Friends, family attend Garrett Reid's funeral

BROOMALL, Pa. -- Mourners packed the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints this morning for the funeral of Garrett Reid, son of Eagles head coach Andy Reid. The funeral, originally scheduled to begin at 10 a.m., had to be delayed by almost an hour to allow the large number of people attending to file into the church.

Garrett Reid, 29, was found dead in his dorm room at Lehigh University on Sunday morning.

Brian Westbrook, the former Eagles running back, was one of the first to leave the service.

He smiled as he walked by a group of six gathered across the street on his way back his car.

"I wanted to come out here and show my support for coach Reid and his whole family and wish him the best," Westbrook said.

Westbrook was one of a number of current and former NFL coaches and players in attendance. Among those spotted in line: NFL commissioner Roger Goodell, Eagles quarterback Michael Vick, Patriots coach Bill Belichick, Browns president Mike Holmgren, Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie, former Eagles defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo, former Eagles quarterback Ron Jaworski and former Eagles linebacker Jeremiah Trotter.

Two police officers directing traffic estimated that about 500-600 people were attending the funeral. Later estimates from the church placed the number at 900.

As members of the extended Reid family and friends waited to pay their respects, the line of mourners ran about 30 yards from the entrance and wrapped around the back of the church. Police directed traffic to the nearby Paxon Hollow Middle School.

Holmgren, who coached Andy Reid in college and later hired him as an assistant in Green Bay, entered the church at about 9:25 a.m. Goodell entered at 9:35.

Lurie pulled into the church at 9:40. He stood under a tent outside the entrance and shook hands with several people before entering.
