Philadelphia Eagles sign former Oregon Ducks quarterback Dennis Dixon

The Eagles have agreed to terms on a two-year contract with quarterback Dennis Dixon, who played at Oregon while Chip Kelly was the offensive coordinator.

Dixon's 2007 senior campaign under Kelly was shortened by injury (ACL). He was a candidate for the Heisman Trophy, and helped his Ducks team earn the No. 2 ranking before tearing his ACL in the 10th game of the season.

"We are excited to bring in Dennis Dixon to compete at the quarterback position," said Eagles general manager Howie Roseman in a team release. "Dennis is a veteran in this league that has been a part of two Super Bowl-winning teams in his career. He's also very familiar with Chip Kelly and how he operates."

Dixon spent 2012 on the Baltimore Ravens practice squad and has made three career starts in the NFL, going 2-1 in three games with the Steelers in 2009-2010. While in the NFL, he has completed 59.3 percent of his passes for 402 yards, one touchdown, two interceptions and a quarterback rating of 71.4.

Dixon will comepete for the starting job with Michael Vick, Nick Foles and Trent Edwards.

Dixon (6-3, 209) spent the 2012 season as a member of the Baltimore Ravens practice squad. Originally a fifth-round draft choice of the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2008, Dixon has played in four career games (three starts), throwing for 402 yards and one touchdown on 35-49 passing, while rushing 10 times for 56 yards and a score. He has been a part of two Super Bowl winning teams (Ravens in 2012, Steelers in 2008).

A standout performer in college, Dixon accumulated 6,337 total yards and 38 passing touchdowns in his career at Oregon. During his senior season in 2007, with Chip Kelly as his offensive coordinator, Dixon threw for 2,136 yards and set a school record for a quarterback with 1,208 rushing yards. He led his team to an 8-1 record as a starter that season and earned honorable mention All-America honors.

Dixon, 28, is a native of San Leandro, CA. An accomplished baseball player growing up, he appeared in 28 games in the Braves' minor league system as an outfielder in 2007.
