McCoy breaks rib; Vick does not
Daily News staff and Les Bowen
Eagles quarterback Michael Vick does not have any broken ribs, but was diagnosed with a rib cartilage injury. Coach Andy Reid said the injury is "up high in the second and third ribs," connecting to the sternum.
"We’ll see how he feels," Reid said. "This is going to be one of those day-to-day, week-to-week things … Rick [Burkholder] and our docs will keep a close eye on it."
Reid said Vick is "sore" today.
“We’ll see how Michael does here," Reid said. "If he is as sore as he is today, then Kevin will take the snaps [Wednesday].”
Vick at least was not grimacing as he walked from the NovaCare cafeteria to a meeting. Walking seemed painful for him yesterday. "Better," Vick said when asked how he felt.
Meanwhile, running back LeSean McCoy has a broken rib suffered in the second quarter. "He played through it," Reid said. "He’s a pretty tough kid. We have to see. It’s a comfort thing. They are doing a couple of other things."
Riley Cooper and Asante Samuel have concussions. Reid said "their concussions seem to be mild."
As for Kevin Kolb, Reid said, "He did some good things and he has some things he needs to work on. He put us in a position where we can win the football game.” He also said everyone has confidence in Kolb should he need to be the starter.
Reid, as usual, didn't commit to making or not making roster moves in the wake of the Vick and Cooper injuries. The Eagles have only rookie Mike Kafka behind Kolb, and Cooper is one of only four wideouts on the 53-man roster. Reid said he would meet with general manager Howie Roseman.
Jeff Garcia, twice called upon by the Eagles in the past, is quartebacking for Omaha of the United Football League, but apparently can get out of his deal if someone pays Omaha $150,000. Agent Doug Hendrickson has not responded to a message from the Daily News.
Reid was also asked about time management and the play at the end of the first half. "I’d like to tell you everything on that, but that would be an expensive answer.” He again took the blame. "That was my fault."
Reid was asked if he has ever considered designating someone on the coaching staff to be primarily concerned with the clock during games.
"Yes," he said. "We do make sure we look at the clock."
He then ended his news conference with no further explanation.
All those dump off passes to him by noodle arm no wonder!
Kolb reinforced everyone’s thinking that he is indeed a BACK UP QB!
osi is hurt boohoo- We'll have to wait and see on that. I have to put those ribs in a better position to heal. That's on me, I take full responsibility for that. That thing is something I'll have to do a better job of. did somebody say ribs? 1980
- "...diagnosed with a rib cartilage." um doesn't everyone have rib cartilage? was it torn or otherwise injured perhaps?
- The Eagles lost much more than a game yesterday. This franchise needs a major change of direction. Fire Reid. That's a heck of a start
- hit the eagles the only place they care about ... THEIR WALLET. everyone do yardwork 10/17 daveH
Hey DaveH, you sound like my wife...just kidding (but she would love it if I took your advice). Joe
Comment removed.
Cartilage? Do you mean Contusion? And every concussion is mild to Andy. Just ask Stew... badstats
Reid can afford the fine from the league. The level of cheapness in this franchise is embarrassing. And if Vick is tough enough to torture dogs and do his time in Leavenworth, then playing w/ "injured rib cartiledge" shouldn't be a problem. At least they have one man on the team in McCoy. Westbrook would be out a month. realzeel- Reid is getting soft. Why didn't he give Asante and Cooper the same conclusion test of "what does H-U-H spell?" like he gave to Kolb and Bradley in week one? As for McCoy he might have a broken rib but he has 23 spares so he should be okay. Also Vick's cartilage damage isn't so bad so he should still be able to run a few game-breaking wildcat plays when Kevin "Mr. Clutch" Kolb is taking a break of destroying the competition. Wolf out!
- A cause for many of these injuries is because the Eagles are too small. They get manhandled every week. It would be nice to have a coach who understands that size matters. Good big men, beat good little men.
- I always defend the coaching including Reids drafts and leadership. I don't like the playcalling, don't run the ball enough is more on Marty than Reid.
Clock management.....Reid is killing me. Over the years the timeouts are burned way too early. Andy go buy Madden 2010 and learn how to manage the clock. My eight year old does a better job. Maybe we can blame the officials but it is Reids and the other offensive coaches fault. Kolb needs the play. Maybe the skins D stuffs the play but I guess we won't know because of the delay of game. Losing by 5 is worse than getting beat by two scores when grading the coaches. pking222
the phillies have a playoff game on 10/17. I'll be watching that Dave. Reid sucks. McNabb sucked, but obviously the time management issues are all on Reid. fishthing
Boycott game attendance until Reid is fired. n62
Me, I'd take Koy as my backup over KK. At least he could hold for kicks. PhillySubsMac
