Michael Vick suffered 'pretty significant' concussion, Nick Foles likely to start vs. Redskins

POSTED: Monday, November 12, 2012, 12:55 PM

Michael Vick has what coach Andy Reid termed a "pretty significant" concussion. Although Vick has not been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Washington Redskins, it appears like rookie Nick Foles will start his first game.

"We'll go through the protocol here, I'll just tell you it was a pretty good one," Reid said.

Reid believes the concussion happened on Vick's final snap. He said Vick was "a little foggy" on Sunday night.

"He's resting right now," Reid said. "This period, it's very important that he rests."

Reid said Vick will not practice on Wednesday. Foles will get the first-team snaps, and must work on the silent count in preparing to play in Washington.

"He did a nice job in keeping his eyes down the field when he was under the pressure," Reid said. "There were a couple plays he'd like to have back. I thought he got the ball out on time. He handled the pressure well when it was in his face."

Reid expects to know Vick's status within the next few days.

"What I'm tell you now is it's a significant concussion," Reid said.

**Jason Avant has a hamstring strain and likely won't play this week. Jeremy Maclin has a low back strain, and is "pretty sore" on Monday. There's no word yet for Sunday's game. Mardy Gilyard is making progress, but likely won't play this week. Running back Chris Polk is still sore with a turf toe.

**Danny Watkins might practice and play this week. Lateral cutting is the issue with him right now. If he does return, there's no word on other changes on the offensive line, but Dennis Kelly could slide over to tackle.

I like Vick alot as an athelete, a loyal player, a guy who tried his hardest and had one of the greatest sports comeback a year ago or so.... That being said Foles should get the job. I dont know what the time frame is on giving a qb that is struggling more time but i dont thin it is longer than you give a struggling coach that once had success. If you play foles you can atleast figure out if you need to draft a qb or an offensive tackel with your number one pick. Times yours....

defroe, I thought he played well too considering the circumstances. Yeah he was a tad late to Jackson on the P6 and that throw into the flats was scary but all in all it was a good start. He did just as drbob said and if not for Dumblop would have had them at the 2YL. The game was over by the time the fumble occurred but I was more interested to see how quickly Foles got the ball out anyway. Being 6-6 and throwing over the top is much better than 6-0 and throwing side armed ala Vick. If Foles can play it will make the new coach more successful quicker so I'm glad to see him get in there so he has a legit 7 game audition rather than having us go into the off season not knowing what he can do. That would mean guessing on him vs. drafting another QB or trying to outbid someone for a quality FA. Sorry to see Vick get hurt but I thought this would be the way it played out. Vick is gone next year so let the kid play. Lurie should insist on it.

Foles will be OK. Dunlap is the one who has to go! How does he hang on to his job?
