New Nike uniforms unveiled

POSTED: Tuesday, April 3, 2012, 12:13 PM

Amid gret fanfare today in Brooklyn, the NFL and Nike unveiled new uniforms for all 32 teams, except most of the new uniforms look remarkably similar to the old ones.

The Eagles will be wearing the same uniform, with the exception of the Nike insignia on the sleeve, replacing the Reebok logo. A team source said the new uniform reflects no change in the overall appearance.

The jerseys will go on presale April 15 and on sale April 26 and 27.

A new line of shirts, hats and other products was unveiled April 1 and have been on sale on the Eagles web site and elsewhere since April 1. What was once known as midnight green is now Nike green.

Each team had one player to model the uniforms during the ceremony. Michael Vick, a Nike rep, was there for the Eagles.

"The new NFL uniforms thru Nike are going to be crazy ...  Innovation at its finest!," he tweeted Monday night.

The biggest change is the Seattle Seahawks, who are going to be the Oregon or Baylor of the NFL. The team has the No. 12 on its jerseys, representing the 12th man, and a new color scheme that includes a feather image, for the Seahawks.

**

Some other notes:

* Expect the NFL preseason scheduled to be released tomorrow.

* Good news from Colt Anderson, whose season ended in surgery for a torn ACL. He tweeted: Ran for the first time on grass today with @proact and @BrentCelek. Felt good to be back on the fb field.

The twitter handle of @proatc is Eagles head athletic trainer Rick Burkholder.

agree Norm3...bring back kelly green. This midnight green with a sheen looks blue some light, and washed out in other light....
this is all about lurie wanting his (or his wife's) distinct color. He's made through luck and opportunism at least he can uphold the tradition which made him a billionaire.

The only thing crazy about this exact same uniform is Michael Vick shilling that they are crazy and innovative.

I'm just thrilled that it's not like the hack job they did on Seattle However, the Eagle on the sleeve has a certain angry attitude and that fits Philly

The most distinctive feature of Eagles unis is how clean they are at the end of the game.

Why change? We all know that if it weren't for the refs and the turnovers we would have won the Super Bowl last year.

Anyway, everthing about this franchise is milquetoast at this point...the uniforms, the dull stadium, the coaching staff, the roster...even the dopey mascot. Ugh.

I'd like a return to the Buddy Ryan era Kelly green with the Eagle in flight carrying a football logo on the sleeves. It honors past tradition while creating it's own. This current metallic dark green is just honoring Mrs Lurie's own personal taste and esthetic regarding a venerable old franchise.

On the other hand, changing to Kelly Green will not change current ownership, the current coaching staff and the overall attitude of these out of towners turned billionaires. Let those colors remain on standby until this bunch is gone or altered in a drastic way.

The only thing good about the dull Kelly Green the Eagles used to have is they won a World Championship in those colors. That was 51 years ago and changing back to those ugly uniforms will not bring another championship. The uniform today with the dark green is far better.

Well taste in color is subjective, not sure you need insults of fans' taste or age to indicate a preference. But then again some folks can't talk without using the word "suck" or "blows" or insulting other fans. That's more indicative of the type of fans that give the city a bad name, so I guess keep the unis teal to represent the "new age" crude fan.

I didn't think it was possible to make the Seattle uniforms sartorially duller, but they did. They must use a "washed-out color" wheel to select the home/road uniforms. You could watch their games in black-and-white and not know it.

The curse of Midnight Green becomes the curse of Nike Green. They won't ever win wearing those colors, not until they go back to the true Kelly Green and Silver!

I have despised these jerseys and logo with a passion since they started using them. It just didn't get any more classic or cleaner than the kind Cunningham, White, & company wore. I'll even settle for the 1960 plain janes over the midnight green they've sported for about 15 years now.

Two things the other three teams in our division have done over the years: 1) left their uniforms relatively unchanged over the years, 2) won a super bowl. It would be nice to see one if not both of those things changed.
