Most of the best OLB in this draft are more of a 3-4 player, or a DE hybrid. Maybe in round 1, but I don't see it. And I can't see them taking a DE in Round 1 unless it's Derrick Morgan or Dunlap, and the latter has some 'splainin' to do on his character. And I don't think the Eagles move up this year - too many positions are now pressing (at least in my mind, since I hate the entire DB corps and the LB corps is so young, and Center is an issue). CB, pure DE - hybrid NOTHING with a 1st round pick. That's why the Eagles are trying out these 250 lb. LBs - they are scratching them off the list (too big for LB, too small for DE - so sorry!).

Wow..the Eagles worked out a DE that was 2244 pounds named Chris McCoy? At that size, does he just roll past the offensive linemen?

would love it if they drafted edwards. he could play multiple roles on this team, including backup QB and would be a weapon.

I agree with MH that it doesn't look like there's the right DE on the board at 24, though they will consider using it for Kyle Wilson as a CB of the future and punt returner. Jerry Hughes is one possibility for 24, and I think they would keep him at DE, but I don't know if that's what they want to do. Ricky Sapp looks like a possible second round choice, and they could also be looking for a SAM, but I don't see the right guy there. They're hoping Iupati will fall but he probably won't. Other possibilities which they may or may not be looking into for 24 are WILL LB Sean Weatherspoon, though Andy doesn't draft LBs first hence a weakness there, and C-G Maurkice Pouncey. Interestingly, Andy hasn't picked OL on day one since Winston Justice, who looked like a bust until this year, which may cause him to warm to the idea of picking OL. I think the likelihood of trading up or down is high. They would have to trade up for Eric Berry and Berry would transform the defense as a star FS. Earl Thomas is another FS they'd have to trade up for. If they don't and Iupati isn't there at 24 they may trade down to high 2nd round, knowing how they usually operate. The team is acutally lacking in well picked first rounders from all the trading down.

also I note that they don't seem to be looking at DEs Dunlap or Jason Pierre-Paul, which is good cuz I think they'll be busts. RB Jahvid Best is another guy I think they should look at for 24, they did well when they picked another underrated Cal speedster recently.

ian no. 2, Winston Justice was actually a 2nd round pick. C'mon! (sorry I just wanted to make myself sound smart)Seriously though, good stuff...hey hey, the Flyers are blanking the Devils. Maybe they get on a streak and draw NJ or Buffalo in the playoffs (doh! the Devils just scored a goal as I wrote this)...

Also it seems that the ghost of Jerome McDougle is keeping them from bringing in Derrick Morgan for a workout as a possible trade up..

If I had to guess on Andy Reid's strategy in this years draft...my guess is that he takes Pouncey from Florida with pick 24. If that happens dont be surprised to see the Eagles deal Stacy Andrews. I think the Eagles want any remains of the Andrews boys gone. Pouncey could play center and if Jamaal Jackson is ready to go.. Pouncey would move to right guard. I'd like to see us get a big play linebacker but Reid has never gone that route before.. Kindle could be another Elvis Dumerville as far as rushing the passer and I like him but I dont see Reid going that way.. Reid also likes corners and the kid Wilson from Boise St is a good player and might also be in Reid's thinking. I have a feeling Sheldon Brown may be the next veteran to be phased out for 2 reasons.. 1st because he has shown dissatisfaction with his contract and 2nd becuase he was burned badly by Dallas last year. I dont see us going safety at all in the first 2 rounds. I think they like marlin jackson and are going to give Macho Harris and Demps another year to see how they progress. A 3rd round pick of a safety could happen with a Chad Jones or Morgan Burnett. The 2nd rounder will probably be used on a DE or LB. Look for the tall DE Wooten or the LB Spikes in that spot.

Reality speaks - Winston Justice was drafted on the first day of the draft though (Ian no 2 stated "Andy hasn't picked OL on day one"), since rounds 1-3 were on Saturday. I hope Big Red addresses the defensive side of the ball early in this draft. Of course, I am sure he is looking to trade out of round 1 so we can acquire a few more 5th, 6th and 7th round picks and save Mr. Lurie some cash!

The one that sticks out at me is "John Skelton, QB, Fordham", he's a late round sleeper. He needs a couple of years of grooming, just around the time when we should know whether Kolb can play or not. The blue chippers everybody knows about- Berry, Iupati, Kyle Wilson etc.
