Packers coming to town
Rich Hofmann, Daily News Sports Columnist
Eagles coach Andy Reid, unwilling to risk an injury to a starting player in his team's meaningless finale against Dallas, played pretty much nobody. The final score was Cowboys 14, Eagles 13. Only fans of tedium were entertained.
But enough about the game.
The big news happened in other cities and another time zone -- the Giants beat the Redskins in their final game and the Packers beat the Bears in their's. As a result, the Eagles will host the Packers in the wildcard round of the playoffs next Sunday at 4:30 p.m.
There is nothing to be made of Sunday afternoon's season finale. Kevin Kolb didn't look very good at quarterback but the line in front of him looked even worse. As for the other side of the ball, the Eagles' defense actually looked pretty decent; of course, they were defending against the legendary Stephen McGee.
Not much to say here, really. Reid played this one just about as cautiously as is humanly possible. He has a long record of treating meaningless games in just this way -- but, then again, the teams he rested years ago were veteran groups, playoff-tested and much more predictable than this young group that played badly for 7 1/2 of the 8 quarters that preceded the Dallas game.
Now, after this annoying interlude, all eyes return to Michael Vick -- the single most critical Eagles player in the Andy Reid era.
This Eagles Team has to win 1 road game to get to the Super Bowl.
We will play NO at home in the Championship game have no doubt!!!!! slapback

False - in 2001 the week 17 game didn't matter and Reid rested the starters. Pretty young team, and the previous seasons was the first time the Eagles made the playoffs in few years (kinda similar to this Eagles team...)

The Eagles are one and done. Not a tough team, period. Teams like Pittsburgh and New England play teams they're supposed to destroy and that's what they do--the games are over by halftime. The Eagles play the freaking Vikings (who couldn't beat Detroit) and get HAMMERED on their home field. Sorry--I'm not drinking the Kool-Aid this year. green(withenvy)
The one main reason I think the Birdz can beat the Pack is that McCarthy is a bigger stoonad than AR on the sidelines. McCarthy is the only dolt in the NFL who manages his TOs worse than Andy and challenges plays worse than Andy.
Put up or shut up time Mike - you said in September if you had 4 quarters the Eagles would have won - well get your running shoes on - you're going to need them. The O-line is a mess. jhjack- This game is going to be fantastic. Over/under about 70! The Eagles can win a shoot-out against the Packers. GB barely beat the Bears today. They aren't getting anywhere near the Super Bowl. filzfan
