When training camp starts at Lehigh in late July, there will be a lot of talk about how things are different.

How things are different this season, now that there will be no No. 5 on the field for the first time in 11 years.

Former Eagles quarterback and current ESPN analyst Ron Jaworski said this week that based on what he's hearing, there's already a difference with the Birds.

"I've spoken to a number of players, a number of the coaches, and the one thing I sense that was probably missing over the last couple years is energy," Jaworski said during an interview with Mike Missanelli on 97.5 The Fanatic. "There's almost that little-kid enthusiasm right now within the organization because of the changes they've made.

"When you get those young, enthusiastic players int he locker room, it's amazing how they raise the spirit, and even of Andy Reid and the coaching staff. And the feeling down at the Novacare Center is real positive now. They know they've got a young team. They know they're going to make mistakes, but as they grow together, this has the chance to be a real good football team down the road. I think that's the part that's exciting."

Some current players have made similar comments this offseason. And I expect more to during training camp. Of course, none of this will matter until the team starts playing real games. If they lose, no one will care what the atmosphere was like at camps in the spring and summer.

LIKELIHOOD OF A VICK TRADE

Michael Vick made Len Pasquarelli's Trade Odds column on ESPN.com. Pasquarelli names 10 veterans and the likelihood of each being traded. He's got Vick at a 2 on a scale from 1-10:

He hasn't been a full-time starter since 2006 and clearly has lost some of his trademark quickness. He was limited to 13 pass attempts for 86 yards last season. He looks to be pigeonholed as a Wildcat quarterback, but wants to be a starter again. The Eagles paid him a $1.5 million bonus in the spring, and he has just one year left on his contract.

I'll admit that when I heard Andy Reid almost go out of his way to speak glowingly about Vick last week, I wondered if some of it was an act, or if he really felt that way. The market for Vick never really surfaced this offseason. If the Eagles were to get rid of him now, they would need to add a veteran backup QB. I don't think going into the season with rookie Mike Kafka in that role is an option.

SPEAKING OF VICK...

Clark Judge of CBSSports.com has a list of the league's top five backup quarterback options, and Vick makes the cut:

I concede that Vick is more of a playmaker than a bona fide quarterback, but he's capable of breaking open a game and breaking down an opponent with a single run, play or pass. Yes, he's wildly unpredictable, and normally that's not good. But in Vick's case, it can make him difficult to defend.

The other QBs on the list are Miami's Chad Pennington, Tennessee's Kerry Collins, Dallas' Jon Kitna and Arizona's Derek Anderson.

I don't think going into the season with Vick as the #2 is an option, either, but yet... here we are.

Very young team. You do get the feeling there's more energy. But very young plus key injuries means fewer wins this year. And as I look at the roster, I don't see a Super Bowl two or three years down the road. Lots of good players, a potentially good, exciting team, but not a champion.

If he stays, Vick will start far more than most are counting on. Kolb is going to be hurt more than McNabb. Can you hear the sound of Jeff Garcia creeping silently through the woods toward camp?

Tacklin Joe...the birds will make moves, we have no idea what this team is going to look like 2 or 3 years from now. This offense has a chance to be superbowl caliber...if they sure up the D over the next couple years we might very well win a championship finally

It's cool to hear about all this new found energy. Things like that often get overlooked when determining a team's potential. The Phillies and Flyers have shown what enthusiasm and cohesiveness can do for a team, in that it brings out the best in the players and coaches alike...I think any Super Bowl aspirations in the future lies squarely on the shoulders of Kevin Kolb. If he is the real deal, then the sky's the limit with this offense, and believe Reid will eventually fill in the missing pieces on D in the coming years...It's gonna be fun to watch.

I'm so glad that McNabb won't be around to take the blame for all the Reid foolishness. We let Dawk leave town and for TWO years don't replace him. Marlin Jackson please. Rolle would have been a much better fit. Look it's not my money, but it would be nice to go for a superbowl instead of getting guys coming off injury because they are cheaper. Who is going to play the other corner? Sorry guys but this is not a playoff team.

Yeah, I'm VERY curious about the Kolb kid, I keep my fingers crossed he doesn't get blown up every other pass attempt because of the (head-scratchingly poor) O-Line. That unit will be the determining factor of us either being a playoff team.......or a freaking doormat. Get that group FUNCTIONING Andy!

I like #5 but he was always a bad fit in a real WCO. The coaches bastardized things to fit his big arm and extend the play and make something happen ability. I'm interested to see how we do with a QB who can run a real WCO with slants, crossing patterns, quick outs and lots of throws to the RBs not just check downs. All the short and intermediate stuff we cut back on because of Donovan's chronic inability to put those balls in the right spot to make some YAC. Running a much purer WCO with the receiving talent we have YAC will be our meal ticket.

Eagles and #5 have a fresh start. Both should benefit. Reid needs to run the ball more to help Kolb confuse rival defenses. Reid's WCO passes much more than Seifert's or Walsh's versions. RUN THE BALL ANDY.

Not looking for more than 5-11. I hope I am wrong but I just don't see it yet. Perhaps after training camp I will change my view but I gotta call'em as I see'em.

McNabb wasn't a real WCO player which is why we had so many bad years here with the Eagles. Now with a Real All-American we can finally have some winning seasons and contend for multiple championships. Kolb brings new energy to the building and his leadership is unquestioned. McNabb's shadow was long and broad while Kolb doesn't cast a shadow instead he cast undeniable leadership with a high "it" factor.
