Revisiting the Brown/Gocong trade
With the news that the Eagles have released LB/DE Alex Hall, let's revisit the trade that sent Sheldon Brown and Chris Gocong to the Browns in exchange for Hall and two draft picks.
The Eagles announced this morning that they released linebacker/defensive end Alex Hall to sign second-round pick Nate Allen.
Hall was part of the Sheldon Brown/Chris Gocong trade back in April. The Eagles sent Brown and Gocong to the Browns for Hall, a fourth-round pick and a fifth-round pick.
Hall was a seventh-round pick by the Browns in 2008. During OTAs, it seemed unclear what his role with the Eagles would be. And now we know.
Looking back at the trade, the Eagles selected cornerback Trevard Lindley with the fourth-round pick. They ended up trading the fifth-round pick in the three-team deal that brought linebacker Ernie Sims here from Detroit.
So basically the Eagles gave up Brown and Gocong for Lindley and Sims.
Gocong didn't have a role here, but if you're a frequent MTC reader, you know I still question the decision to ship Brown away. The key here is Lindley. If the cornerback from Kentucky proves to be a valuable, young player in the next couple years, who can play a role on defense, the Brown/Gocong trade will likely be viewed as a good one for the Eagles down the road.

SI.com's Don Banks is out with his power rankings, and he's got the Eagles 11th:
Some of the same folks who for years said Andy Reid had to cut ties with Donovan McNabb are now saying the Eagles are headed for trouble with Kevin Kolb at quarterback. I don't see the sky falling in Philly just yet. Give the kid a chance to show us what he's learned the past three years. Aaron Rodgers, Matt Cassel, Tony Romo and Matt Moore performed pretty well after doing the watching and waiting thing.
The only NFC East team he's got ahead of the Eagles are the Cowboys at No. 8. In the NFC, Banks has the Saints (No. 2), Packers (No. 5), Vikings (No. 7) and Falcons (No. 9) ahead of the Eagles also. He's got the Giants 19th and the Redskins 22nd.
EAGLES TICKETS
Fansnap has released preseason rankings that measure the average price of tickets on the secondary market for all 32 NFL teams.
The Eagles come in at No. 6. Their average ticket is a whopping $374 on the secondary market. The Giants are first at $468. The Saints, Steelers, Jets and Bears also rank ahead of the Eagles.
The Cowboys are seventh at $327. And the Redskins are ninth at $305.
PRACTICE TODAY
