Jenkins to get MRI on hamstring
Jeff McLane
BETHLEHEM, Pa. -- Cullen Jenkins left this afternoon's practice early with a hamstring injury, the Eagles said.
The defensive tackle is scheduled to undergo a magnetic resonance image this evening. Jenkins pulled up lame early in practice during a team drill. He then headed to the trainer's tent to get looked at. He came back out and joined the defensive line during individual drills, but eventually rode a cart into the locker room.
The Eagles have suffered several blows on the defensive line early in camp. Starting defensive ends Jason Babin and Trent Cole are already out with injuries. Babin has a calf strain and is expected to miss 2-3 weeks. Cole has swelling in his shoulder. There is no timetable for his return, although Eagles coach Andy Reid said it could be a day or perhaps a week.
The Eagles opened camp by announcing that defensive tackle Mike Patterson, who had brain surgery in January, would miss all of Lehigh.
Defensive line is one of the team's deepest positions, so the Eagles have been able to sustain the injuries. The absence of Babin, Cole and Patterson has allowed younger and a few unknown linemen opportunity to get additional repetitions.
Jenkins was playing a little defensive end with Babin out. The Eagles are now down to just four ends -- Brandon Graham, Darryl Tapp, Phillip Hunt and Vinny Curry -- after undrafted rookie Monte Taylor left practice today with a concussion.
Let those young guys run around in that heat and humidity. bigphillydad
Why should we worry about injuries when there's plenty of undrafted free agents with previous injuries out there. And not to worry, Reid is the best at finding hidden gems. Geno D- At this point, anyone with more then 4 years experience should be very limited in these practices. Unreal!
These types of injuries are often blessings in disguise. By "shelving" our veterans, they are well rested, and often primed for strong starts. The Eagles definitely a strong start, which is not a trait of Reid's teams We have a tough schedule and strong finish, alone, might not get it done. We probably need to be 6-2 at the break. Or at mid-season, I should say. Lonewolf11- I totally agree with you ??? 6-2 would mean that it is working. Not only does rest the starters it gives the rookies and 2nd teamers a chance to get up to speed. Cole is Cole and babin can chase QB's in his sleep.
phillyroni - Not only do the injuries,, rest statrers, etc.
