Mayock's take: The quarterbacks

NFL NETWORK analyst Mike Mayock, a Newtown Square resident, will break down each position in advance of the draft for Daily News readers. Here is Part 1 with his take on the quarterbacks:

BEST

ANDREW LUCK, Stanford

6-4, 234

Hand: 10 inches

40-yard dash: 4.64

Projected Round: 1 (first overall pick)

Mayock: "Luck is the most NFL-ready quarterback I've seen in years. He's got all of the physical attributes. The offense he played in at Stanford allows a degree of security for an organization to watch his tape and see that's he's already doing the things that NFL teams are going to ask him to do. Rarely do you see a college kid with the feet skills to slide-move, find a lane and deliver the ball. That's one of the things that separates Luck a little bit from anyone else out there in this draft."

RISER

RYAN TANNEHILL, Texas A&M

6-4, 221

Hand: 9

40-yard dash: 4.58

Projected Round: 1 (picks 3-8)

Mayock: "He's a prototypical NFL franchise quarterback. He can make all the throws. He's more athletic than most quarterbacks his size. Played wide receiver before they moved him to quarterback. The downside to me is he only made 19 starts. You hate (just) 19 starts. And you would hate to take a quarterback in the top 10 that's not ready to play Year 1. But that's the nature of the business now. I saw a lot of stuff on tape I don't like that he's going to have to learn how to do.''

THE SLEEPER

G.J. KINNE, Tulsa

40-yard dash: 4.59

Projected Round: 7-FA

Mayock: "I'm not even sure he's going to get drafted. He could go in the sixth or seventh round or be a priority free agent. I did his game two years ago against Notre Dame. I liked his athletic ability, his all-around game. He's more of a career backup that can cause other people problems because he's so athletic and has a good arm. He just hasn't put the whole thing together yet.''
