McNabb: Eagles made mistake (video)

POSTED: Monday, October 4, 2010, 11:42 AM

Redskins coach Mike Shanahan gave Donovan McNabb the game ball in the locker room after their 17-12 victory over the Eagles yesterday.

McNabb told his teammates that the victory was all about the team. He thanked the defense and said the offense will get it together, starting with him.

McNabb added that the 'Skins are atop the NFC East and are going to stay there. But the final sentence of his speech is what will probably interest the group here.

"Everybody makes mistakes in their lifetime, and they [the Eagles] made one last year," McNabb said as his teammates responded with "Absolutely!"

The video is below.

And earlier, I posted Man Up on the defense.

What is McNabb all whiny about here? Put a dress on the guy.

First of all, while he was here, the Eagles paid him 10's of millions of dollars. Plus he made campbells and mcdonalds commercials. If he's smart, he's got to be worth $50M at this point. So he's mad that the eagles made him famous and rich?

And anyway, if you watched his performance on Sunday, you'll see exactly why the Eagles traded the guy. It was a classic McNabb performance with one or two good passes were separated by lots of overthrows, throwing it into the ground and looking lost out there.

    He's unbelievable.

how long are people going to continue to refer to what mcnabb did instead of what he can now do? he WAS an amazing QB but those days have passed him by. For reference, please refer to Brian Westbrook. Glory days will pass you by and leave you with nothing, mister.

After watching this game it is clear why the Eagles traded McNabb. He stinks!!!! He is the most overrated underachieving crybaby QB in the NFL!!!!

Same old McNabb. Still carries the Garbage Can around his neck. He still can't believe he's a 'skin and Daddy Reid is not around to hold his hand. The mistake was keeping Andy Reid as the Head Choke during the games. Same clock mismanagement, poor play calling, and no offensive adjustments. In reality, the 'skins punished the Eagles..

PHILLY FANS ARE THE DUMBEST THIN SKINNED AUTOMATONS IN THE LEAGUE. YOUR IQ'S MATCH YOUR WAIST SIZE. THAT'S WHY I'M GLAD I MOVED OUT OF FILTHY-DELPHIA. MCNABB IS BETTER THAN BOTH OF YOUR QB'S AND NO MATTER WHAT YOU SAY....THE SCORE IS MCNABB 1....EAGLES O. THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN YOUR COACH AND OUR COACH IS THE FACT THAT OUR COACH REALIZES THE IMPORTANCE OF THE RUNNING GAME, CLOCK MGNT, AND GAME PLANNING. WHY FORCE MCNABB TO THROW WITH THE LEAD WHEN THE EAGLES CANT STOP THE RUN? THE WHOLE LEAGUE POINTS TO THE LACK OF COMMITMENT TO THE RUNNING GAME AND OVER-HYPED QB'S AS THE REASON FOR LOSES. CONGRATS. AND YOU WILL FINISH LAST IN THE DIVISION AND WILL NEVER....EVER....EVER WIN A SUPERBOWL...EVEN THE NEW ORLEAN SAINTS WON A CHAMPIONSHIP BEFORE YOUR CRAPPY CITY. THOSE ARE THE FACTS JACK. BUT AT LEAST YOU PHILLY FANS WILL DIE A SLOW AND PAINFUL DEATH THIS YEAR-GO FEED YOUR FACES CHEESE STEAKS OR CAKES. EITHER WAY....THE BEST FOOTBALL TEAM IN PHILLY IS TEMPLE.

Would not have mattered if we still had McNabb and the Deadskins still had Cambpell. Last Sunday Shanahan beat Reid, period. The only mistake the Iggles made was not getting rid of Andy and his staff of stiffs too.

I've always been a Donovan fan. But, it was time for him to leave Philly. Donovan had seen many prime-time players leave because of the Reid/Banner philosophy; maybe he thought he would be the exception...But he's on the sensitive side, so he's still hurting...should watch GF1: "It's not personal , Sonny, it's strictly business"

McNabb made his typical mistakes in this game but Andy made even more. Eagles got beat by the one thing Andy hates...a running game.

No matter what, the haters will have something bad to say about a true class act. The bottom line is he is right and that he's a winner, even when he doesn't bring his A-game. In the other hand, Vick better get healthy soon, because Kevin Kolb will get our receivers (if he can throw to them) and running backs killed with his weak short throws. Did you guys noticed DeSean Jackson screaming while pointing a finger in KK chest after they had to punt?

No secure person says this. That is why he fails when his team needs him most. That is why the majority of fans wanted him out. Slow-thinking Andy needed 5 extra seasons to see this.

McNabb this, McNabb that, McNabb's team is leading the division. He threw for 427 again Houston. U blame him for the loss. He plays a poor game. U dont give him credit for the win. Thats why I am happy he moved on. His stats might not be the great but his teams wins games. Djax was so vocal about Kolb and their youth...His facial expressions really tell the story...I guess all that YAC they were talkin about is on the shelves at Wine & Spirits...Go Eagles but u reap what u sow

True that McNabb didn't necessarily win this game, but he did what he had to when there was a chance for points. How many times did Klob not look at jackson or maclin downfield when they were open? Klob just looked scared the whole game. I swear we went about a quarter without attempting to throw to a wide receiver. Maclin and Jackson's number of touches explains why we lost.

Trading McNabb wasn't about winning now. That's why I thought it was short-sighted to start Vick over Kolb. But McNabb does have a legitimate point - he wasn't great yesterday, but if the Eagles had him on their side yesterday they would have won.

McNabb was moved because of the importance the Eagles give to the age/diminishing skills factor. No Eagle player is exempt from this. This is very difficult for McNabb to accept as it would be for many players that prefer to finish their careers as an Eagle. McNabb had a pretty good run in Phila. and was an extraordinary QB (maybe not extraordinary enough for some fans). Not many NFL QBs enjoy the level of success that he did. The ovation he received on Sunday clearly indicates Philadelphia's appreciation for what he did when he was an Eagle. And he deserved it.

I don't miss: him, the worm burners, Sam & Wilma, Chunky Soup, vomit, the Air Guitar, Black on Black crime, keep my name out ya mouth, the Hopkins snub, the superbowl choke, the lapses in concentration, the open receivers missed downfield, we could go on...but why? Thanks for the memories, just go.

PhillyFanSouth - The Eagles are a mediocre football team. Period. The game yesterday? That was two mediocre football teams playing each other. Washington just happened to not suck as badly as the Eagles did yesterday. Neither of these teams will make the playoffs. Both will finish with 7 or 8 wins. Stop whining about the refs, Eagles' mistakes, blah blah blah. Many times, a mediocre team has a bad game because they lack discipline; in fact, discipline is a key element that separates good teams from average to below average teams in this league. The O-line is not very good, the defensive back 7 is below average, the gameday coaching is average, the coverage units are below average, and the QB situation is a unstable. Those combined issues make the Eagles a mediocre football team. Nothing more, nothing less. Not in the top 10 and not in the bottom 10. Mediocre.

It's not like McNabb's performance won the game for the Redskins, and I'm sure his teammates realize that they got very lucky with some bad calls, no calls and odd calls. The Eagles, the help of the refs, gift wrapped that game for them.

I've been a Redskins fan for 37 years, and I tip my cap to the Eagles fans for that nice ovation for McNabb. That was true class.
In that video, he didn't say anything out of line. He praised the defense and said he had to get better. For a Redskins team that has lacked accountability (from top to bottom) for years, it's refreshing to hear a team leader take responsibility. McNabb has pride, so he's going to believe Philly made a mistake by trading him. The Eagles thought so little of McNabb that they dealt him to a division rival. That had to sting, and he didn't want to leave Philly.
When I saw McNabb scramble for that first down late in the game, it reminded me of how many times he beat my Redskins with his feet.
I know it didn't work out with a Super Bowl victory. But those McNabb years in Philly were tremendous: five NFC title games, a Super Bowl appearance and always a contender. Man, I wish I could say the same about my beloved Redskins during that time.

xlgmanix...wouldnt you want to say something similar about an employer who let you go....yeah his numbers arent hof today but even a hof qb has bad games....his speech was more about the defense winning it for the team, offense needing to step up starting with him and how this was a team win

bill1966....no counting tonights game he is 10th in passing yards, 15th in qb rating, 25th in completion %, tied 6th for avg. yards per completion, only 2 int and only 3 td, and only 6 sacks...he is not the player he once was but is still better than about 1/2 the qb's in the league...not to mention he only has moss and cooley....nowhere near the weapons vick/kolb has.

dont get me wrong it was time to move on but i wish he would have said more stuff like this when he was here. oh by the way....get rid of andy

mcnabb just can't help himself. For the guy who says he wants to put it past him, he really just can't keep his mouth shut. the guy went 8/19 125 1/1 and was 2/11 in the second half. Not exactly HOF numbers, so save me the speech. That type of speech is why he never was truly an iggle

Predictable comments for the most part, but the fact is that the redskins o-line & backs were the stars of the game. Even still, we had a chance to win if not for that McCoy fumble.

Now that McNabb has gotten his mulligan and the national media jackals have slunk off until the next holiday figure is treated roughly at a Philadelphia sporting venue, do fans now have carte blanche to boo unmercifully on his next trip in? I need to know before I craft my “Every time you boo poor Don, God kills a kitten” tee shirt.

In all fairness to Kevin "Mr. Clutch" Kolb, the Redskins didn't game plan for him all week. Had they game planned for him, it could have been a blowout. Just wait til next week and the niners game plan for "Mr. Clutch"! He'll show all of you what he's made of! McNabb is just a sore winner. He, like the majority of the Eagles fan base, just wishes he was still an Eagle. We want more than just wins & perennial trips to the playoffs! We want a QB with grit & determination & a stoic demeanor when he loses or throws a pick!

How are Eagles fans "frontrunners" when the Redskins stadium has been filled to the brim with other teams' fans for the last 10+ years. As an Eagles fan living in DC, it's been great the last few years going to what amounts to an Eagles home game on the road.

Remember to thank your Eagles Front Office for trading McNabb to a weak division rival, which made them better! Who is dumb enough to make a direct competitor/rival in any business better? The Eagles! But wait, they got a 2nd round pick that they used on Nate Allen! A good player, but how many games will a safety win you? Hint: it starts with a (z)ero.

Let's face it when McNabb was an eagle he generally had a 100+ passer rating. Yesterday it was in the 60's. Whether he should have went or not, it is over. Move on everybody. Doesn't anyone think that it was odd that the Redskins only won by "5" points?

OK, first of all, Lonewolf is being sarcastic.

Second of all, you're just blinded by hate if you have a problem with McNabb saying this. Almost any human being, especially a competitive one, would have thought and said this in the exact same spot. What was he supposed to do--not get up a little extra for this game, or not feel vindicated that his team won?

donovan did not play well yesterday but he won and that is all that matters...we couldnt do jack against the worst defense in the nfl...maybe they arent that bad seeing how they had a good defense last year...notice how shannahan kept the ball out of donovans hands when he realized he wasnt on his game.....19 attempts...had that been andy it would have been 39. one coach recognizes what is going on and makes changes...the other coach is stubborn sticks to his plan and eats a cheesesteak during halftime

i dont get half the idiots on these sites....you killed mcnabb for never taking the blame and right there he gave the defense the credit and said the offense needs to get better starting with him....you killed him for not ever speaking his mind and giving the company line and right there he spoke from the heart and said they made a mistake...has anyone on here been fired? thats essentially what they did to donovan. if you have been fired, you think your former employer made a mistake? that is if you have any confidence in your own abilities

I saw this after the game yesterday and couldn't agree more. People will won't to scoff at what was said and get mad but he told the truth. After the display or non-display of Kolbs lack of ability to play QB at an NFL level all you can say is the Eagle FO screwed this town by making that move. Hopefully Vick can get back before next week. You are 100% right McNabb, the Eagles made a BIG mistake.

If McNabb has pride, of course he's going to feel that way. Too bad you Internet tough-guy losers wouldn't know anything about pride. Irony is when so many Eagles fans are crying in their corn pops, they still have time to whine about McNabb. Get over the air guitar. Get over your junior psychology analysis over McNabb's passive-aggressive BS. Focus on how the Eagles scored 12 points at home against one of the worst defenses in the NFL.

The only mistake was not cutting him after his first NFL practice. McNabb was the worse thing that ever happened to the Eagles. He's not a winner and he has the lowest completion percentage in Eagles history. Kevin "Mr. Clutch" Kolb crisp passes to McCoy in the flats are just the beginning soon Kolb will reign supreme in this league. Kolb already has accomplished more than McNabb has in one-tenth of the time. Every team in the league is jealous that the Eagles now have the best young QB since Joe Montana. Kevin "Mr. Clutch" Kolb was phenomenal in practice when no cameras were available. In the preseason and the regular seasons Kolb was just experimenting with a few things but now with the wind on his back he will roll off the next 12 games with a vengeance never seen before. Wolf Out!

Maybe it was a mistake to trade Donovan. Maybe not. Sometimes you have to trade people a year or two early, to get the next guy ready. If McDermott doesn't send Nate Allen on a blitz, letting McNabb hit Chris Cooley, and Kurt Coleman knows his assignment on McNabb's other long completion, then McNabb completes 8 passes and the Skins lose 12-3. The Birds are a young team, including the D coordinator. McNabb did a good job taking advantage of the mistakes. Let's see how he fares against the Ravens or Giants.
