Woody Peoples, a starting guard for the 1980 Eagles in the Super Bowl, died Tuesday evening in his hometown of Birmingham, Ala, the Eagles announced. He was 67 years old.
A member of the Eagles 1980 NFC championship team, Peoples played in 168 career games in the NFL with the Eagles and San Francisco 49ers from 1968-80.
He spent three seasons and in 47 games for Philadelphia from 1978 to '80. He earned Pro Bowl honors with the 49ers twice (following the 1972 and ’73 seasons).
Peoples was originally signed by the 49ers as a free agent from Grambling State, where he earned his degree in business administration and played under legendary coach Eddie Robinson. He played one season of semi-pro football with the Richmond Rebels of the Continental League in 1965 and spent two years in the Army before joining the 49ers in 1968.
Peoples signed with the Eagles as a free agent during the 1978 preseason and won the starting right guard job.
Vermeil called Peoples "jugbutt," a term of endearment. doconnor4431

I have a bunch of the old football cards from that team and one of em is peoples, I remember him playing as well just because of his name but I was 10 when my dad was jumping up n down on the couch screaming that Herm Edwards went for the INT in that game and missed and it allowed a TD, he still thinks thats the play that led to the momentum swing and loss. Were still waiting for that win, lets go birds peteike
Vermeil said when he got Peoples he thought that made the OL line tops in the conference. Could use a Woody Peoples today. RIP. JACK V

1980 O-Line, Left to Right, I think...: Walters-Perot-Morriss-Peoples-Seismore; Keith Krepfle at TE (John Spagnola the backup); Harold Carcmichael and Charlie Smith at WR (Rodney Parker the 3rd WR) Wilbert Montgomery and Leroy Harris in the backfield, and Jaws. Joe Pisarcik the backup QB; Billy Campfield and Louie Giammona the backup RBs; Giamonna started for Wilbert for four games when he was injured; Eagles won all four games. Dennis Harrison, Carl Hairston were the DEs; Charlie Johnson the NG; Kenny Clarke and Claude Humphrey on passing downs; LBs: Bunning, Bergey, LeMaster, Robinson; Herman Edwards and Roynell Young on the corners, Randy Logan and Brenard Wilson at SS and FS. John Sciarra the nickel back... Tony Franklin was the PK (wow, did he have a horrible year), and Max Runager was the P. Memories... That was a good team. andrewfrombrooklyn- andrew thanks for the memories..It goes to show that there are A FEW Eagle fans left. I was a teen back then but I remember most of those guys pretty well. I recall Franklin being pretty solid, but not awesome Akers. I don't remember the year but he made maybe a 60 yarder against the Cowboys on a Monday night. I loved that bare footed freak. I can't count the bruises from trying to be like Tony. You helped remind me how I am lucky to be an Eagle fan! pking222
