Michael Vick is slated to visit with the New York Jets on Friday, according to NFL sources.

The free agent quarterback has had a quiet week, but now that the market has been set Vick will meet with his first team since free agency opened last Tuesday. Marty Mornhinweg, who worked closely with the quarterback for four seasons with the Eagles, is in his second year as the Jets offensive coordinator.

Vick's scheduled visit was first reported by

Since the end of last season and even earlier after he lost his starting spot to Nick Foles, Vick has said that he wants to start again. Vick expressed his wishes to the Eagles after the season and the team told him that he wouldn't have that opportunity with Foles in the fold.

Both sides never closed the door on Vick staying in Philadelphia, and that remains a possibility, but the Jets may make more sense. The Jets and Vick have obvious mutual interest, but Vick isn't expected to rush a decision, a source close to him said.

Vick won't be handed a starting job in New York and probably won't even be brought in to compete with Geno Smith, but he would have greater chance of supplanting the second-year quarterback than Foles.

Jets coach Rex Ryan, after three straight seasons without a winning record, likely needs to show improvement if he's to stick around. Mornhinweg knows Vick well and was able to coax him into his best season in 2010. But Vick regressed in their last two seasons together.

Vick, who will turn 34 in June, has very few other options if he wants to start. The Raiders are a possibility. The Bills will likely begin the season with second-year quarterback E.J. Manuel as the starter. The Browns don't necessarily have a starter penciled in. The Titans could be looking for someone to hold Jake Locker's spot until he fully returns from injury.

And then there are the Eagles. Matt Barkley is currently the No. 2 quarterback to Foles. Do the Eagles feel comfortable enough with him backing up Foles after he struggled in two appearances last season? Whether it's Vick or a free agent like Colt McCoy, whoever the Eagles bring in to camp will give some indication of what they think of Barkley.
