Michael Vick suffered 'pretty significant' concussion, Nick Foles likely to start vs. Redskins
Zach Berman
Michael Vick has what coach Andy Reid termed a "pretty significant" concussion. Although Vick has not been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Washington Redskins, it appears like rookie Nick Foles will start his first game.
"We'll go through the protocol here, I'll just tell you it was a pretty good one," Reid said.
Reid believes the concussion happened on Vick's final snap. He said Vick was "a little foggy" on Sunday night.
"He's resting right now," Reid said. "This period, it's very important that he rests."
Reid said Vick will not practice on Wednesday. Foles will get the first-team snaps, and must work on the silent count in preparing to play in Washington.
"He did a nice job in keeping his eyes down the field when he was under the pressure," Reid said. "There were a couple plays he'd like to have back. I thought he got the ball out on time. He handled the pressure well when it was in his face."
Reid expects to know Vick's status within the next few days.
"What I'm tell you now is it's a significant concussion," Reid said.
**Jason Avant has a hamstring strain and likely won't play this week. Jeremy Maclin has a low back strain, and is "pretty sore" on Monday. There's no word yet for Sunday's game. Mardy Gilyard is making progress, but likely won't play this week. Running back Chris Polk is still sore with a turf toe.
**Danny Watkins might practice and play this week. Lateral cutting is the issue with him right now. If he does return, there's no word on other changes on the offensive line, but Dennis Kelly could slide over to tackle.
Give the kid a chance. we need to see if he can play. I would rather lose with Foles, than lose with Vick taxiron1
Foles looked good considering it was his first NFL game ever, and he unexpectedly was thrown into the game cold. Foles has not even practiced with the first team all year. Now that Foles will be practicing every day with the first team, and be involved in the game plan I expect Foles to keep getting better and better every game that he plays...hey Vick was a $100 million bust who has a terrible 11-16 for Eagles the past three years...Foles can't do worst, and is only 22 years old and will keep getting better....oh and Tom Brady was a sixth round pick, and he has been pretty good. jim35

People...You are making a fool out of yourself by other teams/fans around the league the way you still talk about your loser team. Take a chill pill! You'll be on your couch come a few weeks!!!! MRD
@defroe: They got the 2nd TD on a 1 yard run from FB Stanley Havili, so it is correct that Foles only threw for 1 TD ( Maclin), but he led them to 17 points(OK,16,but I'm guessing Henery will never miss an XP again) and it would have been more if King Dunlap wasn't a complete idiot who got a penalty that kept the Eagles from having the ball at the one yard line when they were up 14-10. If they make it 21-10 there, maybe Romo approaches the next series with more desperation and makes a mistake. Instead , they kicked a FG to go up 7, and Romo promptly tied it. I agree with your overall point though; I've heard people all day talk about how the play to Maclin was a busted coverage and anybody would have scored there, but they ignore all of the replays that Vick has had all season where you see Jackson and Maclin in the end zone waving their arms and Vick doesn't see them. So regardless of what Dallas did wrong on that play, it was a great play by Foles. drbob1- Foles gave Dalles 14 pts, so stop trying to convince yourself. Some of the best NFL starting QB's were once backups that took advantage of an opportunity without reps when their # was called. Brady, Steve Young, Romo...should I go on!

Compared to Smug McKolb's first game, the kid Foles looked like an all-pro. treLoopy
Foles looked pretty good except for the few plays where he looked pretty bad. He'll have the entire week to practice with the first team and prepare himself for Sunday, so this should be a true test for him. If he plays well he'll probably be the starter from here on. If he stinks up the place or merely plays mediocre, Vick still has a job (for now). SteveS11- With a full week of practice as the starter, and playing against the Redskins' 30th-ranked pass defense, let's see what the kid does this week. All I want to see are 3-5 step drops, a quick read and release. Repeat. For once I would just love to watch a cerebral QB who knows he doesn't have to throw a 100-yard TD on every play and instead can meticulously carve up a defense and keep the chains moving by -- GASP!! -- executing. I know Vick took a lot of heat but Jaws and co. also broke down plenty of film where he had openings but just never delivered the ball for whatever reason
The fools got their Foles. Let's see how long it will take them to turn against him with their sour vitriol. He's fairly inept, so it should be soon. 2smart4philly
So we get a new quarterback. Great. What about the rest of the team? Why can't we expect more from the limited carries McCoy get? Did limited carries stifle B. Westbrook? He seemed to make the most of what he got. He returned punts. He carried this team to the playoffs. For all of McCoy's numbers last year, we ended up 8-8. More responsibility needs to be expected of McCoy. rubicon24
Give the kid a break.....terrible coaching, game planning, offensive line and everything else. Foles deserves at least a friggin chance before NEGADELPHIA attacks him. I gave Vick a shot after prison, I Will defiently give Foles a shot after Dallas. Dr. D.
Give Foles time to show us what he's made of. I bet he's a lot more durable than Vick MikeOct20
Hey BEDPAN.....go back to bed where you belong! Your a loser just like the rest of them! MRD
