In his blog, Donovan McNabb mourns the passing of Michael Jackson.

Here's the entry:

Like most of the rest of the world I am devastated by the news of Michael Jackson’s death. Ironically, I am in Los Angeles for a few days between shooting a commercial and attending a teammate’s wedding this weekend.

Those who have followed my career know that I am a huge fan of the King of Pop. After many of my touchdowns, I have moonwalked or mimicked some of his moves – before you get ready to criticize those moves on a post, know that even I understand I couldn’t hold a candle to Michael when it comes to dancing. My dances were a mere tribute to Michael’s unbelievable ability to entertain.

Many times we are reminded at someone’s death that “there will never be another one like him/her.” In this case, those words couldn’t be more true.

My condolences go out to his children, his immediate family, and his extended family of millions around the world.

PS: The wedding in question is apparently the Hank/Kendra nuptials.

Fairly thoughtful post; what else can you say? Someone said it's the fourth biggest death in our lifetime, behind Elvis, John Lennon, and Princess Di. Certainly for a time during the eighties, there was no one bigger.

You really think those children were his?

There was nothing better than watching Don do the thriller dance after running in a touchdown... I would bet we will see some Jacko tribute dances this year the first time Don takes one in.

Yeah, Don's MJ dances after a rushing touchdown are the best. I'll be a rare Philly optimist and go out on a limb: now he'll run more so he can throw down a few tribute moves in the end zone. It'll be sweet.

I agree Phillymike! The media is celebrating a pedophile. It's sad! I was a fan of Jackson's for many years, but where there's smoke there's fire.

MJ was a good singer and a great dancer. He was also a child molester. The US has become such a celebrity driven society that we've lost all perspective between right and wrong, good and bad. May God have mercy on his soul. One question to DMac, If you had a 10 yr old son, would you let him stay the night at MJs house?

Bdawk: phillymike is ABEL not kane. MJ's addictions will make the AnnaNiclole stuff look like child's play (which of course MJ reveled in). Unsure why the world glorifies a creep.

He may have been a music genius but he was a sad picture of a man and a person......Yes, let's celebrate his talent...and we can be sad for his passing........but remember he did not cure cancer, feed the hungry with his millions, help a country or a people be free from tyranny.......Our obsession with Pop, Hollywood and Sports figures shows the true lack of values in this country and our inablility to see what is really important in life......It is not entertainment or entertainers folks........He was not MLK, Jack Kennedy, Jonas Sauk.......We are so shallow....Thanks for the great music Micheal but like Elvis and the Beatles your followers will soon just be old folks trying to relive the past......while those in medicine and science or the defenders of freedom will have a legacy the world will remember.....

Nothing but the truth
Wow! To see all of the post blasting a man in his grave is ridiculous. If you wanted to blast MJ everyone should have done it in the 50 years while he was on this earth. Now is not really the time. Let the man have his wake because in a short time it will be over. There is nobody without fault and if you look deep enough you can find reason to degrade anyone. I'm not going to post what the common vice between MLK, Jack Kennedy and Jonas Saulk is but if you know their history then you know they were not complete saints either. What purpose does cursing a man under the earth serve?

NUgget - "but remember he did not cure cancer, feed the hungry with his millions, help a country...." direct quote from you. Look, MJ's final days (years) weren't the best - but look at the body of work and the cultural impact he made - globally. Then, go back to 1984 (1985?)and remember that MJ personally ushered in the era of celebrity philanthropy with USA for AFRICA ("We Are The World") which inspired LIVE AID. MJ in his sane years, did as much for humanity as he could. Don't rain on his grave now. And Lonewolf4 (down to "4" nopw - the IQ points just keep dropping!! - kudos to you, you "special guy" - do you stil wear that helmet? It's not helping, huh?). Rest easy - D-MAc won't moonwalk all over your MOM anymore when he tags her, you D-Bag.

lonewolf4 - quoting one of my fave "80's films" (in honor of the MJ passing) - I'll leave you with a little bit from STAND BY ME: "It should have been you, Lonewolf (Gordie)" ...

As for the child molestation stuff: MJ was acquitted. Another person came forward to say he was molested 23 years after the allegedly abuse, and his case was dismissed by a judge. Innocent until proven guilty, people. He was weird, but he was a very damaged person who at least deserved more sympathy than he got from the tabloids.

hey nothing, MJ was blasted pretty bad in the past few years. and I agree, let's celebrate the man's talents but also acknowledge his shortcomings as well. (again, this was a guy who was accused of molesting kids with cancer; KIDS WITH CANCER. its tough to describe a more disturbing crime). great entertainer, disturbed human.

Nothing but the truth
JamesJ I never said that I was perfect what I said was what purpose does degrading a man who passed away serves? I have my own faults just like everyone else. You can look at anyone in history (except Jesus) and the deeper you look into them the more faults you will find. Vinni I'm not brushing aside some of his shortcomings but the truth is he was never convicted. Now would I let my kids stay with Mike? Absolutely not. For one I don't know the man and two one child molestation accusation is one too many. But you can't use death as a forum to bash life. Respect the people who came before us and passed away. Would you use the wake as a time to degrade a close friend or family member who passed away? We all know the vices that people close to us have but we respect that moment in time when they leave us. My screen name isn't Nothing But the Truth for a reason. Civility people civility

Super5, PhillyMike77, JamesJ, etc: MJ was acquitted, actually, so it's really not right, honest, or fair to call him a child molester. Is it really that hard to imagine that someone of his truly staggering fame and fortune could attract people who lie and who are not exactly credible? Anyway, Dmac said his thing well and I look forward to lots of touchdowns and mj tributes this season.

Just a friendly reminder to all of you who cast stones. As the saying goes, "People that live glass houses should not throw stones". For many of you I applaud your tact and sincerity but for the one's that love to criticze and whine, I would not label a person if he has not been convicted by our court system. I imagine you reached your conclusion on MJ just like you cast dispersions on our QB, via the media. Learn to formulate your opinions from concise evidence not from heresay or speculation.

his music and his moves were great, there was nobody that could take that away from him, as a person i lost respect when he started molesting children. i heard that ted bundy was a nice guy too when he wasnt murdering people.

men worth hundreds of millions have women over them, constantly. he took webster to the grammys, and we all thought it was cute. kids sleeping over, while the bedroom door was locked protected by bodyguards. just becuase he paid people off doesnt make him innocent. and on top of all that he was a junkie and thats how he died. u watch how fast that doctor ends up in jail. the type of meds he was on is for someone with late stage crones disease or terminal painful cancer. he was using that much junk to maintain, and it killed him. a junkie pedophile who cud sing and dance. WHO CARES? usa/brazil in the conferation cup, thats news! this MJ coverage shows america is keeping it real.........REAL DUMB!

RIP Layne Staley. "YES LENNON AND ELVIS WERE GREAT ARTIST TOO, BUT THEY AINT GOT NOTHIN ON MICHAEL". Yeah, ok dude. Do you have any idea what you're talking about? Judging by your screen name, I don't think so. Stop celebrating and romancing the life of a weirdo. Go watch the interview he did in '03 and tell me how great he was. One more thing...RobM thinks that "watching Don do his Thriller dance after running in a TD" was cool. I think that tells us something about McNabb AND all of his CLONES. Real cool, guys...

Also, how about if your shortcomings were available for all to see? Same for you too cokmaster and mywifeisfat! Continue trashing McPaid (since that is what y'all do best) and leave the dead alone.

It's days later and I'm still feeling the sting of MJ's death. What hurts and irritates me the most is some of these negative comments and having to realize that it's just opinions. For a second just realize the facts: he was never found guilty of any crime, he did raise millions of dollars for other countries and he touched many lives positively. His presence brought joy and happiness to many. If that's not healing then what is. RIP MJ. Good or bad thoughts you still found a way to be relevant and fill our imagination. One LOVE....
