The Eagles' playoff victory over the Giants last season still has not been forgotten up the Turnpike. And the Birds' drubbing of the Giants at the Linc earlier this season has not helped matters.
Asked if the playoff loss still provides a spark, Giants wide receiver Steve Smith did not hesitate:
"Oh yeah, definitely," he said. "We had a great season last year and they ended our run in the playoffs. It was at home, too, and we definitely want to come out and set the tone at home and show that we are going to dominate this month at home."
Added linebacker Michael Boley: "Big game. It’s another division game. Our next two games are division games, so they are all important. Especially after the way we went up there the first game and they kind of put it on us pretty bad."
The Eagles are going for their first season sweep of the Giants since 2004. The Birds have been very good late in the season under Andy Reid and that has included December wins over New York in each of the last three seasons.
That too has not been forgotten, Smith said.
"Yeah, of course. Any time you lose, especially to a team in your conference, it is tough and it hurts," he said. ".I think guys are going to remember that and are going to come out and play our butts off."
The Eagles face the Giants on Sunday, then play out of division games against San Francisco and Denver before closing the season at Dallas.
Asked about the division race, coach Andy Reid said Monday: “I think it’ll be knockdown, drag-out all they way through. I think both of them will be heavyweight fights, both good football teams.”
VICK IN VA.
The appearance wasa fund-raiser for Hill City Youth Football and Cheerleading Association. Before arriving at the restaurant, Vick spoke to children at the Jubilee Center in Lynchburg, a representative of the restaurant said.
“When I see him, I don’t see Michael Vick who just got out of prison,” fan Wanda Beverly told the Lynchburg News Advance. “I see him as an athlete who was so awesome that the scouts pre-empted his four years of college.”
