NFL Free Agency: Eagles re-sign P Donnie Jones, release S Patrick Chung
Free agency officially began in the NFL at 4 p.m. this afternoon, and the Eagles took about 45 minutes to make their first move.
The Eagles' first moves on Tuesday was re-signing punter Donnie Jones and releasing safety Patrick Chung.
Jones, 33, signed a three-year deal worth $6 million, according to a league source. Jones set Eagles single-season records with a 40.3-yard average on net punts and 33 punts downed inside the 20-yard line. The move was expected, as he needed to wait until the new league year to sign a deal for than the veteran minumum.

Chung, 26, signed with the Eagles on the first day of free agency last season, but he struggled as a starter. He started 10 games in an injury-riddled season and finished with 59 tackles. Chung was due $3.25 million this season, so the move was expected.
The Eagles carried as many as six safeties on the roster last season. They now have only two under contract: Earl Wolff and Keelan Johnson. Look for the Eagles to be aggressive adding safeties in the coming hours and days. and Cleveland signed Donte Whitner away from San Francisco, and the 49ers replaced Whitner with Antonie Bethea from Indianapolis.
