McNabb gets his revenge
Jeff McLane
Donovan McNabb was anything but perfect but the former Eagles quarterback did enough to lead the Redskins past his old team, 17-12, upon his return to Lincoln Financial Field on Sunday.
McNabb, cheered during his introduction, essentially clinched the game when he scrambled 18 yards for a first down on third-and-four from his own 22-yard line. The Eagles had narrowed the Redskins' margin to five with a little over four minutes left, but McNabb guided his offense into Eagles territory and milked the clock down to close to a minutre left.
Kevin Kolb, who replaced the injured Michael Vick in the second quarter, could not drive the Eagles to the winning touchdown. He had 1:07 to work with and had to travel 74 yards with no timeouts left.
After a roller coaster first half, but defenses ruled the day as McNabb struggled and Kolb and the Eagles offense failed to generate a spark.
McNabb completed only 8 of 19 passes for 125 yards. He threw a beauty of a 32-yard score to tight end Chris Cooley in the first half, but tossed an interception in the third quarter.
The game took a dramatic turn when Vick left with a rib/chest injury after he ran for a near-touchdown. That play, however, was reversed when Eagles guard Max Jean-Gilles was called for holding.
The game-turning moment, however, had to be when Eagles coach Andy Reid failed to realize just before the half when the officials had re-started the game clock after he called a timeout on fourth-and-one on the Washington 1-yard line. The Eagles were pushed back five yards and had to settle for a field goal and a 17-6 deficit at the half.
- Squandered timeouts, letting your only decent QB play running back and get flattened, and a Chinese fire drill of a timeout all spell one thing: the Land Whale must go!
Dear Mr. Lurie, PLEASE look for new coaches. Please put a competitve product on the field. That was horrible excuse for a footbell team. The coaching staff and YOU should take the blame and FIX it. Let them all loose and start over. Wishfull thinking...Oh well atleast the Phillies know how to do it.... Brohn
The winning is what matters. Points for style have never shown up on the scoreboard. Congrats Donovan. cuse
Lonewolf 11, harsh...but true. Plink, Plunk, Dink & Dunk, no that's not a Philly law firm, it's the Eagles offense when Kolb is playing. Wide open DJax and Kolb heaves a duck [which made me heave] Wide open DJax and DJax and he decides to check down. Pathetic. tpizza- Two things: before Vick started playing, all you Eagles lovers were crowing about Kolb and his, "short accurate passes" that were going to lead to "yards after the catch". Well that's what he does, and if the players can't run after the catch, it doesn't work. Also, I can't stand Vick, always a McNabb fan, but you lowlifes crowing about him (or any other player) getting hurt on the field is just pathetic. Players in the NFL risk their lives (yes for a lot of money) and reveling in someone getting injured out there is just sick. Come on up and join the rest of the human race, don't wish injury on anybody. mjc1
- Anyone needs Eagles tickets?
- Kevin Kolb was anything but good, and he did more than enough to cause his team to lose. I love the "spin" by the Jeff McLane.
HAHAHHAHHAHHAAHAHAHA......Reid is still lost as a coach...Kolb looks downright scared out there and is equally clueless...McNabb gets his just revenge..Skins on their way to their FOURTH Super Bowl win...Eagles no closer to winning their FIRST...HAIL! Later losers! 49yrsnotitle
HAHAHAAAAAAAHAAAHAAAAAHAA THERE YOU GO.YOU WANTED MCNABB OUT AND HE JUST KICKED YOUR ASSES.GOOD FOR YOU MCNABB.NOW AND ONLY NOW I CAN BE AN EAGLES FAN AGAIN. Phillies08
Happy to say I'm glad I didn't shell out BIG BUCKS for season tickets to this menagerie. Andy Reid doesn't even have a play ready to go near the end of the first half when it's fourth and goal inside the one. They get a delay of game, and have to kick a field goal. GREAT JOB REID!!!!!!!!!!!!! HUH? thomasg
Lessee - Pivotal point in the game comes when Reid mismanages the clock. The dog killer is knocked out of the game with an injury. McNabb's Reid-annointed heir apparent to McNabb is underwhelming, to say the least. McNabb, meanwhile, does what is necessary to win the game, including a clutch scramble near the end of the game to keep the ball in Redskins possession. Karma was definitely at play here, people. In my 49 years of rooting for Philly sports teams, I have never rooted against one of our own, but I was today. Hopefully Lurie will make the correct call at the end of the season, and jettison Reid, Morningweigh and Vick in a clean sweep. They need to GO! filly2sf
Great decision Front Office! Let the guy that made this team relevant, over the last decade, go! I hope Donny Mac does well...but he probably will...BECAUSE THAT'S WHAT HE'S ALWAYS DONE - PLAY VERY WELL!! So what he didn't win a Superbowl, it wasn't for a lack of trying! Let's see will the Colts let Manning go? Nope! Will the Pats let Brady go? Nope!
Well Front Office, you pinned your hopes to Kolb...doesn't look like a great decision right now!
And don't get me started on Vick! He hasn't won anything either! It's all about who gives you the BEST CHANCE TO WIN...and that was the guy that wore #5, and was shown the door!
7-9, maybe 8-8 AT BEST this season!
Good job Philadelphia! rickah88
Jeff Garcia, where are you? mrdrums
HAIL TO THE REDSKINS. Super Bowl win #4 coming soon! ....well at least before #1 for the Eagles, that much is certain. 49yrsnotitle- Reid had to dummy down the offense for Kolb. Still, he failed. He's an average athlete who can't read defenses or understand game plans. This was made obvious by the many near interceptions.
