The Eagles held their last substantive practice of 2010 today, the last before Sunday's regular season finale against
Dallas. Michael Vick, DeSean Jackson and Asante Samuel were nowhere to be found. It is all but official that all three, plus right tackle Winston Justice, who sat out today to rest his knee, will skip the game. In fact, it seems like Andy Reid will adhere to his usual practice in such situations and will rest up key starters for the playoffs as much as possible.
"It's been a strange year, obviously, for myself, personally," said quarterback Kevin Kolb, who lost his starting job after suffering a concussion in the opener. "But it's been a great year for the team, and I've had a lot of fun, as well. I think people understand how tough it's been on me, but they don't understand how much fun I'm having with this team and with Mike and our coaching staff ... we've got a good thing going, We have to make sure we're right for the playoffs, and it starts with us as backups doing the right thing on Sunday."
"I have a lot of confidence in the future of my career," Kolb, 26, said. "There's many more years to go for me, and I know this could be a special one right here -- we can go win a Super Bowl, me as a starter or not. I want to do whatever I can to make sure I'm helping out, when and where I can, and not (be) a distraction. I think if you start acting like that, then things are going to turn on you pretty fast."
Kolb implicitly acknowledged that he will be starting, though officially, Reid said only that it would "be a stretch" for Vick to play with a bruised quad. Vick, who did not practice this week, is listed as questionable, as are Jackson, Samuel and Justice. Middle linebacker Stewart Bradley (elbow) is "out."
Kolb was asked again if he sees this as a "showcase" game for him, given that this offseason, there will be teams eager to trade for a QB who seems ready to start.
"I think every time you step on the field, every time you handle yourself in the media, everytime you're in a meeting room with your fellow teammates, it's a showcase," he said. "Things are always being said. Hopefully, it's a body of work, you know, but I plan to go out there and rock and roll as good as ever. If that's what it takes, that's what everybody's saying, then that's what it will be."
Kolb hasn't played substantially since Oct. 24 at Tennessee, but some of the guys he'll be out there with -- such as rookie offensive tackle Austin Howard -- really haven't played meaningful snaps all season.
"For me it's huge," Howard said. "For me, no added pressure. If I do get a chance, I'm just going to go out there and do what I know I can do."
Rookie tight end Clay Harbor has gotten some snaps lately -- he caught his first NFL touchdown pass against the Vikings -- but nothing like the reps he figures to see Sunday.
"If we get the extended time, it's going to be huge going into the playoffs," Harbor said. "Get a chance to really work on our confidence, going up against, me personally, two of the best pass-rushers and defensive ends, DeMarcus Ware and Anthony Spencer, in the league, that's a great test. Just the experience of it is going to be great. I really haven't played extended reps, since, if you count the preseason, I played a couple of (entire) quarters there, but I have to go back to college to really think of (playing) the whole game, not going out."

Asante Samuel was never present when reporters were around this week to ask if he got fined for his helmet-to-helmet hit in the Vikings game. In response to requests, the NFL hasn't released any fine information regarding Samuel.
This season has shown that the Eagles need a competent backup QB with the risk of Vick going down. Kolb is the right man for that job. Keep him! TripleOption
The Eagles vs. The Cowboys is a great game for Kolb to help his stock for the 2011 season (if there is one). With a deep class of QB's in the draft for next season it seems that Kolb will be traded for draft pick(s). I think the Eagles will probabley use the draft pick recieved from Kolb's trade to grab a qb like Jake Locker reggleston38
les,Kevin Kolb is a class act,he took a lot abuse from the conVick/Mcfraud diehard fans and did not flinch,he's the ultimate team player and will be back next season as the starter,,conVick is reverting back to his Atlanta days in his last 6 games he has 12 turnovers not to mention 6 dropped INTS,his 31 year old legs are not the future of this team,,the BIRDS need to make the right decision for the future 2011-12-13-14-15 of this team and that is with 26 year old KK4,mark my words conVick will take his NFL promo tour on the road next season,he will not get this team to the next level-book it...BTW i will not be able to attend the conVick MVP party, but my lapdog PPizza will be there be sure he is cakefaced-LOLOLOL...wolf. wolf 4
I agree with those who feel that Kolb is going to be a quality NFL QB. I only hope that it's with the Eagles.
Observation for those who refer to the franchise's history of winning(or not winning) NFL championships --
NFL history did not begin when the league began refering to it's championship as the "Super Bowl"....nor will NFL history end when the name is changed to the "Galactic Bowl"(or whatever) when there's expansion to Toronto and/or Mexico City. It is NFL championships that count, regardless of what it's called at the time.....and the Eagles have a few of them.
If we can hang onto Kevin Kolb, maybe there'll be another one soon. pseagles- To play such a violent game and to win a superbowl it's smart to have 2 qb's that can win like Unitas and Morrall, Montana and Young, Lamonica and Blanda or Kelly and Reich. Without Morrall, Miami wouldn't have went undefeated or won a superbowl. The Eagles have 2 winners and should try to keep both qb's at all cost. Fly Eagles Fly!
I really hope that the Minnesota debacle ends up being a blessing in disguise. Not necessarily because it gives our starters a chance to rest, but it just might prevent the birds front office from making a collosal mistake- letting Kevin Kolb walk. A guy who has won NFL player of the week honors 2 out of his 5 career starts! A guy whose only fault was getting a concussion after a sluggish pre-season. Sure the Michael Vick experiment has been a momunental success thus far, but in the last 4 or 5 weeks, he's looking more and more like the Atlanta Falcons version than the 2010 "new and improved" one we were all so excited about. Clearly the offensive line is a disgrace, and the play calling hasn't been much better. (When you have a pro-bowl running back who looks like Brian Westbrook Jr. with his pass-catching abilities, there's no reason why he was such a non-factor for much of the last two weeks) But don't kid yourself, Vick hasn't been superman either. Far from it. Take a look at the other playoff QB's. He's not even in the same class as Brady, P. Manning, Brees or Ryan. But can you really afford to give away a young QB who just might be, if given the kind of protection that those guys enjoy? The answer is NO.. Vick is going to ask for a fortune this off-season. The jury is still out on whether or not his former demons are even expelled. His playing style puts his body at risk like none other. In two years he will be another Donovan McNabb...No way can you let this happen..Just watch Kolb this Sunday and you will see. If he can stay upright that is!!! BARCHEDDY- i agree 100% the Birds will make a big mistake letting KK4 go,BIG RED should stick to his original plan after this season let the team grow with KK4,KK4 plays a ball control offense similar to Brees and Rodgers that keeps the defense off the field, this team will set itself back years if they let KK4 go,,the MVP tour is over and the season will be after the first round,,don't do it BIG RED don't do it!!
wolf 4 - "He's not even in the same class as Brady, P. Manning, Brees or Ryan. But can you really afford to give away a young QB who just might be, if given the kind of protection that those guys enjoy?" For real?? Are you serious? The legend of Matt Ryan... he is the 15th rated passer in the NFL!! How many playoff games has Ryan won in three years as a starter? ZERO! Michael Vick's 2nd year as a starter he beat Favre in GB in the playoffs! Why doesnt Vick deserve the same pass protection that these other QB's that you mentioned take for granted?? Is it because he can get avoid the pass rush more often than not?? Stupid reason... You give Vick the same O-line that Tom Brady has, and the Eagles are undefeated and the beating you saw in Washington this year would be commonplace! Not in the same class huh? You whiteboys kill me.... You use his passer rating against him in Atlanta, and now that he is in the top 5 in passer rating, you totally disregard it, and make these silly prejudicial statements! If you factor in his rushing stats, he blows all those other QBs out of the water and you know it! Unbelievable... And for the record, Vick in the 4th quarter looked like Superman in NY to me! Kevin Kolb is an average QB at best, period. I suggest you seek help for your mental illness, that illness being a racist bigot.
Minnesota Vicking - You have the mental illness bro...I'm just an Eagle fan with an opinion, not a racist bigot. WOW!
BARCHEDDY - Little known fact:
Since the Titans game, Andy Reid has called pass plays as much as 93% of the time (during the 2nd and 3rd quarters).
He's never gone below 77% (Titans), and averages about 86%. No other team passes the ball so frequently, especially behind a porous offensive line. Is there any wonder why Vick runs? The funny thing is, against Atlanta (our best game), Reid passed the ball only 46% of the time (in the 2nd and 3rd quarters).
Because we had a lead in the 4th quarter, he ran the ball 16 of 19 the last 19 plays. However, even if you include those plays, he still only passed 54% of the time.
Then, suddenly, with about 4 minutes remaining in the first half of the Titans game (and playing with a lead), Reid began to pass the ball 77% of the time. Of course, we not only lost the lead, but also the game.

extremeteam and obergruder both you guys are lame and sounds to me that you have some racial tension by the statements both you bone heads have made. no quarterback white black hispanic etc thats ever dawned an eagles jersey has not won the big one.. DJ_Bootleggah- Would like to see Kev improve his stock with a win over the Cowgals...DALLAS SUCKS...would be smart to keep Kev but I think Kev wants to be a starter "Anywhere". O-Line and injury riddled young "D"has been and will continue to be expected to overcome much. To face the best teams playing their best ball. The path to the Superbowl. Go Eagles. SEE U IN DALLAS.
Comment removed.- If it's the "All-American look" that some are looking for, they'd better find someone who resembles Geronimo or Cochise.
