With DeSean Jackson out, who is the Eagles’ go-to receiver?
Jason Avant
Reggie Brown
Jeremy Maclin

Wide receiver DeSean Jackson will “continue to test him and go through the process,” coach Andy Reid said Monday, a day after Jackson suffered a concussion in the third quarter against Washington.

Reid described Jackson as "OK. He doesn't feel bad today."

“We’ll just see how he does over the next few days,” Reid said, adding that the Eagles will do everything that the league wants them to do in terms of concussion treatment or diagnosis.

Also, running back Brian Westbrook will be re-examined this week in Pittsburgh, Reid said. He said he trainer Rick Burkholder was arranging the appointment. The concussion specialists in Pittsburgh had wanted to see Westbrook 2-3 weeks after their previous exam. The doctors said they expected him to make a “full recovery.”

“I know a lot is being said about concussions,” Reid said. “We are as conscious as they come with concussions. We are going to do everything within our power to get [Jackson] the proper treatment and diagnosis. To compare to Brian’s, are we going to be more cautious? No. We’re always cautious. We’re going to do what we do.”

Reid said the team will not do anything to hinder Jackson’s future.

Jackson left Sunday's game in the third quarter with what the team initially called head and neck injuries. Jackson was hit by Redskins linebacker London Fletcher as Jackson was coming across the field.

“That hit was more of the shoulder,” Reid said. “It really wasn’t on the head."

Wide receiver Kevin Curtis remains out, but Reid said the Eagles are not considering placing him on injured reserve at this point, even with Jackson possibly being sidelined.

As for Westbrook, Reid said, “I’m not sure exactly what step the doctor will take with him. I don’t know that. We’ll see what phase the doctor feels he’s at and the doctor will determine what he will do. If that’s going back on the field, we’ll do that. If that’s more conditioning work in the weight room with Rick, we’ll do that.”

Westbrook had a mild headache last week after a workout.

The Eagles have a lengthy list of other injuries: Brodrick Bunkley has an ankle sprain, Brent Celek has a thumb sprain, Todd Herrmans has a shoulder sprain, Tracy White has a chest contusion, Will Witherspoon has a foot sprain, Jason Peters is recovering from his sprained ankle but played.

Of Celek, Reid said the injury is “something he can function with” and that he did not think Celek would need surgery.

Linebacker Akeem Jordan missed his second consecutive game with a hyperextended knee. Jordan "is making progress, there is a chance to possibly get back this week. We’ll see how that works out."

Any time one of these guys want to sit in my cube and get my salary, let me know. I would take their salary and play with a broken back if I had too. Never seen a team with more walking wounded. A chest contusion...wow, that's an injury? I have a nasty hang nail..if I was an eagle I could sit for two weeks with that. Love the team, hate the toughness.

Folks, Jackson is fine. McCoy said Jackson was joking in the locker room after the game. He didn't really get hit in the head. He just took a big shot. I'm relieved that Celek's injury isn't serious. I was more worried about that. The Falcons are likely to be without their starting QB and RB. Matt Ryan was on the sidelines in a boot. Turner aggravated a previous ankle injury and couldn't finish the game.

It doesn't say Tracy White won't be able to play next week with the contusion. And you don't know when he got it. He played throughout the game and had two big tackles. Not really sure why you are questioning anyone's toughness on the team. Sheldon has been playing with a partial tear in his hamstring- that sounds like toughness to me. People complain when teams hide injuries from the public and now when coaches are open with who is hurt you want to complain that they aren't "real" injuries. Besides Celek I would be surprised if anyone in that "other injuries" list would not be playing this Sunday.

jeff.......if you has a clue.....you would be dangerous....the best atheletes in the world beat each other up and take trememdous shots each week.....and most of us have no conception of the speed and mass of the hits they receive......as a hater you are number one....as a user of your brain.......oh, do you have one....what an ignorant post

nuggett, I concur with you 100%. It's real easy to sit in "your cube" and analyze/judge these guys. Jeff is totally clueless. That's perhaps why he thinks he could play football with a broken back. Good luck with that you moron......

Hey hangnail, a contusion is just a deep bruise. It doesn't say he won't be playing. Desean was hit in the head by a flying linebacker. You sit in a cubicle. There is a reason why you make what you make....

I think the whole area of concussion will have very significant effects on the NFL and NHL as well. Some injured athlete (or his estate or caretaker) will bring a damage claim against the league and the teams involved, and there will be a huge verdict (or perhaps settlement) and then the floodgates will open. The leagues have behaved badly in this area, using docs who were on league/team payroll to send players back out to be multiply concussed. Remember Andre Waters? There are probably hundreds of injured players out there, many of whom have suffered irreparable brain damage. The leagues will argue statute of limitations or waiver or something, but they won't be able to avoid this forever. The plaintiff lawyers are already thinking about this, no doubt (huge dollar implications-- bet the leagues' insurers are squirming as well): http://www.newyorkinjuries.com/blog/?p=2021 I'm not sure whether football is playable without injuries of this sort; would require major changes to rules/equipment to avoid concussions in pro football and would convert it to something like flag football.

Hey Jeff7195, Granted, some of these guys make a fortune, but their contracts are interesting when it comes to injury, etc. They get paid by the game. If they suit up and are at the game and available, they get paid on Monday morning for the game. OK, I know, some of these guys get paid more per game than the president makes in a year, but, it means that if they are injured and can't play, they probably don't get paid. Depends on the contract, but most guys don't get paid if they can't suit up on Sunday. If I'm not mistaken, DeSean Jackson is still working on his rookie contract. I wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't get paid unless he's on the roster for Sunday.

Praying for Deshawn to be OK,,, he is our best weapon now that Westbrook has hit NFL old age. Macklin is coming along and we should be a good offense down the line,, don't know if that translate to deep playoff run THIS YEAR though. We will see

A guy who sits in a cube is questioning a pro athlete's toughness?? Thats rich. I bet he hasn't seen his waist in 10 yrs. and I'll bet if the remote is on the other chair, he would sit thru a commercial rather than go retrieve it.

I don't care what anyone says that hit on Desean and another one I believe on McCoy were helmet to helmet shots by 59. The people down here are all jazzed up by that last no call on Parker for throwing Campbell down but he got him when he was following thru and thought he still had the ball (I'm reading minds here but that's what it looked like to me because he had his head down). If they're so worried about concussions they need to get after these guys that hit with their helmets.
