Eagles sign DE Derrick Burgess
Jeff McLane
The Eagles signed defensive end Derrick Burgess to a two-year contract on Wednesday, the team confirmed.
The one-time Eagle will replace rookie end Brandon Graham, who will be placed on injured reserve after tearing the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee on Sunday.
The 32-year-old Burgess last played for the Patriots and was cut before the season. He was drafted by the Eagles in the third round of the 2001 draft and recorded six sacks as a rookie. He broke his leg in the first game of the 2002 season, however, and missed all of 2003 with a torn ACL.
He came back in 2004 and was great in the postseason, sacking current Eagles quarterback Michael Vick twice in the NFC championship and notching the only sack for the Eagles in Super Bowl XXXIX.
Burgess left for Oakland via free agency in 2005 and totaled 27 sacks over the next two seasons for the Raiders. He made the Pro Bowl in each season, but his production slipped the following two years. He spent 2009 in New England and was cut on Sept. 4 of this year.
The 6-foot-2, 255-pound Burgess will be expected to come in and help an Eagles pass rush that lost Graham for the season and has struggled of late. Aside from starting defensive ends Trent Cole and Juqua Parker, the Eagles also have reserves Darryl Tapp and rookie Daniel Te'o-Nesheim.

I guess our 2010 3rd-round DE pick Daniel Teo-Nesheim is so bad we had to go out and sign our unemployed 2001 3rd-round pick. RockStar

He's the only player we've regretted losing during the Reid era but if you look at how much money the Raiders gave him it would've hard to justify signing him. I doubt he has much left. EaglesFlyersPhilsSixers
