Mora withdraws name from Eagles/Broncos jobs

UPDATE:

If Jim Mora wants to get back into coaching, he's likely not doing it until after next season.

Mora withdrew his name from the Eagles and Broncos defensive coordinator job search, according to Jay Glazer of FOXSports.com, who spoke to the former Falcons and Seahawks coach.

Mora confirmed the report with the following text message: "While I appreciate the opportunities presented by Denver and Philadelphia, at this time it's just not the right fit."

Mora was considered a leading candidate for the Eagles opening. Despite reports that the job was Mora's if he wanted it, the Eagles never offered because negotiations were never in the "advanced stages," a source close to the situation said.

Mora spent the last year out of the NFL as an analyst for NFL Network. The 49-year-old has a relatively young family and resides in Seattle.

Former Eagles defensive coordinator Sean McDermott, meanwhile, was officially named the Panthers' new defensive coordinator.

FROM EARLIER:

It's either the Broncos or the Eagles for Jim Mora.

The former Falcons and Seahawks head coach wants to get back into coaching and has narrowed his choices down to two, a source close to the situation said.

Mora was in Denver yesterday to meet with new head coach John Fox about their defensive coordinator opening, but headed back to his home in Seattle without signing a contract. He is expected to interview with the Eagles but can't until coach Andy Reid returns from a vacation in Antigua later this week.

Reid and Mora have spoken informally about the Eagles' defensive coordinator vacancy, according to the source. But Mora wants to meet with the Eagles before making a decision.

And, of course, Reid has to decide if he wants to Mora to replace the recently-fired Sean McDermott. Eagles senior assistant Dick Jauron is also a candidate. He is currently in Cleveland interviewing for their defensive coordinator job.

Former Cardinals defensive coordinator Billy Davis has also been mentioned as a candidate, but an interview with the Eagles has not yet been scheduled.
