Michael Vick confirms he has a dog

POSTED: Thursday, October 11, 2012, 4:41 PM

A day after declining to answer whether he owned a dog, Eagles quarterback Michael Vick released a statement Thursday confirming that his family had recently obtained one.

“I understand the strong emotions by some people about our family’s decision to care for a pet,” Vick said in a statement released by his publicist. “As a father, it is important to make sure my children develop a healthy relationship with animals.

“I want to ensure that my children establish a loving bond and treat all of God’s creatures with kindness and respect. Our pet is well cared for and loved as a member of our family. This is an opportunity to break the cycle. To that end, I will continue to honor my commitment to animal welfare and be an instrument of positive change.”
Last week, Vick tweeted a photograph of him and his daughter seated together at a table presumably at home. To their right was an open box of Milk-Bone dog biscuits. The tweet was later deleted and was replaced by a similar photo, sans the Milk-Bone box.

Several days later, the Eagles quarterback was asked to explain the photos.

“I’m here to strictly talk about football,” Vick said Wednesday at the NovaCare Complex. “What goes on in my personal life is not to be talked about. What’s most important right now is the Philadelphia Eagles and getting the win Sunday.”

Vick could not own a dog during a three-year probationary period following his release from prison. He served 19 months for owning and operating a dogfighting ring and an additional two months of house arrest following his release in May.

He had spoken openly about wanting to own a dog and in July told CNN’s Piers Morgan that he did not want to deprive his daughters from having the pet because of his crimes. Asked what kind of dog he would get, Vick said that he would allow his children to choose, but “it certainly won’t be a pit bull.”

Sir/Madam, Are you a meat eater? Did you ever see videos of how they make the meat? You think of nuggets/burgers/cheese.. .did u ever know cheese is made out of an enzyme extracted from baby calf? so you are in no position to judge others unless u have discouraged all the fast food centers too. If you can't help don't, but don't get in the way trying to discouraging who are trying to be reformed.

I understand killing is killing and its absolutely heartless what he did. But he paid his dues and lost everything he has and is now trying to reform himself as a human being. If one person like him can change.. I am sure you can change your perception of forgiving and trying to impart good into people.

Are you on some sort of drug? You are actually comparing torturing animals for no reason to eating meat? Your premise is so mindbiggingly absurd I won't even argue with you. Vick did some really heinous acts that whack job supporters far too often gloss over with false equivalency nonsense like you're spewing. I'm a big believer in forgiveness and second chances but lets not equate that with forgetting the past. Having a suspicion about someone who callously tortured innocent dogs for no reason (even several that we're completely unrelated to dogfighting) owning a dog is natural.

11 games to go until this isn't our problem anymore.

not a vick hater...love dogs...believe in forgiveness but this doesn't sit well. i'm sure the dog is fine and everything. i think him not allowed to have a dog is a bigger punishment than he's fines that he is paying back. doesnt' sit well but...anyways...more importantly STOP FUMBLING THE BALL

Who cares? And why can't he have a dog, shouldn't that be a positive step in his rehabilitation process?? It's not like he has set up a puppy fighting ring in his backyard, he got a dog for his kid/family and is learning that dogs can be more than just things to make fight, how is this possibly a bad thing that we need to care 2 shytes about?

Don't care he has a dog, he is legally allowed to. I do care that he is a bad QB and is the starter on our team.

What Vick did was wrong, he was found guilty and served his time via the judicial system. End of story, move on.

here we go with the insults jokes and regurgitated news.....plus haters hating on...lovely. I wonder if the Dept of Animal control in conjunction with the Phil PD will send out an agent to talk to the dog" How are you being treated Rufus?"

Well at least it's public now. Now if the dog gets drowned or electrocuted maybe it won't be as easy to bury him in the backyard and pretend he never existed like the last time Vick owned some dogs.
