Foles likely to start Friday

Should Nick Foles be the Eagles backup QB when the season starts?
Yes. He has shown he has the talent.
No. He needs more experience, and Mike Kafka and Trent Edwards have that.

With Michael Vick more than likely sidelined for Friday's preseason game at Cleveland, rookie Nick Foles will start at quarterback, Eagles coach Andy Reid said Wednesday.

Vick has bruised ribs after he was hit by Patriots linebacker Jermaine Cunningham on Monday night at New England. While Vick is likely to sit the remaining two preseason games, Reid said that his starting quarterback will be ready by the season opener on Sept. 9 at the Browns.

An MRI and a CT scan of Vick's ribs area did not reveal a bone fracture or cartilage damage, the team said Tuesday.

Foles jumped in for Vick and performed well in his stead Monday night. The rookie appears to have the inside edge on the backup quarterback spot ahead of the injured Mike Kafka and veteran Trent Edwards.

Kafka, who entered camp as the No. 2 quarterback, has a fractured left hand and could be back for the preseason finale against the New York Jets on Aug. 30, Reid said. His spot on the roster could be in jeopardy.

Foles will work with the Eagles' first team offense for a quarter and could play as much as a half, Reid said. Edwards will play the rest of the game.

-- Reid said that King Dunlap will work with the first team offense at left tackle during today's practice. Dunlap and Demetress Bell are competing for the spot, but Dunlap has the clear edge at this point.

-- Cornerback Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, who left the Patriots game with a shoulder injury, is OK and will practice today.

-- Reid said that he was fine with defensive tackle Cullen Jenkins' reaction when the two got into a heated argument on the sideline during Monday night's game. "I like that fire," Reid said.

-- Reid said that rookie Brandon Boykin has narrowed the gap between he and Joselio Hanson for the starting nickel cornerback spot. Hanson has started there all of training camp and the preseason, but Boykin took some snaps with the first team defense against the Patriots.

-- Defensive end Jason Babin (calf), wide receiver Riley Cooper (collarbone), linebacker Casey Matthews (ankle), safety Tom Nelson (ankle), Kafka and Vick won't practice today.

Ankle injury? Sounds more like Fabio is suffering from a severe case of loser's limp.

Vick Vick Vick = "3 and out 3 and out and out" Did anyone notice how much more smoothly the offense ran with Foles? None of the usual chaos that accompanies Vick's scrambling. He is no different than he was at Atlanta. He should have been a RB.

With an average passer rating in triple digits over 2 games. With the TDs, yards, vision, accuracy to go along with it... Vick certainly, has someone barking up the tree (pun intended). Vicks can't last 2 minutes in todays NFL game in its designed to protect him. How dumb is this guy? If Vick can't stay on the field in preseason send him to the dog house or big house for that matter. The guy is out there for himself not the team. Foles looks better and thats the bottomline.

Haters are so excited at this point you can see them frothing at the mouth.....Hopefully Foles is the real deal and all this time playing will be great to see him learn his craft....but unless Michael is back, we are doomed....but then again with this o-line, this d-line, this group of safeties that cannot tackle and linebackers with no size or skill...it will be hard to blame it on Michae..

oh, please who prepares for a 3rd round rookie quarterback in pre-Season?

Stop over dramatizing this kid's play. It's good the kid has made a nice showing against vanilla defenses and against players you will never see in a regular season NFL contest.

However, some of you are forgetting Vick, who admitted he never studied defenses before coming to Philly, came out of College, off the street and lead his team; the Falcons to a place in the NFC Championship Game, with little to no preparation. Anyone understand how remarkable what Vick accomplished in Atlanta is for any athlete because there aren't many if any others who had accomplished such feats.

Let's not tell our hand regarding how much we know about football and preparing for the game. You just don't get people in off of the street who revolutionize defenses in the NFL as Vick did and still commands.

Give Foles a chance to grow into the NFL, one of the major problems he has is that with the same schemes and philosophy on the Offensive Line, Foles could be ruined if he's exposed to the pressure and hits that sidelined, not only Vick, but Kafka, Kolb and McNabb each over the last 4 years behind the Eagles line found themselves disable for any measure of time during the season.

Kafka and Kolb werent injured from protection issues. Then again non of the QBs you listed were 6-6 250lbs either.

Coles is not Kolb. Kolb sucked and he always sucked. The only reason why Kolb was pumped in fans ears was because of racism and the reluctance because of Micheal Vick and the dog fighting. But Coles on the other hand looks like the real thing. I have no problem honoring a guy with talent. I had a problem with the media hyping a scared to death punk that seems to run from his own shadow. But Jeff Mclane loves him. Glad we have Coles. I'll endorse him over the clown in arizona

So now there is a Coles on the roster. What happened to Foles? Seriously, we may have found a serious backup for Vick ( aka Nick) Clearly he's going to get playing time. What about trading for T Jack?

Changing gears... Hats off to Brandon Graham who is gradually displaying his Michigan Big Blue D-skills coming off a year of injury rehab. 'B' had the 2nd 2012 Pre-Season sack, AND made several tackles...Nice to hear announcers calling his name/number again!
