Nick Foles will be the Eagles' starting quarterback going forward, Chip Kelly said on Monday.
This would seem obvious after Foles passed for 27 touchdowns in 13 regular season games, but it put to end any question of whether Kelly will stick with a quarterback that he did not draft or sign. Kelly said there will always be competition, and Foles understands that. But there will not be a quarterback competition in the spring.
"Obviously, you've got to have one guy," Kelly said. "Right now, Nick is that one guy, but I don't think Nick has ever been afraid of competition. He showed me that the first that we had that."
Kelly said Foles is a "great decision maker" who is "extremely accurate." Kelly said he did not have expectations of Foles, but that Foles demonstrated that he "deserved to be the starting quarterback,"
