Marty Mornhinweg says key to improvement is reducing turnovers

Marty Mornhinweg's evaluation of his offense produced a simple solution: stop turning the ball over.
"Let me make myself very clear -- we have to play better in many instances," Mornhinweg said. "However, if we flip that turnover ratio, it takes care of an awful lot of things. That's the biggest key when we looked at everything with fine detail. When you make it simple, you flip the turnover ratio, you take care of an awful lot of things."
The Eagles have turned over the ball 17 times. Reid said he was going to evalute everything -- play-calling included -- but it sounds like Mornhinweg will still call plays and Michael Vick remains the quarterback.
"You make adjustments every week in this league," Mornhinweg said. "The bye week gives you some time to spend on fine details. There was a host of fine details virtually with every player, then as a unit, then as an offense."
Mornhinweg said most of the focus was on the turnover ratio. His entire message -- to almost every question -- was stop turning the ball over. And that's nothing that has to do with play-calling, and everything to do with performance.
"We look at everything we do every week, even in the bye, even when we have a better record," Mornhinweg said.
WOW, what insight. Marty is a genius. Who else would have thought of that? Has he told Reid? Maybe some of that insight will rub off. 1republican
Marty said "Marty Mornhinweg's evaluation of his offense produced a simple solution: stop turning the ball over.". I wonder how long it took him to come to that conclusion? Real bright offensive play caller, eh!! This is about sickest bunch of coaches ever assembled in the NFL starting with the fraud Fat Andy. They all must go and the sooner the better!
oneway- Captain Obvious Marty. More like Mary.
Damn he is one of the main reasons for these turnovers! Vertical pass plays called again and again which takes too long to develop and expose Vick to added pressure. If Marty kept the FB in and a TE in to block more often there would be enough time for those plays but he sends everyone out and relies on the O LIne alone. Wake up Marty you're not doing your job! How about some screens and more quick slants? How about keeping in more blockers when attempting vertical passing? How about training Vick how to move within the pocket vs. taking off and running?
I BLAME MARTY FOR MOST OF OUR PROBLEMS THIS YEAR! connorjr
Yeah, Marty, no sh-- mportik
What a prfound statement - only thing worse than saying it is to flatter him and make an aticle of it ox
This kind of textbook answer is not on Marty fellas. This is much more of an article about nothing just to have an article or even better, Marty answering questions because he has to. And Marty never went third person. That was Randall and Cam. Vick sucks, face it and stop making excuses for the guy. I bet hes had a ton of coaches try to teach him to move in the pocket instead of run, or slide instead of head first, or hold the ball tight. Those are just lost when the game is in action. Theyve been trying to make him a pocket passer for years now. He is what he is, mediocre. peteike
I didn't use to believe that you "cannot teach an old dog new tricks"; in Convicks case, I firmly believe it is true, no pun intended. oneway
Wow....if you stop turning the ball over, the team will be better...Wow...did Morningweg just discover that...hey Marty every high school coach in the entire country could ahve told you that..however Vick is a fumble and interception machine, but Marty don't have the guts to say it. Bob112
I really hate this guy. Only way to get rid of him is to get rid of Reid, they're obviously tied to each other. I'd bet my life the only way he would ever work in the nfl again is when Andy calls him from San diego. No one else is dumb enough to give that man a job. The Pink Floyd
Memo to Marty - when you call 50 pass plays and 20 run plays, you increase the chances of an interception. When you call such difficult plays that take 6+ seconds to develop, your QB has to hold on to the ball and risk getting hammered and coughing it up - or your QB rushes to get rid of the ball as the play is developing, and you throw interceptions. Finally, when your O-line is 20 or 22 in the league, your QB is going to get hammered, which also leads to fumbles and interceptions. So, are turnovers the problem? Yes. But what do you think will reduce those turnovers? SMitchell
Is he aware that his QB has turned the ball over at a record pace his entire career? Sidewinder7
......and this is news?? Joseph DeSantis
Here is the key to victory..VICK GETTING HURT EARLY IN GAME!! flyers1000
I dunno, if he really wanted to be an innovator, he would have called for even MORE turnovers. Bobby G
