Kolb named NFC Offensive Player of the Week
Quarterback Kevin Kolb was named NFC Offensive Player of the Week for his performance in the Eagles' 31-17 victory over the Atlanta Falcons Sunday.
Kolb, filling in for the injured Michael Vick, completed 23 of 29 passes for 326 yards and three touchdowns. It's the second time in five career starts that Kolb has won the award. He was also honored last season after the Kansas City game.
Kolb is expected to start for the third straight week when the Eagles visit the 4-2 Tennessee Titans on Sunday. Eagles coach Andy Reid said Monday that "there's a pretty good chance Kevin is the guy." Vick, during an appearance on a Virginia Beach radio station Monday, said that he wouldn't be able to return from his rib injury until after an Oct. 31 bye The Eagles then host the Colts on Nov. 7.
Titans coach Jeff Fisher, however, said Wednesday during a conference call with Philadelphia reporters that he is preparing for both Kolb or Vick to play.
Tennessee has quarterback issues, as well, after starter Vince Young injured his knee and ankle in a Monday night win over Jacksonville. Fisher said there's a "pretty good" chance Young will be able go against the Eagles. The quarterback won't practice in Wednesday's light workout -- Kerry Collins will take his place -- but Fisher said not practicing shouldn't preclude Young from starting Sunday.
In other news, the Eagles were not expected to sign any of the four players -- defensive tackles Dre Moore, Quinn Pitcock, Tank Tyler and tight end John Nalbone -- they worked out Tuesday at this time.
Comment removed.- congrats kolb. now if you could make that the NFC Player of the Month like vick, then you'll really be saying something.
With the defensive schemes, player personnell, and just plain "want to" that the Titans will bring to bear on our O-Line and poor 'ol KK, I just hope to hell he can walk off the field unassisted when the game is over. This is NOT the Atlanta defense folks! Congrats to KK for the achievement though, he deserves it. Andy is right about one thing, we really DO have two high quality, NFL Starter-Capable QB's. And it's a win-win for both our Iggles, and by extrapolation , us in the fan-base: If Vick accepts an extention offer, we have him for another three years, and KK gets traded to a "low" team that can give us a number one pick within the first six or seven slots, PLUS a serviceable-type QB that should be our number two guy for a while. If Vick decides to test the market and move on (A very real possibility now), we have KK already under contract. Jackpot either way. I was concerned about KK this year, because I did NOT see the ability to extend plays with his feet, the wherewithall to throw the dam ball out of bounds when NECESSARY, or the arm to go downfield on occasion. I also feared for his safety with this O-Line, and an inability to squirm away from hard-hits that would put us without a QB! Those concerns have been answered for the most part. We're gonna be OK next year with either guy, but it sure would be nice to get a top pick and get some HIGH QUALITY help somewhere! TBear
TBear...Are you kidding me??? I love Kolb, but we are not getting a top 10 pick for him in next years draft. The guy has played 3 games so far. Phil Nuggets...Vick played 2 God Awful teams, had the same amount of starts and completed a lower % of passes. Get real.
You guys are so slap stick and knee jerk reactors, you don't know if you're coming or going. doza4- Well deserved. I'm starting to wonder if the benching in favor of Vick had less to do with Vick's play and more to do with Reid giving Kolb a chance to shake off the pressure of being "the guy" - the guy I saw on Sunday bore NO resemblance to the QB I saw in the preseason and the first half of the Green Bay game. Although I'm probably giving Reid WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY too much credit for being that smart. JLB
Kolb had played 4 games as a pro beginning to end. 3-1. About 1,000 yards. Isn't that what you dream of when you draft a QB? bobbyd24
lets hope Collins is back to his drinking ways and with a week of drinking, hes back to his form of the beginning of last season, losing. peteike- doza4 -- the jaguars beat the colts and are 3-3. they are not good awful. i wasnt downplaying kolb when he beat a winless 49ers team. like i said, congrats to kolb but winning the player of the month is definitely a bigger accomplishment. and how can you say that kolb had better numbers when vick has more touchdowns and NO interceptions to kolbs 2 picks. oh, dont forget about vicks rushing yards and better qb rating. but dont let those small stats get in the way of your kolb love affair. statistically speaking, vick is having the better year and you cant deny that(unless you just are a hater/dont like vick). proof is proof. keep making up things in your head to make yourself feel better buddy
Must be a mistake, according to all the "Directors of Player Personel" making comments about Kolb's arm (Baby-Arm). there is no way Kolb should have won this honor. From me: Nice going Kevin! Way to fight for a position!. PhillyFanSouth
I notice that DooBahDud is keeping a lower profile. Phil MeNuggets doesn't catch on that fast. RichB
Phil Me Nuggetts...you are a scumbag like your scumbag lover Vick....Kolb has started 4 games which he played from start to finish...and Kolb has thrown for over 300 yards in 3 of those 4 games..and Kolb has led the Eagles to win in 3 of those 4 games..THAT'S ALL PRO STUFF...Vick has never done that and was booed out of Atlanta and gave the Atlanta fans the finger...loser. Bill20, why you lyin? LOL, Vick was booed out of Atlanta? So you mean the "We Want Vick" chants = booing? Oh, you just mad that Reid still won't say that he is permanently making Kolb the starter - you are real mad that he didnt say it in his press conference today aren't you? mlr710
