected pass, while the other was a leaping catch on a deep pass.

Harris, an undrafted rookie, was an All-American for the Ducks in 2010 before legal issues disrupted his 2011 season and prompted his draft stock to plummet.

BIRD BRAINS

Temple product Kee-ayre Griffin was in uniform for the Eagles on Monday after signing on Sunday, although the cornerback wore two different uniforms. Griffin wore No. 41 in the morning session with his name on the back before a jersey malfunction prompted him to wear a nameless No 49 uniform in the afternoon. … A gust of wind blew a very large umbrella off one of the cranes that hold video recording equipment for the Eagles at camp. The very colorful Jim Washburn yelled, “Incoming!” as the runaway umbrella soared just over the heads of reporters and team scouts that were watching the afternoon practice. “I thought for a second that Mary Poppins was flying in,” the defensive line coach would later say.

Laurie's divorce settlement already having an affect on team expenses. No more free rides for Andy.

Good show, Andy. That's a decent hill for getting in shape.
